September 21, 2006: They're Back....
Ah, haven't you missed those great shots of the Vegas skyline? The smell of stale blood and gunpowder residue? Hodges' smoothly relating everything he does to women, even if only talking about his mother? It must be CSI in the air. I hope that many of you are going to join me in conversation this season and that McDreamy hasn't taken you away.
Last season, a lot of people complained that the last few episodes contained more character development than crimes. I hear this season we'll have a good mix of the two, which should excite almost everyone. So in Part 1 of this two-part season-opener, we have a whole mess of crimes, but I was a little torn about the quality. Maybe it's because I've been dumbing it down, watching Rock Star all summer or 'Til Death and Happy Hour before this, but I was a bit confused as to what was going on in the first half hour or so. We had the death-defying Cirque du Soleil act with a woman crushed at the bottom, and we had a man in a tuxedo, dead at a party that looked liked a Panic! At the Disco video. Then, in the 15 minutes after that, everything became clear. Actually, maybe way too clear. The woman dead at the show simply ran backstage with her date and stood in the wrong spot? That's it? That seemed way too easy to solve. At least they had to do something with sesame seeds to find out this was the first time they'd ever seen a suicide where the gun remained in the victim's hand.
The last 15 minutes were the excitement, though. Maybe "excitement" is the wrong word as it's hard to be overjoyed that Catherine got drugged at a club and apparently raped in a hotel room. And if you saw the preview for next week, something happens with her daughter, so maybe this isn't going to be a good season for Cat. The intriguing case was at the very end, when a guy is found dead and right next to him is a quarter-scale replica of the entire room complete with dead body and blood. That's bizarre and something I'm looking forward to seeing next week.
It certainly was good to see Brass on the job, too, even if he's not quite mentally ready to be back. It also looks like the most popular discussion from last season is now history. Nick shaved his hair off. No more talk about his Clay Aiken look from last season.
Overall, an interesting start to a new season, one in which every episode is going to have to be great to ward off the charging Patrick Dempsey.

This was a good episode. Well, the last ten minutes had me intrigued. I will be watching next week (only because the new Grey's is on at 9 instead of 8 - sorry)
What was with all of the goofy smirks and winks and stuff that was going on between Sarah and Grissom. I mean, I know they are in a relationship, but we never had to sit through all that before. Keep it out of the work place.
I hope they catch the scumbag who messed with Catherine.
And David, sorry I won't be watching each week. But, I will tune into your blog to keep up with things!!!

Hi David!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the first 45 minutes were anti-climatic! But boy-oh-boy did the last 10 or 15 make up for it! I'm really looking forward to next week.
I'm just hoping they use less of the pitiful Hodges and MORE of the adorable Archie. He's a favorite around my household! He needs a much larger part!

Anybody have any idea what exactly Catherine was doing in the bathroom. It was too hard to really tell. Was she cutting off her fingernails? Using a tampon? If so, why? Terribly confused, but damn if it doesnt have me wanting to watch next week..

I never felt the need to watch Grey's before, so I certainly wouldn't give up CSI to check it out now!
As for what Catherine was doing, yes, she was actually scraping out anything that might be under her nails, like skin, in the hopes she may have scratched the creep that did that to her. And yes, a tampon for any fluids that might still be present; she doesn't want anyone else involved yet, but she wants to make sure she collects any evidence she can.
'The guy' in the murder in the end is Danny Bonaduce.

Hi David!
Didn't Catherine have problems with alcohol last season? She obviously was drugged but I think her alcohol abuse will come into play if she ever involves the authorities. I just don't like Gil and Sara togehter, they just don't match up to me. Nick looks so much better!
Next week should be good, what a creepy ending.

Hey David, Happy to see CSI back! but I agree that the last 15 minutes was the best and the other two cases were so lame. And what is with sofia in the opening! She will never be part of the CSI gang! And finally, those G/S scenes made me want to puke! They were too cute! CSI stop it!

I know the Catherine scenes at the end with her doing her own rape exam was supposed to be moving but it just made me want to smack her...hard. Hasn't she learned the hard way after the daddy DNA fiasco about the dangers of doing your own off the books investigation. Guess not.

Where was Nick? She came with him; why didn't he look for her? If he finds out about this, he'll feel really guilty (as he should). Everybody knows you "go home with the man what brung ya!"
I LIKE Grissom & Sara together. His "goodbye" was a little curt, I thought. I loved Warrick's "Where's the love?"
And I don't mind a third woman on the show with all that testosterone flowing!

I agree that the first 45 minutes were anticlimactic. One suicide and one accidental death. No foul play? Not terribly compelling. But the scale-model murder scene was very interesting and I look forward to that investigation.
But how guilty is Nick going to feel when he finds out what happened to Catherine after he ditched her for the blonde? He

1) I would have rather seen Hodges in credits than Sofia
2) Sarah had an "alcohol" issue the season before last
3) Catherine had an "alcohol" incident last season with the episode "Weeping Willows" in which they called her onto the job shortly after she had made it home after going to a bar and drinking
4) I don't think it will go the same way as the Daddy DNA issue although for a brief moment I had a breakdown and thought she may call Sam instead of the Lab

Not loving the first epi, but hoping for a great season. I too thought the entire show up to the last 15 minutes was "snoozarama" - plus, am I the only one on the face of the earth that finds Cirque Du Soleil absolutely creepy and nightmarish??? But I'm looking foward to seeing what happens with Catherine (who was performing her own rape exam, btw) next week. I didn't find anything wrong with the "googly eyes" of Grissam and Sarah, and to tell you the truth, didn't even think anything of it until I read these blogs and realized that it WAS something.
I might be taping CSI and watching GA, but I'll still be tuning into this blog :o)

The whole episode was a bit disappointing. How many times have we seen Catherine tell a woman involved in a sexual assault how important it is to due a rape kit. There is no way what she did will be allowed in court, but it may help catch her rapist!
I did love the miniature house and all of the details! Loved the pot rack on the removable roof with all the correct pots and pans!
