The Messiest Home In America Special

I could find no other message board anywhere for this show, so guess I will post about it here.

Boy and was it the messiest home ever! That family had every inch of space in that good size home covered in foolishness, mayhem and whatnot!

I enjoyed watching this episode. I thought the cast was at their best and the clutter at its absolute worst.

Mark Brunetz is nothing short of a decorating/design genius. He did miracles with what he had to work with. The homeowners were determined to still hold on to so much that he had to work around that god-awful coat of arms and coffee table. If they hadn't kept so much, the basement would've been much better for them.
Mark kept everything elegant and simple. I think if he had gotten too far away from what was originally there, the mom (Sue?) would've had an absolute fit and hated everything. Although I personally would've loved to see a more extreme transformation.

Mark gets my vote for the best line of the program:
"Doing this house is like putting lipstick on a pig." ROFL!

I particularly loved Niecy laying down the law as only she could. It was discovered these women were determined to hold on to two entire tent worth's of junk and clutter. On top of that, they were going out to the yard sale and picking out what they still felt they didn't want to let go of! Niecy put the smack down on that nonsense but good. She basically told them they had to let go of one tent full of stuff. That it WOULD be sold in the yard sale. If they didn't like it and were caught trying to take anything else back, the Clean House crew would pack up and leave. End of story. Way to go Niecy!

These women needed much more than Niecy, a designer and an organizer though. They need a therapist! Good grief! Did they not realize the clean slate opportunity they were given in winning this contest? As it was expressed in the show, they weren't able to receive all that was offered to them because they simply would not let go of everything. Mom definitely had a verifiable sickness and the daughters were following directly in her footsteps. I know a lot of it had emotionally to do with the loss of her husband so she accumulated things and didn't want to lose them too.

At the end, I am still not convinced any of these women sincerely "got it". They seemed so grateful for the beautiful transformation of their home, no doubt. However, I believe if you went back to that home today it would be right back in the state it was before or worse if that is possible. I think they were all still in a huge constant state of denial about their clutter disease and the root causes that got their house in that condition to begin with.

I really hope there is a revisit/follow up to this episode and household. I pray it will prove me wrong.

I thought these woman were ridiculous. Here they win this fabulous opportunity and then waste it. And no doubt in my mind, they will never touch those boxes in the basement, they'll just accumulate more. I know they make some dramatics for tv purposes, but i think alot of their foolishness was real. And what's up with daughters that old livin' with mom. I agree that some serious therapy needs to occur in this family. I too hope they do a follow up show cause I want to see what this place looks like in say a year.

The Messiest Home in America is a great show! I agree with your comments that the woman and her daughters are in total denial.

Calendars from 2002? Two tents full of crap to keep? Sheesh, I thought I was a pack rat. Then they try to lie when Niecy confronted them.

One bit I really loved was seeing Mark with the winners of the second messiest home. How cool was that! The wife hugged him twice. :) That couple was so pleased with their home, much more so than the woman and her daughters.

Clean House Rules! :)

Here I go.

Just finished watching Messiest House episode. Mom is definitely suffering from some kind of disorder that started way before her husband passed. If the things they kept were things that were displayed, maybe it would have made sense but going through all those bins ...........something isn't right. I would love to see a follow up a year from now. If only they knew how blessed they were in having someone do all the work for nothing!!!! Oh well time to go sort out my junk and let go of something........... lol hugs to all

I always enjoy watching Niecy "kick butt" when she's cleaning up a house, but never more than in this episode! The clean house team has dealt with some pretty whiny, immature, selfish, clueless homeowners, but Sue was the most truly obnoxious person who's ever graced the show. Her smug, greedy attitude, and refusal to cooperate with the team were unbelievable. Not a shred of gratitude from Sue; she behaved as if the team had stolen the 5 dumpster loads of worthless trash that was spread all over her home.

Kudos to the team, and especially Niecy, for hanging in there. All of them are up for sainthood in my book!

Sounds like you have a real understanding of the OCD problem of your possessions owning you instead of the other way around! Believe me, I do, too. My mother was one of the worst!

Clean House is one of my guilty pleasures. I always have a couple of episodes recorded, even if they're repeats. Niecy Nash is super, and the show is a success mainly because of her. Mark Brunetz is also a genius as well. Both Niecy and Mark have had to deal with some very stubborn people, including the winners of The Messiest Home In America. It was so hard watching the mother on that show and seeing her mental problems so clearly right in front of us. The Clean House team did the best they could. I like the other cast members too, but I do miss Linda Coopersmith and watching her do all her organizing, as well as that cute blonde guy who use to be the yard sale guy - Alan something. I don't see the purpose of the "go-to" guy they have on the show now. Trish is okay, but her voice is a little grating at times. Anyway, Clean House is funny to watch, and inspiring as well. People who get to have the Clean House team comes to their homes are VERY lucky. Too bad the mother on The Messiest Home In America didn't appreciate it. I wish they had chosen some other family.

I don't know where to post this either, but i really miss Linda Coopersmith and Alan the yard guy. The new blonde organizer has a voice that gets on my nerves.
I really like the show, but I have noticed that sometimes, when they show clutter, I've seen the same item in two rooms. I think they cheat a little to make sure we are shocked by the condition of the room.
I do really like the show though, just not as much as when Linda and Alan were on it.

Funny how many people are ready to show the world in what mess they are living just to get on TV. LOL

I agree with you. I wonder if the homeowners are told to resist throwing things away. If they really are that reluctant to get rid of stuff, why did they call the show?
