April 30, 2007: I Fell into a Burning Ring of Fire

Let’s get the simple stuff out of the way first: Everyone was guilty of something. Claire dumped the gasoline to frame Anthony (her ex-boyfriend), who then sent Ron Cramer after her anyway, and Ron accidentally created the catalyst for the fire to start. Oh, and Ryan got fired for owing money to Michael Lipton. (Sidenote: I have a good family friend named Michael Lipton. Remember that episode of The Simpsons where a TV character has the same name as Homer? That’s how exciting this was for me.) However, before we get into Ryan’s misdeeds, I find it necessary to point out that not only is there no way this could have taken place in under 24 hours (how could the house have cooled enough to let in people without fire suits?), police departments have special arson units who deal with these kinds of cases. The CSIs would not be involved to the degree that they were.

For a show that isn’t really into thematic cohesion, I was pleasantly surprised to find one major symbolic thread running through this episode. Going along with the arson, Calleigh and Eric are stoking the embers of L-O-V-E, and Ryan got burned by his past and was subsequently fired. So it’s a little unsubtle; at least it was there.

Mr. Wolfe. Of all the things you’ve done, this is really what gets you fired? It seems that, really, he was correct in saying that he did the only responsible thing, which was to recuse himself from interrogating Michael Lipton. He gave information to “the mole” last year and he screwed up numerous investigations this year trying to be a hot shot for the cameras, and they fire him for having an unsavory personal life? The scene where Horatio questioned him was priceless, though, for the simple reason that Jonathan Togo seems to be picking up acting cues from David Caruso. It was like a mirror image of uncomfortable poses and stilted lines. Heaven, really, for a CSI: Miami fan.

Lest we forget, Yelina is suddenly back. The way they’ve set up this plotline, it certainly seems that she’ll be a recurring character, but with this show, who knows? Why does she have to be a P.I.? With her history, one would think she’d want to stay as far away from anything resembling police work as possible. Of course, then she wouldn’t have the chance to run into her brother-in-law.

This season is definitely going out on a much stronger note than it started on, and (dare I say?) it’s fun again. Next week looks to be Ryan’s Revenge, so be sure not to miss it!

Good:
1) Yelina is back. The look on HoCaines face when she stepped out behind the car was priceless. There was more emotion in that one off-guard moment than HoCaine had for Aerosol in ALL the moments they had together.

2) HoCaineJr got fired.(sort of)Why? Because he lied to HOCaine and his gambling habit.
WHO doesn't lie to his boss once in a while?
And what about HoCaine who befriends hookers and widows and children...AND lies for them if necessary.
Wouldn't that be grounds for firing HoCaine too???

BAD
1) I didn't like HoCaine's comment that PI work isn't for women - especially not for Yelina.
And why, may I ask?
Simple. Because HoCaine NEEDS women who are helpless and in need of protection.
Once a woman can stand her own she's not interesting for him anymore 8or so it seems).

2)Was it just me or did HoCaine really smile after firing HoCaine Jr?
Or was it just the afterglow of seeing Yelina again?

I thought last week Delko was on desk duty till he had a competency hearing. Must have been a quick one. Here he is this week handling crucial evidence again. He seems pretty much back to normal. I was expecting him to kiss Calleigh boo boo when he took the glass out of her finger. I can really do without the Calleigh/Delko LOVE thing. YUCK.
When Ryan got fired all I could do was say " About Frickin Time!!!!!!!". His comment about What am I suppose to do now? Can I make a recomendation? Go home and play some cards loser. Too bad he wont be gone for long.
Poor Frank and his new car. I had a tree fall on mine one hour after I got it. It sucks man. I feel your pain.
Horatio please get back in the lab and do your job. Speeding around in your Hummer is not CSI work. Does he not believe in back up? Talk about Lone Ranger syndrome.
I take it Miami fire Dept. doesn't use water to put fires out. There was no pooled water or soot sludge anywhere in that house. Anyone who has ever been in a fire damaged house knows that water does almost if not more damage than the fire.
I'm getting to the point that I zone out when Natalia comes on. I take it was her role to put the possible budding glow of love into the mind of the brain damaged Delko.
The case was interesting. There sure were a lot of twist and turns. Just about everyone was guilty of something in this epi. I'm not a big Rebecca Gayheart fan but I thought she did a good job as the grieving fiance/killer. She truly looked devastated to me.
Next week looks like it may be good. Ryan as a TV consultant. I knew the firing was too good to be true. Cant wait to see the showdown between him and Delko that has been brewing for a couple of seasons now. I hope Delko punches his lights out.

Yeah I thought he smiled too, which made me think that maybe Ryan's firing was not what it seemed. I couldn't help but think back to the last season when all the stuff w/the mole was going on. Horatio had Ryan doing something behind every one's back. Ryan came up to H and said "I can't keep doing this" or something to that effect. H told him that it would be alright. Did we ever find out what that was really all about?

I don't know how I feel about Eric and Calleigh. It is a little weird. In the beginning Eric was so immature that he and Calleigh seemed to have an almost older sister/younger brother vibe. Ewwww Yucky!! I don't know-- I just can't get w/it.

And did I completely miss Alex? I don't remember seeing her.

Alex was there. She picked the skin out of the dead fiance's teeth which led to the "Bookie" which lead to Ryan getting fired.
If the air was hot enough to burn the guys mouth throat and lungs why wasn't that tiny pice of tissue burned?

Yep, Alex was there. Early in the episode she was going over the fire victim's body. Since all corpses need to have good dental hygiene, she flossed his teeth and found some evidence in there and sent it along with a CSI for identification. ;)

Ryan Wolfe was no Tim Speedle so I'm not that broken up about him being fired. Ryan has always seemed to want to be in the limelight. His little cat and mouse relationship he had going on with that reporter and the fact that he had a tv camera following "to make the crime lab look positive" after the whole mole episode. Now he's going to piss off all the people he worked with that really tried to help him. This should definitely be interesting.

Ryan did not get fired over that little thing--there HAS to be more on what he did SO THE CASES THAT HE WORKED ON GET REOPENED. Any clues?

Ryan fired? Say it isn't so. He is the only reason I watch this show, especially with that whole Calleigh and Delko thing brewing. Can you say YUCK. Delko has always been my 2nd least favorite character on the show (Alex is the 1st, who talks to dead bodies like they were lovers??). I was so excited when I thought Delko was going to be gone, now it looks like Ryan. And what did he really do this time? Lie about gambling? Not worth being fired over, atleast they could have used a better reason.

THANK GOD RYAN IS FIRED!!:)

Okay - now you know how I feel about that! I know that he will be like a cockroach - unable to get rid of him but I can enjoy it while I can!

THANK GOD DELKO IS GOING TO GET SOME CALLIE!!:)

Okay - my thoughts are clear there also! Delko has been through more crap than anyone on the show. It seems to be time for him to enjoy - and Callie well she really doesn't amount to much anymore. She used to be really hot when she was the firearms expert - nothing like a good looking blonde and a pistol, but now she is just one of the guys. She might as well provide pleasure for Delko.

As for the reason for firing Wolfe - I think it boiled down to him looking Horatio indirectly in the eyes and lying to him. Remember when Delko got in trouble for buying weed, he came clean to the big red-head and all was fixed!

Bring on more sex - less Wolfe and more cleavage! After all, this show is strictly eye-candy!

I am actually kind of liking Delko being in "L-O-V-E" with Calleigh, but I'm not so sure I see her reciprocating much - just being a good friend? It oddly makes me like Delko more though.

I like this show a lot, in spite of itself. One nitpick from last night. Delko was outside the house, telling Callie that the fire dept wouldn't let them in until the dept declared it safe--but the fire dept would let them close enough to peer in the windows, just after a water tank exploded from the roof....?<img border=">

At the risk of repeating myself, Grissom and Mac (CSI and CSINY) both are in the lab. H just wants to play cop. He is part of the CSI lab, isn't he?
