February 1, 2007: Meet Market
Miss me? Nah, didn't think so. You guys did such a great job with the recaps last week, I seriously thought about making myself busy again and just letting you write it up again. But I couldn't go another week without CSI. I kind of wish I did, though.
Now, I told you last week that I would watch the episode over the weekend and then comment on it, and I didn't. So here's my comment. I watched the first 20 minutes, and then decided I'd much rather be playing Madden. Does that say enough? I couldn't rely on that option this week, though, so I toughed it out.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
How's that for a recap of this week's episode? OK, I'm just kidding. I'll discuss it a little bit. I'm sure it will be split down the middle with people that liked it and those that didn't. But I have to admit, last week there were more comments about the episode being boring than I can remember in a long time. I can certainly picture many of those comments being cut and pasted into this week's commentary, too.
The whole body-harvesting idea creeps me out every time it's used in a show. Usually, we hear about organs being removed, but tissue, too? And man, let's hope I never need a new hip or something. Who wants to find out they got a diseased hip? That can't be pleasant. Overall, I just didn't buy the story as a whole. Am I just not smart enough for this show? (Don't answer that. No please, don't answer that.) I understand that the guy just out of prison wanted to start a new life, so he thought that killing himself was the only way. But he then goes and digs up a casket and burns a body that looks like him? Seriously? That turns into a separate case against the mortician (Gordon Clapp of NYPD Blue fame) and, of course, who couldn't see it coming that both he and the lab were a little bit shady?
Speaking of harvesting, wasn't that a whole story line this season on Nip/Tuck? And who should appear in this episode but John Hensley, who plays Matt on that show. Interesting coincidence, but at least he didn't have a part in that plotline. The whole paying for a "relationship" line was a slow-moving drag until the very end when we learned that he misread the situation the entire time. But again, you kind of knew the dead woman was his mother long before it was revealed. I'm not usually the quickest at figuring out the cases, as I like to just watch it for what it is and don't usually try to think ahead that much. However, this is three shows in a row now (sans last week, of course) that my fiancée has told me exactly what the ending was going to be long before it was revealed. That's not good, as the element of suspense has always been what's kept me interested in the show.
For instance, I saw the words "difficult," "hurt," "eyes," and "I'll miss you" in Grissom's letter to Sara. "I'll miss you" is interesting indeed. Hmmm, is Gil walking away from her? That keeps me interested.
And the picture of the girl sent to Keppler could also keep me interested. Of course, then the preview for next week might have just flat-out said that he was involved in the girl's death. So, one minute I was intrigued and two minutes and two seconds later, I wasn't anymore.
I also really need to get TiVo, as I couldn't make out the last words said while Mike was in the mortuary. The first person to tell me gets… um, gets… the satisfaction of being the first person to tell me. Isn't that a gift in itself?
Until next week, friends.

Ah come on David. LOL I think the last word to Keppler was "Kepppler" in an eeerie voice. I found the ending a total surprise but maybe I'm just easily fooled. OK so I am so DEAD right now! Coming from me (Sonnet53) that Grissom was going to mail Sara Sonnet # 47 just like killed me dead! Of course, he didn't actually MAIL it but this is Grissom we're talking about. And that piano piece was absolutely beautiful. I don't think I know what happened after that rush of blood to my head = romance. Hopefully he DID eventually mail it but it's getting kind of late. He'll be home before the letter! I wondered about the "I'll Miss You" in the letter but he also sent her the Sonnet which is NO break up Sonnet AND he said 'our parting was awkward' 'it's so difficult' which to me means to SAY how he feels. I don't think it was a Dear Jane letter at all though they might try to make us think it is just to torture us. You can read the Sonnet here http://www.shakespeare-online.com/sonnets/47detail.html. It's the best site to help you understand the sonnets which, even though I love them, I still need help with sometimes I did like this ep for many reasons one of which is that it had a surprise ending. The kid being the ladies son was wild and then Keppler with his 'voice'. He scares me LOL. I have my own thoughts on Keppler's voices but I'll keep it to myself. Love Sara's watching over Grissom's office and her snippy little "friend of yours?". LOL go get em! Also loved the fact that Sara finally got to go to the strip joint and that they worked the whole relationship dilemma into this ep which mirrors what's going on with Sara/Grissom. Plus you had to know she was thinking of her own Mother at the end there too. Loved the look on Doc Robbins face when Keppler opened the umbrella on him. AND I loved that Warrick was in this episode alot! I miss Warrick. Also loved the guest star from NYPD Blue. Don't know his name but he did a good job.

By the way that wasn't 'hurt' you saw it was 'betwixt my eye and HEART' and then there were some other things like 'though we're' and what appears to be 'clearly as if you' (were here) which falls into line with the Sonnet. No break up letter!! Thank GOD. AT least that's my opinion. What I want to know is how he signed it. looks like something 'et'

Sorry , kill me for 3 comments in a row but I in now way think Keppler killed the girl. What I think is that this girl's death effected him deeply and maybe is why he does what he does. And perhaps he IS a nutcase in the end but I don't think he killed THAT girl. Rather she might have been the catalyst. Just my thoughts. I'm blissfully spoiler free but I don't think he killed her so don't think the story is ruined for you yet David! He may have killed her killer... but not her. That's it I promise

This wasn't quite as boring as last week, in fact was much better than last week....which remains the worst CSI I have ever seen..IMO.
I want Keppler to be good and I think we'll find out he is.
The digging pipes and umbrellas out of the corpse was gross and funny at the same time, so that was typical CSI, but other times, I feel like we have different or indifferent writers right now. And I don't think it's cuz Gil is MIA, either.

I just watched an SVU (or maybe CI) episode that was about harvesting body parts and et all that were diseased. Its like the show topics go in cycles from show to show.
This episode didn't catch my attention much. I spent the hour sitting on the floor sorting through my kids toys - haha.
Looking forward to GG's return! (next week?)

I hardly think the harvesting of body parts is exclusive to other, more police oriented programs. More than one show can deal with that subject. Maybe it can't be over emphasized enough. Apparently, it occurs with more frequency in this country than we know, so it becomes a cautionary tale.
I actually did not realize the mother/son aspect until just before the reveal.
I think the girl in the picture is either Keppler's sister, daughter, niece, etc., nothing sinister, but a painful memory nonetheless.
I enjoy each and every episode no matter how over the top or restrained it may be.
I also try not to over think the Sara/Gil issue. It is supposed to be an aside, at least so far. I don't want it to become a focus of the show.

I can't comment fully on this episode now, as I'm in a bit of a hurry, but I wanted to say that I liked this episode. It reminded me of the old days, but it looks like I may be the only one. It just seemed like a normal CSI episode to me, except with all the Griss/Sara stuff, which I thought was great.
At first I thought the "I'll miss you." was a part of the note, but then I started to think... The note was about their "parting" right? So, couldn't he just be talking about the last thing he said to her?? That just popped into my mind as I was hoping this note was not a goodbye.
Can't wait til next week for Grissom's return!! Although the miniture won't be here until the following week.

Ha. It's so funny how the first page of comments usually disagrees with me completely! If I hate an episode, you guys love it! And this is why we chat. You guys have opened my eyes so many times.
Guess I should read my Shakespeare. With only a few words/phrases you could pick up it was a sonnet, Sonnet. You are a true scholar my friend.
You may be right about Keppler and the girl's death just affecting him greatly. I'm thinking about when Keppler was in Gil's office and he mentioned that people like that, turn out to be serial killers. Maybe that's a hint about himself. Either way, if next week is Keppler's last episode, hopefully they just wrap the story up completely and not drag little bits throughout the season.

I love this episode, it was classic CSI. I will admit I've seen a similer story line but the execution was really nice. Plus I liked seeing more of the team that I was afraid had gotten lost in Catherines shadow in the last few episodes.
I love our bugman in love, he's so awkward and cute. It's added a nice dimension to him.

I guess that's 2 weeks in a row I disagree with you..This was a very well written, well-acted show. Keppler is just out and out creepy, and I would bet my lunch money that he is a serial or wanna-be serial killer-in Baltimore or Philly!
I thought the interactions Sara had with Jesse were spot on....Jorja Fox's eyes just tell you everything without a word, so the "mother" angle was so telling. Nice moment with Nick and Keppler, before Mr Creepy returned to form. I too can hardly wait for Grissom to return, if only to catch this guy!

I didn't like the show in whole, but I liked it in parts. The body parts skanked me out, there were so many things happening at once I couldn't figure out the connection, didn't think the dead woman had to be a part of it and never zoned in to her being Jesse's mom, thought Keppler (and it was his name at the end sotto voice - sp?) was somehow involved with Amy's death - not directly - but that maybe he felt he could have stopped it and didn't - and as for GIL I thought he was writing a letter to Sarah saying he'll miss her WHEN he was leaving or rather had just left, not that it was a goodbye note, but from the look on his face didn't think he'd mail it, and finally was surprised to see the promos for him in next week's show because that threw off my thoughts about his letter. So I don't know what's going on and I LIKE IT THAT WAY. Welcome back Gil, can't wait until next week - Keppler who?

Well I liked this ep more than last weeks. Grissom!!! It was nice to see him. It made my night. I love Billy, but does anyone else think that his age is starting to show?

Boy, Keppler's intimation that Grissom was kind of creepy did NOT sit well with Sara! I loved how she gave the office a once over just to make sure he hadn't touched anything. And she put the cocoon in the tank in Gil's office. Awwww. But the pile of mail on the desk! Don't other law enforcement agencies call on Grissom for his bug expertise? I hope none of those envelopes contain samples of anything. Ick.
At first I thought the "I'll miss you." was a part of the note, but then I started to think... The note was about their "parting" right? So, couldn't he just be talking about the last thing he said to her?? That just popped into my mind as I was hoping this note was not a goodbye. -- JFfan07
I'm hoping you're right. I was amazed at how romantic the letter was. It took my breath away. Then that last part got me worried that he might have decided not to come back to Vegas. I love the other CSIs but I don't think I could handle a permanent absence of Grissom.
Oh, the actual episode. Yeah, the body part thing's been done, most notably on Bones. But, face it, there are only so many crimes that can be committed. Should we complain because they're doing another murder or theft or rape or kidnapping on a crime show? Please. It's all in the execution, dahling. Having said that, I'll say that the execution wasn't too great here. Two reasons: 1) Bones knocked it out of the park with the FBI guy's preteen daughter getting a death sentence from, if I remember correctly, a bone replacement. All she ever wanted was to be an artist and visit the Louvre so Angela brought it to her as a dying gift. 2) This storyline seems more effective if you show the consequences of the crime. A handful of folders showing people have died from receiving diseased body parts just isn't that compelling.
Finally, I really don't like Keppler. I only vaguely recognize Liev Schreiber (by name more than face) so have nothing against the actor. It's the character. Creeeeepy. Makes me want to take a shower afterward. Although it was priceless to see the look on his face when that umbrella opened. lol
