February 15, 2007: The Miniatures

I love the miniature killer! OK, so I don't love the killer himself, obviously, but I love what he brings to CSI. Once again, I was on the edge of my seat the entire episode, right from the start when we saw what essentially was a Grissom freak-out. I loved the opening scene when he was scurrying down the hall with a very panicked look on his face. After all, Gil is the guy who always believes the evidence will point to the suspect, and at the moment he was holding a fourth model, he knew it had led him astray this time.

I must give my props to Gil, though. I know he's great at noticing the little details, and, well, it's his job, but I would have driven myself nuts trying to find the ever so slightest of clues in a miniature model. But he found the date on the newspaper (kudos to the producers for using the correct date), the cat behind the books, the menus that were able to help them find the right building, the notes on the dolls, and best of all, he did an autopsy on the body to find the lungs!

The notes on the bloody doll faces were certainly the most intriguing of the findings. We've talked about what the dolls meant at length in previous blogs, and there have been lots of theories. I don't know if we're actually done with them yet, but I wasn't anticipating a message on them of "You Were Wrong." (Sorry, those were the three words I saw, but I know there were four miniatures, so I'm assuming there's another word that I just missed, right?) The best part is that I'm incredibly intrigued, and really, this could go in many directions now. I don't understand how the killer could possibly know they were going to get the wrong person, unless he and Ernie Dell had this plan going the entire time. Maybe they were all there for just this reason, but there has to be some significance to the doll itself. I was half expecting one of Ernie's old home videos to have the doll in it, with the blood on her face.

And of course, I was sure the killer was the doctor's brother, after everything that went down. So of course, when they found his tear at the crime scene I leaned back in the chair thinking he was caught. I just figured all three of the other victims were former patients and did something to the doctor that her brother didn't like. Of course, they threw me for a loop when it was revealed that he helped her commit suicide because he thought he could just blame it on the miniature killer.

But of course, however far away the crew might still be from catching the killer, they finally figured out a common bond between all the victims — Ernie's son. I suppose that's one step, because before this they were confused as to what the victims had in common.

There was a (very) brief point where I wanted this story line to close, but I must have been crazy to think like that. This is an exciting part of the season, and it keeps getting better. Give me some more every two or three episodes, and that's OK with me. Oh, and we had a minute or so of Greg talking about the deposition, so I suppose we'll be seeing more of that soon as well.

I'm excited, how about you?

Until next week, friends.

Hey David!! you must be excited - your blog is up WAY early!! Glad you enjoyed the ep. I did too.
I think it's GREAT also that the mini killer has not been caught. I was disappointed for a minute when I thought maybe he was but then again I couldn't see them letting this storyline go. Does anyone else like squint and lean forward everytime Grissom is looking at the miniatures... like I'm thinking I might actually see something before Grissom does! AS if.
I have to admit I was slightly confused during parts of the episode but my friend explained to me that the psych really WAS the target BUT decided to use it as a way to stage her suicide. Then it made sense. Loved the surprise death of the cop at the crime scene. Did NOT love yet another one of Sofia's sad puppy dog face because she feels responsible for someone's death and needs to go to Grissom for comfort. Whatever. Just not my thing. And I hope this idea of Grissom not being around for a month and thus losing precious time isn't going to haunt him. He went away to rejuvinate, not to have a guilt trip laid on him.
Couple of other things. Am I insane to think Sara might have, at one time, BEEN one of Dell's Foster children? The look on her face when Lionel said his Father had tons of Foster kids was almost one of recollection or ALMOST recollecting something. I found myself looking for her gap-toothed smile among the kids in the video, though really I think the kids were too young to be her. I also wonder sometimes if Hodges is the killer LOL but that's cause I think everyone is the killer (part of the fun).
NOT happy with the lack of GSR. They never even looked eachother in the eyes but loved the rest of the episode. Loved the team feeling once again. Oh and for anyone who is going nuts wondering - the song when Nick and Warrick broke in to the psych's apartment was 'Wade In The Water' by Eva Cassidy off her 'Songbird' CD. Great voice. Died way too young.

Wait a second. Someone help me out. The three doll pics, I'm assuming were replicas of the original ones in each miniature. So the 4th mini had the same 3 pics placed inside of them with the words you were wrong on them. The words weren't on the original pics in the original minis right?

Sonnett53, I may be wrong, but I don't think they were the original ones. They commented on the pic of Izzy being in the newest mini, the other 2 I think he also found in the new one.

Loved the episode.

Why isn't Sara working crime scenes any more? They have her in one or two shots during the episode, but never show her working scenes.

Hey White2299, yeah that's what I was trying to say. That the pics with the writing were NEW (replicas of the original pics) but NEWLY placed into the 4th mini and written on as a personal message to Grissom.
Not sure about the Sara thing. It seems they are trying to change things up a bit. Like would Nick and Warrick really go through the door, guns drawn, BEFORE the cops? I don't think so! It did look like Sara was doing a scene next week though during the preview (with Warrick). What I want to know is how would the killer ever be able to predict where a cat would crawl off to die? Wouldn't that be hard to know unless you knew the cat intimately. LOL that sounded funny - gettin' intimate with the cat. I'm starting to wonder about that Fed Ex guy too. He looked hispanic and one of the boys in the video looked hispanic that they focused on at the end. I realize I'm grasping at straws here. Anyway, that's it for me. No more posts. I promise...

I also thought the 3 pieces saying "You Were Wrong" were all part of the newest miniature. Maybe I was wrong. Anyway, great ep from top to bottom, but once I saw the brother, I knew he was going to end up killing his sister. (The Law of the recognizable actor having to have a major part in the story.) Of course, originally I thought he'd be the miniature killer. I liked what the CSI writers did there. I also loved how once again every cast member was used, and each had their moment. As Borat would say, "Is Niiiice." ~ŠL

The pictures found with the words "You were wrong" were found in the new model.

About the cat...cats are creatures of habit. The cat probably took a nap there everyday - like the lady laid on the couch everyday at 4pm with a pillow on her head.

When the cop ended up dead - my husband thought that was an awesome twist. He just started watching this show with me when the 2nd miniature showed up.

Great episode. Can't wait for more on this story line.

I love Harry Groener! He gave an outstanding performance on Star Trek: the Next Generation as Tam Ebron, the betazoid whose powers were so intense they were driving him mad. But best of all, he was Mayor Richard Wilkens, mentor of evil slayer Faith, and the most prosaic face of evil I've ever seen. He was just so down to earth & ordinary (and so sweet to Faith--the father she never had), but he turned into a giant dragon to devour Sunnydale! I LOVE YOU, HARRY!

Did anyone else think that Sara looked pregnant in a loose top she was wearing? Perhaps Sara has a little surprise for Gil! He's not the only one with something about to burst forth from a coccoon (so to speak)!

Lots of Hodges tonight, too. I wish he rather than Sophia had been the new regular. He's so funny!

Remember, the son said there had been foster kids before him? Sara could have been one of those.

Anyway, forgive my rambling, but I loved this episode. I too am looking forward to some Gil/Sara sweetness or sizzle!

Oh!!!! If the dolls were all part of the new miniature this time, it explains how the killer knew Grissom we wrong. I'd still hope there's some significance to the doll itself too.

The way the scene was shot - there were only close ups of Grissom removing the pictures, so I assumed he was taking the ones from all the minis.

Nice catch everyone.

As I was watching, I realized that some people have too much time on their hands ... a killer fascinated with building the exact replica of a crime scene. I'm amazed by the details of the models.
Also, I know how our mail system works... it would be an interesting for Grissom to get one box with the model that has been jostled by a mail carrier.

Funny comment about the mail, Spider-Man, and so true.

I noticed Sara's belly. Either fat or pregnant. Either way, bad choice of top.

Jorja Fox has admitted that she has a little bit of a beer belly. She's not pregnant. Just normal. Well, just like me, really. Mmmm. Beer. :)

WOW - Grissom's REALLY back - and LOVE that so is the mini monster - GREAT SHOW. David, the minute I saw the three pictures with YOU WERE WRONG I immediately assumed the message was YOU WERE WRONG ABOUT THE KILLER - I'M STILL HERE. Did nobody else think that was a given?? Having the newspaper dated two days AFTER Grissom opened the box - and what are the odds that it wouldn't happen while Grissom was gone - UNLESS the killer knew he was going to be away 4 weeks - I mean why prepare a death 4 weeks AFTER you send the box if there weren't an obvious reason. We know the killer is exact, detail-oriented, methodical. HOW does he (she?) know all of the intimate details of the room way before he kills the person? That's how he knew the cat ALWAYS goes behind the books on the bookcase (were the books in the miniature the SAME BOOKS and stacked the SAME WAY in the apartment? if so HOW would he/she know THAT????) I, too, thought it was the brother, when they first got him at the door. NEVER dreamed the cop would get it - nor that it was carbon minoxide (sp?) poisening. (HOW did he have the flowers in the miniature fall over and die right as the death occured??) WOW I've got questions and questions and questions and all of them adding to my interest and excitement and understanding of WHY this show is up there on top and driving us crazy, in a good way!! Wonder IF Sara was a foster child (but why does everyone think so, was she an orphan, never knew that) but I can't believe it would be going there. Lastly one final, just thought of it, question - why is all of this targeted toward Grissom? Is it because the killer knows he's a brain and wants to prove that he/she is smarter and can outsmart him? SO GLAD we've got a continuous thread - and hope one day we will see G/S together intimately - but glad they're making it so it's a b.g. thing, not really needed, but keeping us interested. GO CSI!!

OK, it was a great episode. I too found myself wanting this story to end, but then I thought, but this is so good.

David I thought he took those pictures out of the other mini's too and thought, how did they know? But, it makes much more sense this way.

I knew the cop was going to die. I mean, of course it was going to happen. The miniature killer is very precise and wouldn't send the crime scene if he knew he was going to get caught, or be wrong. He knew they would get there in time and try to stop it, he just had a better plan.

Sonnet53 I find myself leaning toward the tv as well, trying to see anything I can. I just don't know how everything can be so perfect. Is this person ever going to get caught?? My brother thinks they'll drag this out until the season finale, which makes sense and everyone seems to like not knowing who the killer is. I'm kind of hoping it's someone we've seen before, but I don't know.

It was nice to see everyone, even the little of Sara that we did see. This was her and Grissom's original case wasn't it? So she should've been working right with him. I was a little disappointed with the lack of GSR, but it still was a great episode. It seems they just keep getting better this season. Can't wait til next week!

Sara being pregnant would be very interesting. I am kind of upset that they haven't shown her and Grissom outside of work. I like them together. I think they have been together since the episode where he saw a women dead in a shower that looked alot like Sara. He was obsessed with the case; maybe he just realized then and there he had feelings for her.
