January 25, 2007: It's On You Tonight!
Bad news, folks, (good news to some of you). Grissom invited me up to watch him lecture on Wednesday, so I took a trip to his school and sat in on him for a bit. Unfortunately, it's a long trip, and I didn't make it home in time to see this week's episode.
But, I'm opening up a string for you to recap and comment, and I'll watch it over the weekend and leave my own thoughts then.
Here's hoping you all enjoyed it, so I'll have something to look forward to.
Until next week, friends.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I did not like tonight's episode. I don't really care for Liev Schreiber and I don't like Catherine as the "leader." I eagerly await Grissom's return.

I liked tonight's episode alot. Was anyone else just screaming "open it! open it!" when Sara had the box in the locker room? I wouldn't put it past them to make us wait to find out what was in it. And what WAS in it was at once frustrating, beautiful and kinda ugly LOL. And no note. Ah maybe he figured if someone else opened the box 'by mistake' the cat would be out of the bag or maybe he thought the cocoon would speak for itself. Have patience, it's alive and well just might take some time to come to fruition. Not sure but it is kind of a sweet gift when you think about it. I'm assuming it's a butterfly cacoon?
OK aside from the box I actually was relieved that Catherine was not portrayed as the bad guy but rather as someone in a tough spot. I think she did the best she could. Why Nick was so angry is another story. Not sure on that score but I thought flames were gonna shoot out of his ears when Catherine told him to stand down LOL
I also thought it interesting that they took the time to make Sara state definitively that she hates Deception. Heh. Think about that one. And I thought her little smackdown of Keppler was appropriate. Plus I want to know how she knew where that key was.
I also liked Brass alot in this episode. Telling the under sheriff off ROCKED! He deserved it for his sexist attitude toward the DA. I hate this under Sheriff. I liked the redhead
Keppler is flat out wierd... and not in that bumbling, terribly sexy, I'm-gonna-send-you-a-butterfly-cacoon-to-tell-you-I-Love-You Grissom kind of way. Just creepy. I think Catherine's scared of him on some level.
Still trying to figure out why eps with Grissom in them can't include the whole team like the last two eps did.
And finally I gotta say it. If Grissom is the Champion of the Little Guy... (by the way, way wrong of Keppler to make Grissom look shady to Hodges) is Sara the Champion of Grissom's Little Guy? LOL I too really can't wait for Grissom to come back. It's amazing how different the show feels without him. It even looks different somehow. And I actually miss you too David...

As someone who returned to CSI after a few years just for Liev Schreiber, I have to say I really like him and his character. Here's hoping for a spinoff!
But as for the team, what a bunch of whiners! They are not in charge. They do not call the shots. Yes, Catherine could have trusted them. But the guys in charge decided to keep the circle of trust small, which in this case was the right decision.
Only Warwick seemed to be reasonable about the whole situation. And that other junior guy (I dunno his name) but only because he kept quiet and seems to understand the chain of command.

I know in shows like this that I have to suspend reality. I accept that. I always say if I wanted reality, I'd watch the news. However...They FAKED a crime scene??? They lied. Bottom line. Rule #1 for law enforcement, you DON'T lie. You can do pretty much anything and get be ok, but if you lie, even once, you're done. Your credibility is shot. Defendants' lawyers would have a field day, "So, Ms. Willows. You've faked a crime scene before, I say you did the same to my client because you needed a suspect." Sorry, Not happening. There is NO way any of them would still have a job, and the lab would undergo INTENSE scruteny. This is too far out there, even for suspended reality.
P.S. I apologize for any misspelled words, I've been awake WAY too long.

I find the whole "faking a crime scene" thing hard to side with. Like someone else said the defense would have a field day with it. It would make people look at the department and say "well they did it once, who's to say they won't do it again"
When I saw the previews I thought Cath was going to be a major snot, but she really did seem reluctant to lie to the team. But I do understand how the team feels, like it was said they trust her with their lives and it's sad she could not vouch for them.
Kudos to the team for being to smart to let this go unnoticed. I don't think they were trying to do anything but try and find the real murderer. It speaks volumes that they would go such distance to be sure that justice was not being compramised.
I do love the gift. But Grissom, next time leave a card.

If he sent a card, it wouldn't be Grissom. Loved how the return address just said "Grissom" like the card when he sent Sara the plant seasons ago.
And faking a crime scene. Um, why? My son came in a few minutes late and asked why they were doing it and I couldn't figure it out myself. So they wanted the killer to think that someone else was being charged with the crime so he'd relax???? Haven't these people ever heard of creative leaks to the media? Then, they ended up almost ignoring actual evidence that tied the killer to the murdered woman. Any defense attorney worth his/her salt is gonna get that guy off in about a minute. And, not only did Cat call her own integrity into question, she brought Warrick into it without his permission. He was angry, he just doesn't show it as much as Nick.
Loved Sara's comment about how she'd speak to Cat in private if she had anything to say then, looking directly at Keppler, "No offense." How better to say, "You're the outsider. I don't trust you a bit."
I understand Nick's anger. First, Cat shuffles him off on some busywork assignment. Then he notices evidence identical to what he collected being analyzed for the faked crime. Then he discovers the connection between Sara's murdered woman and the original killing but Cat tells him literally to back off. Then, finally, when they can't deny it any longer, Cat and Keppler fess up. Heck, I felt betrayed and I don't even work there. It was betrayal on a personal level but also on a professional level. Forget defense attorneys; I would have trouble trusting Cat after that.
And she didn't seem to mind faking a scene too much. Yeah, she voiced some discomfort but then she jumped in with both feet. I think Keppler's a bad influence and she seems enamored of him. They're having way too many intimate drinks together. I guess the purpose of this strange "think like a killer" (as in, how can we help the defense as much as possible?) guy is to break things then have Grissom come back and put the pieces together again.
But why doesn't anyone seem the least bit curious about that freakin box on Grissom's desk? Sara gave it a glance and walked right by. So much for professional curiosity.

I miss you too, David, and want to know what you thought of the lecture. WOW what good recaps but then never expect less from the people commenting. The faking the crime rubbed me wrong, too, but really proved the "team" knows their business, going at it on their own. I think Nicks' going to hold onto his annoyance for a while but that's another thing I thought was great, all of the unanswered questions - what's in Gil's box - the cacoon/no note (notice how Sarah smiled!!?) - where things are going to stand/go once Grissom returns - it just left a lot of "more to come" and I thought that added to the show.

Personally what pushed the bounds of credibility was that after working for so many years with Catherine that NONE of her co-workers said 'maybe she has a good reason for this' during their little get together outside. I could see that level of suspicion if it was only the new guy involved.
As far as faking the crime scene, I think if it had been properly cleared with the DA then it wouldn't be much different from a law enforcement sting opperation. Press leaks alone may not have been enough, but news cameras will always show up at a murder (at least it seems like it), so you have a more convincing performance with people earnestly working the case and less chance that something slips out, remember when Nick told his old friend some facts about a case only to see it broadcast on the news? Now, because of not getting this approved, there could and probably will be fallout from this.
I am hoping that when Grissom gets back in a couple of weeks and opens his box that Keppler is still there to help with that case, I think their styles would work together well (even if they don't get along well).

I thought this episode sucked.
The plotline was laughable, I didn't see one good reason to keep the team in the dark. What possible purpose did it serve? And Catherine is a pretty crappy liar, she didn't even try to lie to them anyways (with the exceptiohn of the horribly recreated crime scene). She kicked lab guy out, told the rest of them to back off, told Sara she couldn't talk about ...whatever...
If you're a CSI wouldn't you make sure the evidence (follow the evidence, trust the evidence, interpret the evidence, add whatever other evidence type quote here) actually matched the crime scene? I mean c'mon, it's not your first day on the job.
I also find it amazing that nearly every room has glass walls and no one noticed this little cabal....
And I'm enjoying the Keppler (whatever his name is) character...except for the lame "lie to your team" idea.
Crappy, crappy, episode

Anyone else found this episode unbelievable? First, that they all would shirk Catherine's authority and reexamine evidence behind her back. Come on!! I know we can't equate this show with the real world but I for one can't stomache the crazy self-righteousness of this CSI group. We're a team now! Pleease, they would've all been fired.
I don't find lying about a crime scene so horrible. They did it to flush out a criminal. However, they should've kept the DA informed so all their evidence wouldn't have been thrown out.
This season has been an uneven one for me. Liev is the only interesting character on the show besides Grissom.

"Personally what pushed the bounds of credibility was that after working for so many years with Catherine that NONE of her co-workers said 'maybe she has a good reason for this' during their little get together outside."
Are we thinking about the same Catherine who used the lab to get DNA tests under the table. Or had her own possible rape scene processed behind the scenes, Or who was partially responsible for the murder of that innocent man when she said things about a case that were unconfirmed?....
My first thought would not be that Cath had a good reason for doing what she did.
