CSI Miami: Season 6 Ends on High Note!
Our apologies to all Penguin fans out there. We just needed to do it. It'll be gone when the Stanley Cup Finals are over.
It's been called to our attention that another blogger posting ratings is in error. The ratings for last week, posted as being "by viewers" by the other blogger are in fact the ratings "by households". Is there a difference? Yes, though not much in the final analysis.
The first five rated shows remained the same, though with different figures. #6 was CSI Miami, #7 NCIS, #11 CSI NY. Taken in context, CSI Miami was the highest rated procedural last week, with 10.4/17, behind only Idol, DWTS, and DH. Down from previous years? Of course, as are all the scripted dramas. The realities have taken a huge chunk of the ratings, as has been the case each of the past several years. This year was especially telling, with the extended WGA strike affecting most of the scripted shows, allowing the realities to push even further ahead.
The Season to Date ratings provide even more of a wake-up call regarding the future of television in general and the procedurals specifically. 2007-2008 Season to Date Ratings through 5/25/2008 (the back-end numbers represent Rating/Share): 01. American Idol/Tuesday, FOX, 16.0/24; 02. American Idol/Wed., FOX, 1.58/24; 03. DWTS/Monday, ABC, 14.0/20; 04. DWTS/Tuesday, ABC, 12.7/19; 05. DWTS/Monday, ABC, 12.6/19; 06. DWTS/Results, ABC, 11.7/18; 07. Desperate Hswvs, ABC, 11.0/17; 08. Grey's Anatomy, ABC, 10.5/16; 09. House, FOX, 10.5/15; 10. CSI, CBS, 10.4/16; 11. NBC Sunday Ngt Ftball, NBC, 10.0/16; 12. CSI Miami, CBS, 9.1/15; 13. NCIS, CBS, 9.1/14; 14. Survivor: China, CBS, 9.0/14; 15. Moment of Truth, FOX, 8.8/14; 16. House (Monday), FOX, 8.7/13; 16. Without A Trace, CBS, 8.7/14; 18. Two & 1/2 Men, CBS, 8.5/12; 19. 60 Minutes, CBS, 8.3/14; 20. Criminal Minds, CBS, 8.1/12. Note the significant discrepancy between weekly ratings and the final season ratings. The drop in all the Top 20 scripted shows was strike-driven. CSI NY, for example, didn't make the final Top 20. We use the term "final" to denote the end of the regular season, throwing these shows all into rerun mode.
We're hearing that AFTRA (American Federation of Television & Radio Artists) settled with AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers), but have read no further details. As we've said before, strictly from a viewer's view, don't be surprised if SAG (Screen Actors Guild) can't seal a deal before the end of June, when their contract expires. There are huge ramifications at stake within these negotiations. We'll be watching.

High note? Position 7 ?Ovr all ratings position 12? Laughable. Always depends which ox you gore, right? Lame ratings for a lame episode for a lame show.

Correct again, Dojo. The handwriting's on the wall for our current tv fare. Our viewing habits are being disturbed; we don't like that, but we adjust.

Thoroughly interesting. That's not a comment you hear about ratings, is it? But it does show where these shows stand after a skewed season. Thanks. Ouch, I'm a Penguin fan, but still like your blog.

Interesting to note, of the top 20, 10 of those are either reality shows, news or sports. The scripted shows that remain--show that people are still watching scripted shows. If a show, was truly bad and people were not interested etc. that show would not listed near the top. Due to the problems presented this year, (strike, less episodes) the list has changed. I hope SAG does resolve their issues--I don't think Los Angeles will survive another strike in the entertainment field.

Position 12 near the top? Amusing. CSI Miami experiences a down-trend and rightfully so.

PatMc, you're so right. The scripted shows always place well and would have done better over the season were it not for the strike. I fear there won't be a resolution by the end of June. LA's economy, already down, will take a nosedive in the aftermath of another strike. However, I understand the stakes in these negotiations. Glad to be watching from the sidelines and not as a player in this.

As fans of some of the shows canceled (Moonlight, Women's Murder Club, Shark) would proclaim--anywhere in the top 20 would be an excellent place to be. That way, their shows would have remained safe from being canceled. How strange, that only one voice decries this position as being the beginning of the end of a show. But then again, one should consider the source.

That's true enough, especially the rookies who had little chance to build an audience. While I personally object to the "ignore" option, my family and associates prefer I maintain a certain degree of lucidity. That could be in question if I continue to subject myself to lunacy. I've missed nothing in these weeks with one on "ignore". I'm still loving you, David Flores!

Yes, that ignore button is nice, isn't it? Thanks to David F. for suggesing it.
I'm proud of how CSI Miami did in the ratings. In the top 20, and there is the "TOP 20" for a reason, despite what other smaller minds might think, is something to be proud of.
Thank you for all your hard work Dojo! KRoseLynn
