CSI Miami: CBS Dramas Hang Tight!

We know we promised no rating charts this week and we will remain firm. There are a few points to be made, however, regarding the 2007-2008 Season ratings.

While the realities, DWTS and Idol particularly, took the top five spots and scored 6 out of the Top 10, CBS took 8 out of the Top 20, due largely to their procedural dramas. While we understand they want a bigger piece of the audience pie, we hope they don't forego the procedurals in favor of the ever mushrooming realities. To even call these shows "reality shows" when all recently seem staged and scripted is a travesty.

CSI and CSI Miami, at #8 and #12, followed by NCIS, tied at #13 with Survivor, Without A Trace, tied at #15 with Moment of Truth, then 60 Minutes, 2 1/2 Men and Criminal Minds rounding out the Top 20. Missing was CSI NY, which failed to place.

We're curious to see if there are any noticable changes when the final numbers are in for the season. We already know CSI Miami pulled in over 16 million viewers for its finale. What will CSI NY pull after theirs airs tonight? Will those figures impact the totals?

Due to this seasons more than poor performance we predict it won't get highter than 7 or 8 which would be in accordance with the weak ratings season 6 has been receiving. LOL

While viewing the season's end ratings will be of some interest. The thing to remember about this particular season is that due to the writer's strike and the shortened season because of that the numbers will be very different from seasons past. That and cable television has been changing the ratings due to their growing popularity. The shortened season will not allow a true interpretation/comparison to past seasons due to an imbalance of episodes. Reality shows (unfortunately) did not have repeats, while the procedural dramas and comedies were stuck in striking writer's limbo.

I agree the reality shows are a travesty. Idol and DWTS are a step above and do provide family entertainment, which accounts for their high ratings. The others are awful. The dramas are more escapism without the soap opera taint. I love most of them, including Boston Legal and Shark (Shark cancelled, BL will do only 13 episodes next season). Damn!

No question cable, dvd and online viewers change the entire ratings landscape. That's why these ratings are no longer the end all they once were. Even taking the ratings from all the available sources don't complete the picture.
