April 23, 2007: Marriage, Revisited

I knew this episode was headed somewhere fun when our opening Horatio-ism was, “Welcome… to the divorce… of the future.” After I stopped laughing, I considered the fact that we had already seen a house with lasers, Kelly Carlson with a chainsaw, and a personal trainer named Mandi. What more does one need in a pre-credits sequence? Nothing, that’s what.

As always, for those who might have missed the big reveal, Hank and Laurie jointly killed Hank’s lawyer when they realized that he stole everything from their safe-deposit box and also got the deed to their house. In fact, in what passes for an ironic twist, they stabbed him with their wedding-cake knife. Much as I love Kelly Carlson, her Laurie was just an older, married and somehow slightly less screwed-up version of Kimber from Nip/Tuck. Not that there’s anything wrong with sticking with what works.

On the other hand, Rachel Quaintance certainly shied away from type as a supremely bitchy female divorce lawyer with no ethics. I was having so much fun with this episode that I didn’t even care how she got Carmen to make a dramatic entrance (in the sleekest courthouse ever, I might add) in order to discredit Delko. (This week’s effort to connect all the plot threads was even more forced than usual, but it was such an enjoyable episode compared to what we’ve had recently that I can’t be too harsh.) Was it wrong of her to question Eric’s competency? No, but she did it for the wrong reasons. It’s hard to imagine any situation where he’d be back four months after a major trauma involving memory loss and not have anyone triple checking his work.

Not that this is "Pick on Eric Delko" night, but him and Calleigh? Seriously? When she kissed him on the cheek, he looked like a satisfied seventh-grader. This awkward flirtation must end. Now. At first it seemed as though Calleigh was just helping Eric out in the wake of his accident, but all of a sudden it seems a lot less innocent — and a lot more disgusting. Someone needs to have a sit-down with Calleigh and explain that it’s OK to date outside of the Miami-Dade police force.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that the last part of the season seems to have shown a slight uptick in quality so far, with each week getting a little better. Let’s hope that trend continues over the final three episodes. Luckily, next week looks pretty awesome, so I’ll check back in with you all then.

Horatio, I hate you so much.

That couple was awesome. Can we have them on every week? I hope they at least get conjugal visits. I felt bad for their son, and I'm glad they didn't make him the killer. CSI loves teen murderers. Sweet ride, too.

Do they really put laser beams in households where neither wife nor husband want to move out? Wasn't that kinda... I don't know, slowly dripping down some sub par writer's behind?

Speaking of junk, did anyone else notice Ho Jr. delivering his lines the same way as Ho Sr.? Cheesiness is hereditary, I guess. Actually, Horatio was delivering his lines slower than usual. I swear he wasted like 15 minutes just trying to get through his sentences.
I'm kinda glad Delko got nailed, not because of him, but because it proved what an unfit BOSS Horatio is. What, the dude got shot in the head and received NO counseling? No physical therapy, no training, etc? No compensation? In fact, they messed up his accounts? Ho, the guy got shot because you're an overzealous idiot. He's your brother in law. Give the guy a break. Hell, he didn't even get a lawyer? Good LORD! I'm really starting to hope Delko quits, transfers to Chicago and takes Calleigh with him. I'd totally watch that show.

BTW thought it would have been interesting if the lawyers had actually been working together to bleed the couple dry by extending the time it took to get them divorced.

It is highly ironic that Caruso's own divorce (the 3rd one) needed 2,5 years to get settled. It could be possible that Caruso approached TPTB himself with the script of this episode

Who killed the trainer? I missed that part.

ReginaH, the trainer's husband killed her. They had been having marriage trouble and he followed her to the house. He killed her when the husband ran out to stop the wife from chain saw-ing the boat.

This show had a lot less Horatio and cheesiness than normal and I think that added to its entertainment level.

I thought the same thing about this divorce episode - David Caruso is already in charactor.

i also noticed Ho Jr's S L O O W W W speech and side turns. i couldnt tell if he was told to do that, or chose to, or has seen it so much it came out accidentally. either way, lose it!

i agree this was a really fun, enjoyable epi. i thought the attorneys were going after the couple together too, especially when i saw that completely ridiculous, unrealistic signing over the deed to their house in front of the police station scene.

i work with some wonderful guys whom i consider friends, but i would NEVER ever kiss them, even on the cheek. that said, i sooo want to see eric making out with someone so i can live vicariously!!!!

Where have I been? I missed the part of who killed the trainer's wife too and didn't realize it till I read the comments here. Guess the show moved SO FAST it lost me. Loved it. Thought it had so much humor I was cracking up. Agree I hope Delko & Call DON'T become a couple - thought she was just being nice - but then I said wait a minute is this too nice? - AND I lost something else. What's with all the references to Ho Jr??? WHO is that? Love Horatio MORE now that I've read the article about Curuso really enjoying his role and purposely doing the turns, glasses, etc as a kick. It's one for me as well!

I'm assuming Ho Jr. = Delko? I love the idea of Calleigh/Delko I'm only wondering what their couple name will be. Celko? Ceric? Du kelko? LOL

Tonight's ep was fun. I thought the son was the murderer for most of the ep so it was cool that he wasn't. I liked the laser bit too. I found myself missing Horatio throughout the ep though since he wasn't on much.

I absolutely hate that girl who is milking Delko for money. I have a feeling her come uppance will be spectacular.

As to dating outside of the office, Boa's the one dating everyone, not Calleigh and afterall where else are you gonna meet men when you work tons of hours a week?

If the posters referring to Ho Jr WERE talking about Delko, his slow speech is - or so I thought - INTENTIONAL to remind us he did get shot in the head. Nobody'd expect him to be 100% after that (another questionable fact that they didn't double check him when he was doing things, but then weren't his first mistakes caught by his team and corrected even though it was after the fact?). I didn't notice any sideway glances that shouldn't have been there, but then that's just me.

Could Ho Jr. be Ryan? He is the most condescending schmo ever. I can't stand him. (Although, H. is super cr@ptacular. Love him.)

This episode was enjoyable, but do they have to solve EVERY case in 1 day? They even had 2 homicides, an incompetency hearing & solved both cases all in the span of one day. Calliegh wore the same clothes for the whole episode.
YEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! B-)

Yes, it is Ryan.

HoCaine has become a charicature of himself. I doubt that the lines Caruso has to say during one epiosde amount to more than an A4-page.

I still shudder when I think about that creepy TV Guide interview...

I guess a lot was missed, the episode featuring Eric when he came back was after an absence during which he mentioned therapy. Counseling? He wouldn't get counseling after his sister was killed by the gang. It's not his nature to admit problems. Calleigh was watching him after he came back and questioned him, Greg did too. He snapped at them for doing so until H told him to cool it, they were just helping him.
One of the few things I dont like about CSI:Miami is the inappropriate clothing. Tank tops? Calleigh and the Medical examiner both in tank tops? I guess it's to get the male viewers interested.

This point particularly annoyed me: The attorney was making a valid argument about Delko and not only was Horatio—his supervisor—not there to witness it, he didn't acknowledge that as his boss he clearly dropped the ball!

Shows what a lousy boss Horatio has become....

I have question. The drywall powder on the husband (who killed his wife) How in the hell did it stay on his shoulder all neat and perfect. He just brushed it off when Horatio mentioned it. DUH.
What was Ryan doing in the House if all the action was going on outside?
Is Horatio a cop or a CSI? I am really cnfused on this matter.
That case was lame.
Other than that liked this epi a lot LOved the new Divorce American Style. Those two cracked me up.
