April 8, 2007: Three Parties
Kitty supposedly went to Senator McCallister’s hometown looking for some commentary about how great the senator is from those who knew him first. She also secretly hoped to get some gossip that would be beneficial to her in her role as Robert’s girlfriend. What she found at first was pretty run-of-the-mill: a small town with nothing to do (well, nothing that didn’t involve artichokes) and a high-school sweetheart with generic nice things to say.
But boy was Kitty ever in for a surprise when she found out exactly why Robert meant so much to his high-school girlfriend. I can’t believe Sarah and Kitty went to that keg party to begin with — although maybe that was the artiritas talking. And it did set up a good opportunity for Kitty and Alice to have a real conversation. For a second I thought they might say that Robert was the father of Alice’s high-school-age son. I’m glad they didn’t, as Kitty and Robert’s relationship already has enough soap-opera qualities.
But just when we thought there was nothing but good things to say about Robert, he admitted to Kitty the real reason he’s so touchy about using his war-hero story as part of his campaign: He’s not actually sure what happened, and the "hero" part of the story came from what people believe happened. It was interesting that he revealed that as a response to Kitty telling him she was falling in love with him. I guess for Robert, the best way to show Kitty he loved her in return was to share his most important secret.
And it looks like Robert might not be the only one hiding something. Last week Rebecca came off as very grounded, and she seemed to be handling the news about her new family as well as possible. This week it appeared that she might not be quite what she seems, if her behavior at the party was any indication. Talk about an awful first post-rehab party for Justin, having to see his own worrisome tendencies appear in his sister.
Continuing with the revealing-of-secrets theme, Chad finally decided he was tired of living a double life and came out via a letter posted on his website. Who would have thought that would turn out to be the end of Chad and Kevin? Maybe Chad is right and he does need to figure this out by himself.
Finally, it seems that things are going to develop further for Nora and her English professor, although I’m not sure if altering her dress was the best first-date approach. Taking Emily’s advice never seems to be a good idea, as evidenced by Kevin and Justin’s somewhat appalled reactions to Nora’s new look. My favorite lighter moment of the night came when Nora suggested that she make scrambled eggs for Kevin and Justin to help them recover from their stressful situations. It was sort of cute how excited they got.

So, I lived in Castroville. Their Castroville is much nicer. Also...I'm not sure where these spas and wineries are. Those are in Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur, Santa Cruz. Castroville is a road with farm land on either side. Yes, the town does close down essentially for the festival (the festival may be kind of lame, but mmmmm....the food was darn good!) but that wouldn't have stopped their fun. About 15 mintues down highway 1 and they would have been immersed in spa-city! It was funny to watch it, nonetheless. I love when they put Monterey area towns on TV.

I really enjoyed this episode. There was no weak spot in the whole episode. The look on the Walker Sisters faces when the cutie from the bar admitted he goes to HIGH SCHOOL was priceless! LOL The artichoke festival and the whole town brought back some fond (and not so fond) memories of growing up in Michigan, where Asparagus ruled the town. Yes, including an Asparagus Festival, and the crowning of Mrs. Asparagus.

I am not ready to give this an Emmy just yet. Since Robert is a Republican I was truly shocked when A) Her and her sister didn't get busted by a raid and her arrest throw water on the impending candidacy, and when that didn't happen that Sarah's date wasn't Robert's "Love Child." That still may happen. Can't let a good GOP guy go unscathed.
This family is so screwed up it must be the amalgamation of 15 or 20 families. It is about as unreal as the RICHES, yet I watch because my wife is tired of the crime shows on NBC. When will someone start dating inter-racially? Or when will they convert to Islam? We've already had 'white-collar' crime so they will have to come up with a different criminal element to pursue. We have a gay son, but no lesbians or transgendered. Kitty's book tour will bring new life when things drag.
Really this show is good escapism and I just hope no one looks to this family as any kind of model except for acceptance without but a little attempt to help when conforming to any kind of societal models.
Enough here is something off the wall and unrelated. On the Roserum commercial what is the significane of the Deep sea diver?

I love this show! I do agree that it was a bit unrealistic for Kitty and Sara to walk away from that party without incident. Loved Justin and Rebecca together, they have more in common than they realized. The previews for next week's game night looked good. Also, it seems Rebecca and Sara's husband, Joe have met before. Could Rebecca be more like her mother than she knows?

The take I got on the scene between Sara's husband and Rebecca is that she may be thinking of getting back at Sara for hurting her (telling her about their father) by going after her husband...maybe not go as far as to sleep with him (though that shouldn't be ruled out) but if she sees there are obviously problems in the marriage, she may try to cause even more problems - payback can be a bitch, after all...
I just cannot stand Kevin - he annoys me in every scene.
Sara and Kitty at the bar were funny, and then at the keg party - loved the comment about "Sesame Street"...and Kitty drunkenly commenting on "what kind of a name is 'Alice'?" with a return comment (from the senator, I think) "well, what about 'Kitty'?"...and Sara SO does have it over Kitty when it comes to outdrinking her...she's such a booze bag!

This whole episode was a disappointment! From Kitty and Sarah going to a keg party to the silliness of Kitty baiting the high school sweetheart. The absolute worst though, is Margot Kidder. What are they thinking? She looks like she has a bad set of dentures and her "acting" is abysmal. I find it impossible to buy that Nora would be dumb enough to cut off her dress and go for the super slut look. Not in character at all. And I agree, Kevin is just irritating. Surely hope this episode was an abberation.

I was half-disappointed, half-pleased by this episode. Mostly, I don't think I like the direction the show is taking. I just got an uneasy feeling when the show ended with him stumping instead of a shot of the family together or at least a few of the Walkers together. I don't want to see Rob Lowe try to reclaim the West Wing through this show like I feel they are doing. This Kitty-Senator relationship is just derailing the show for me.
I thought Margot Kidder was hilarious and I hope she continues to come back as Nora's wild and adventurous friend. I really like Peter Coyote as her professor and hope that they pursue that relationship further. I am so tired of Kevin and Chad's relationship. That was the longest six-episode arc in the history of television, it just dragged on forever. I'm so glad it's over. The scene with Kevin, Justin and Nora commiserating was great though. And I actually did enjoy the bar scene, pretty much all the scenes, between Kitty and Sarah. It was fun to see the two of them together and Brenda Griffiths has great comic timing and her little drunken mumblings cracked me up.
I'm looking forward to next week's show though. Maybe Tommy, the invisible brother, will show up again and it looks like the whole family will be interacting, which is always my favorite part of the show.

Regarding Rebecca and Joe in the preview for next week's show, TV Guide's own Ausiello gave us this hint:
Question: Any Brothers & Sisters scoop?— Ali Ausiello: You think Rebecca's the black sheep of the family now? Just wait until late April when an explosive secret concerning her and a fellow Walker is revealed. Personally, I can't believe Baitz and Berlanti are going there, but I love that they are.

Can we please mark comments about the previews as spoilers, please? Thank you.
I knew no good could possibly come from Lois Lane giving fashion advice to Sister Bertrille. Seriously Nora, what were you thinking? That tailoring wasn't appropriate for someone 30 yrs. your junior. Not for that occasion, anyway.
Looks like the new sis is really gonna be a litmus test for Justin's recovery.
Does anybody know the song that was playing when Justin was going all Mike Tyson on Party Boy?

This episode was better than your average drama, but this and the last one show one of its major weaknesses. This show always goes flat when one of the characters suddenly becomes "sitcom stupid". Last week it was Kevin wanting a hair off Rebecca's head; this week it was Kitty being uncharacteristically unprofessional with Alice, and then Nora listening to Emily's advice (after it's a bad idea the second time, it's time to stop heeding her suggestions) and slutting up for the party. I know their lives are more dramatic than most, but they're supposed to be closer to an "average" upper class family, so can we have them behave a little more rationally?
inlo1, your political insight was absolutely enlightening. Obviously, the idea that there are good and bad people on both sides of the aisle is completely foreign to you.

Well, I thought the ep was pretty darn funny. The only thing that worries me is the preview with Rebecca & Joe. Not liking it one single IOTA!!! And that's not a spoiler either. It's what was shown on TV yesterday.
Living in NYC, I can't even imagine a town that closes for an 'artichoke festival' much less any other fruit or vegetable. I would've died of boredom, and those artiritas looked kinda watered down, but that's just me. I thought Kitty & Sarah were hilariously funny, although I did want to slap Kitty when she went 'off' on Alice. I wanted to channel Cher and say "Snap out of it"! LOL!
Am I the only one who likes Kevin? I really do! Is he neurotic? Mos def! But that's what makes Kevin, well, Kevin! The Kevin, Nora, Justin scene was priceless! Their faces when Nora walked in was hilarious!! LOL!
And for God sake Ms. Margo Kidder, lose the HUGE glasses!! Sally Field looks amazing, glam it up girl! Note to Nora: you're not in high school anymore, stop following Emily's "advice". It's gotten her in hot water on more than one ocassion.
Looking forward to next week!

Mary Kate, I totally related to Kevin and J's giddiness over their mom's scrambled egg meal. I get the same way when my mom makes her famous scrambled eggs...full of butter, milk, cheese, and mystery spices. YUM!
Fantasy over.
Great blog. Great ep. I actually cried real tears when The Senator confessed to Kitty.
I love this show more each week.
