I have this funny feeling right now. I think this was the best episode of the season so far and actually the best episode in a long time on CSI but at the same time it was certainly right up there with Nick being buried alive as completely emotionally draining. The episode itself was great, the story line though certainly nothing great about it.
Poor Greg. He was completely stoked after completing his first trial, looking all sharp in his suit and then he gets the beatdown of his life. I know a lot of people wanted to see more stories revolve around Greg, but I'm pretty sure this isn't what we all had in mind. Man, the beating him and all the others got looked brutal. I can't imagine the feeling. In my entire life I've thrown exactly zero punches and only had one punch thrown at me. What the heck would I do if even one person came up to me and started punching or kicking me, let alone the massive amount that got thrown down in this episode? If you saw the preview last week you knew this was coming, but it was still quite shocking. I find it remarkable, though, how even when lying on the ground, bones broken and covered in blood, Greg is still able to tell Sara about the scratch and the spit. That's a dedicated man right there. These kids just randomly beat the crap out of people for fun and show no remorse when confronted. What a world. It was really cool for the man whose life Greg saved to come and thank him but then also, do you get the feeling this isn't over yet? When the kid Greg hit with his car died, the look on what I assumed was his brother's face was one of those wait-and-see-what-happens-to-you-next type of stares.
For weeks now I've been resisting talking about GSR simply because that's not what anything has been about this season. Despite the complaints of many people, the one or two very subtle scenes between Sara and Gil aren't any different than past episodes. Now we're just looking at it differently. I went back and checked out some episodes of past seasons this week and there are subtle remarks in a few of those too that I'm sure no one even thought twice about at the time. So, Grissom coming in on Sara in her street-fighter stance that's just not true GSR. Though I will say that Sara looked pretty dang good in just that tank top kicking the crap out of the dummy.
Finally, as much as I wanted to rag on K-Fed, I really can't. He was harmless. I mean, obviously "Pig" wasn't a harmless character, but with only a handful of lines and two real scenes, Mr. Spears didn't provide a jump-the-shark moment as I (and probably most of you) expected. Popozao friends. Popozao.

This episode was primo Old School CSI; the final locker scene was reminiscent of the breakfast scenes that would sometimes close out the first season shows. Engrossing (and, yes, exhausting) from moment one.

Wow, is Vegas going to continue to let them film there after this ep? They really came down hard on the Vegas mantra "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas." Talking all aobut how the city glorifies what happens and encourages you to feel no remorse. I happen to agree, but you know, don't bite the hand...

Ok, I don't usually post comments about shows but I just had to about tonight's. This was possibly one of the best episodes of CSI I've seen yet and it all has to do with the last scene in the locker room. I was so excited to hear what Grissom had to say at the end. It was 100% true and it's so refreshing to hear it on tv. To actually hear someone saying that on tv out loud was just awesome. Major props to the writers on this one. Keep it up!

Sorry this is so long but tonight's ep rocked. First of all I got goosebumps when Greg was getting attacked. It scared me the way that boy (Demetrius) looked with those white eyes and it was clear he meant serious harm to someone cause he didn't drive away when Greg came and then it looked like he wanted to bash that guy's head in with the rock before coming after Greg. I was yelling at the TV "run him over!!" and then Greg did. Good. I was like "YES!" Poor Greg. Loved Sara's scene with Greg. Am I mistaken or was she not supposed to touch him? I mean she wasn't there processing but still... but that she still did touch him, comforted him was cool. When Greg said the guy spit on him her face showed what we were all feeling as did Grissom's face during the autopsy of the first guy that got killed. Petersen twice in this ep obviously reigned in strong emotions... something's brewing there. I love George Eads, he always pulls his scenes off especially the "I'm sick of it" scene. Loved Sara/Grissom during the 'kick the dummy' scene and especially loved all of our favorite characters together at the end discussing their feelings and sort of giving us clues to their own upbringings. Like Sara's statement that you don't get a 'by' just because, essentially, you had a rough childhood (as we know she did) or Warrick's reminding us his Grandmother raised him and wooped his butt when he needed it. Also loved Warrick reassuring Catherine that Lindsey would be a beautiful young lady. Still loving Brass' crew cut and even liked Sofia wielding that shot gun. This ep proves that all the team on one case makes for the best eps and when it's a case where we care about the people involved it's even better. I mean whose heart didn't break looking at those two adorable kids who lost their Dad? Oh and loved that Hodges got some respect/time from Grissom. I've been waiting for that to happen. I too think Greg will be seeing Demetrius' family again only because the actress playing his Mom and the actor playing his brother are both pretty well known. I could be wrong. One question though. Was Grissom in the locker room all along or is there a back entrance? LOL
As to the commentary. What wasn't true GSR? Does that mean you think the scene between Sara/Grissom was different tonight in a bad way? I'm thinking that they are handling it very subtely BUT that the storyline, now that they've committed to it HAS to be allowed to move forward and evolve. We've seen two allusions so far to the fact that Sara might be the agressor in this relationship... I think it's cool. If anything it makes you think about it. Plus when Sara gives Grissom one of those 'Scuba Duba Doobie" stare into his eyes looks... it rocks my world. Love her! She pulls sexy as heck out of nowhere, throws it down, then reverts back to regular Sara in the space of 4 seconds.

I went back and checked out some episodes of past seasons this week and there are subtle remarks in a few of those too that I'm sure no one even thought twice about at the time. Sorry, I always forget the one last thing I want to say. To David (commentator) to alot of fans, like me, who've really loved potential GSR through the years, and to whom, potential GSR was always one of the main reasons CSI fascinated me, I bet there is not one exchange between Gris/Sara that has gone unnoticed! I always thought twice about every exchange but I totally see your point! It was all very subtle in past eps as I still feel it is now. Great Ep

sonnet53 - good point about GSR. I guess those that have wanted it, certainly noticed. I guess it's those that don't want it that are the vocal ones now. I mean, I wasn't writing this up 3 years ago to get reaction - but I don't remember any uproar over any potential relationship, but now it's a hot topic every week with every word they speak to each other whether it's just simply two co-workers in the same room (like I saw tonight - albeit with a raised eyebrow from Grissom)or whether they are obviously flirting.

I loved this ep! The best of this season so far. Poor greg. Love the Greg and Sara part. So sweet. BTW, Jorja is looking so hot this season. CSI need more eps like this.

Finally a good episode. Intense but good.
I like that the GSR is there in private moments as it would be with any couple who are intimate. Hey, Sarah looked hot being all bad ass. I also think it is fine that we aren't seeing more private moments.
I agree that this is not over between Greg and the guy's brother.
I think the episode also did a good job at showing how tourists that go to Vegas in search of a wild time sometimes get more than they bargain for. I have always thought the Vegas tourism ads were a bit irresponsible in promoting high risk behaviors without acknowleding the dangers. K-fed wasn't bad. He wasn't particulary good either. I did figure out he must have been the ring leader.
Oh, if Greg and the other guy was beat down when is was dark why were they still lying on the street in bright daylight? Shouldn't the cops have been there in five minutes and rushed them right to the hospital.

Was I the only one excited that Nick punched the crap out of K-Fed or Mr. Spears or Pig? The latter fits him best don't you agree?
As far as the episode it was a great one. After last weeks mess I was sure I would be writing off CSI this season but they redeemed themselves last night. Finally an emotional and true CSI episode. Poor Greg.
Forget Fannie smacking, I liked the Kevin smacking!
Oh, if someone could let me in on what the last few comments of the show was I missed it the darn phone rang and it was a call I had to take.

I agree that all Grissom/Sara interaction is now being viewed through the prism of GSR and folks are more sensitive to those exchanges. I recently watched a rerun of the episode where the murdered girl looked a lot like Sara. Grissom's actions in this episode took on another dimension after last season's final scene.
Last night's episode had all of the things that make CSI such a great show. I really liked the last scene with the whole gang interacting. I am a big fan of one overarching case and everybody working together. Since Greg is one of my favorite characters, I was glad to see him get some more screen time, but I hate that he had to take such a terrible beating. It really reminded me of how young he is when he was laying in the hospital bed worrying about what his mom would think.

I must admit, I didn't know that was K-Fed. But I did think that he was probably part of the gang when he started mouthing off at the crime scene.
Great episode, but it really creeped me out. I had a nightmare about waking up this morning and seeing gangs of young people walking around looking for victims, having been influenced by this episode. *shiver*

Mimi, you can maybe check out the end of the ep on CBS' Innertube. You can see the eps there. But Grissom's last line was "The truth is... a moral compass can only point you in the right direction; can't make you go there. Our culture preaches that you shouldn't be ashamed of anything you do anymore and unfortunatly this city is based on the principle that there's no such thing as guilt; do whatever you want; we won't tell, so without a conscience there's nothing to stop you from killing someone and evidently you don't even have to feel bad about it." Roll Credits. LOL
David - thanks for your reply. What I find interesting is that the way GSR is going this year I, being an enthusiast even, can't tell when they are flirting! What I can tell though is that there are no more "I don't know what to do about this" scenes with Sara obviously pining and Grissom reticent to follow through on what he feels and for that I'm grateful. No more truncated conversations with Sara standing at his office doorway just aching, figuratively, to be let in. So now she's in; good enough for me.
But back to the K-fed smack down... I so totally LOVED seeing Nick punch K-Fed's character!! I love seeing Nick get all Texas-pissed-off. I thought it was a real response given Greg's head had nearly been bashed in and Warrick had just found his hair. That was so messed up. And yes, Greg seemed awfully young when crying over how his Mom would freak out. Sort of harkened back to Grissom's "you're a big boy now - you don't need a wingman." Yikes.

I agree, it was the best show this season, I was going to give up on it if the shows did not go back to the formula which made it great. Poor Greg, and what is it with Sara and him? The locker room scene was very good, and its good to see Brass acting like a cop again and not a beaten down sorry second guessing individual. Bring on more like this....!!!

My favorite line: when Greg told Sara to go ahead and process the scene. Sara said, "I'm not here for that. I'm here for you." Very sweet.
