« What About Brian
October 16, 2006: Happy New Year, Best Friend
I feel like this entire episode was Brian staring into his past and running from place to place with weird music orchestrating every move.
And with every move came a slip elsewhere. Let's start with Dave. He may not be smooth, but he really tries. Deena really frustrates me, conjuring up excuses that push her husband further and further away. Enter Suzanne (Marguerite Moreau). At least she knows a good thing when it's in front of her. (Scratch that, Deena does know she has a good thing, she just won't act on it.) But even though Suzanne's back for more Dave lovin', I'm not convinced this little affair will last very long.
Slip No. 2: Angelo (Raoul Bova). Looks like he's gone for good, leaving Nicole with a broken heart and a baby to raise.
Slip No. 3: Marjorie lying to Adam... again. Clearly not the best way to start a marriage. Even more clear, an obvious blaring alarm when the bride is so wrapped up in her conflicting thoughts, she can't even make toast.
I did, however, like the flashbacks of the New Year's Eve party. We finally got to see how Adam and Marjorie came together, how Brian really does wait until it's too late to act on something and how serious Adam really was about their friendship.
In the past and the present, he's definitely not the type of guy who's afraid to share what he's feeling. Adam is all kinds of mushy in this episode.... Telling Dave how nice his eyes are and how much he means to him, hugging, bowtie assistance... it's all very 7th Heaven, if you ask me, but I'll let it go for the sake of easy-watching TV drama.
In the end, it's the classic stop-the-wedding TV sequence... Brian running at the last minute, catching Marjorie right as she's about to walk down the aisle, getting turned down and then eyed down by the groom. And most important in this typical wedding scenario: The bride goes missing. Damn it, Brian! Look what you've done. Honestly, did any of us think vows would actually be uttered in this episode? How else would the show go on? The question is, how much further can this story line be stretched? All I know is, I see a lot of punches being thrown in the near future.

I LOVE THIS SHOW!! I've been so dissapointed w/ The Bachelor and I'm glad there's still quality programming on Monday nites
Anywho how...I thought Marjorie would make it to the altar and then have second thoughts and not go thru w/ it. But I've 4gotten the oh so dramatic missing bride at the beginning of the aisle. I still thought that she was in a corner and would pop out haha...but she didnt.
I'm also wondering how this is going to play out. I mean a whole season of Brian pining over Marjorie again? (I assume thats what last season was about lol)
Poor Dave..but is it bad that I feel for Brian more than for him. There's sumthin sketchy about Dave I dunno..but I like the sincerity of Brian even more. I wonder if Bri and Marj did get together..if it would be one of those relationships that worked better when they're not together. Does that makes sense haha.

Are we to truly believe Adam didnt hook up with Summer? He wasn't all too convincing to me.

They should bring back Angelo; he was a very likable character and a good mesh with Rosanna Arquette. Given where he was at the end of last season, I wouldn't buy him ditching her once he found out she was pregnant.

I really do like this show but I have no clue where it's going. Brian and Adam's relationship is ruined. The three of them can't be around each other, one of them has to go. I'm sad too that they let Angelo go, stupid move by ABC. Dave and Deena...where are they going? Sounds like there is going to be more infidelity coming.
Can they please clean up Brian??????

I just can't buy that Marjorie's a doctor. I wish they'd made her something else because she's about as doctorish as your average model. Anyway, I like this show but have no idea where they're going to go with it, since it's all centered around this Brian/Marjorie thing and how long can that go on? I'll keep watching, though, since there's nothing else on on Monday nights worth watching.

I agree, I wish they would clean up Brian too. Have him shave, get a haircut. something.
And this whole thing Adam saying nothing happened with Summer. Yeah right. He's a lawyer and they know how to lie and keep a straight face. He slept with her.
And that whole New Years thing with Brian and Adam and Marjorie? Adam really isn't much of a friend is he. I mean, Brian saw her first, and when he wasn't looking Adam swooped in. Not much of a friend.
And the time line of the show still throws me for a loop. Nicole left Brians to pick up the viel then go to the wedding. Brian day dreamed for second then had to RACE to the wedding like he only had ten minutes before it started?? Yet Nicole had time to drive to the dress shop, bicker about the viel, drive to the church, get dressed, give the veil to Marjorie. Doesn't make sense.

I don't think I like the direction the show is going in - it's getting all serious, no humor. I think the best episode last year was when Brian put on the dinosaur suit for Dave's daughter's birthday and was upstairs screaming at his friends how mature he was. Angelo also brought the funny and apparently he's gone.
That's what I don't like - it looks like they dropped all the funny. Now it's just a series of tragedies - pregnant woman abandoned, married couple in trouble, engaged couple break up. I'm not interested if that's all they're going to do.

I made ample use of the FF button during those driving/running sequences.

I think you all have it wrong. First of all, its the 2nd episode...it has more time to get funny. They are just reeling from what happened in last years season finale. Also, I am glad Angelo is gone. He seemed like dead weight to me with an annoying accent. It is kind of a played out storyline...but what TV show nowadays doesn't have one of those?

Angelo leaving her just doesn't make sense. They did a bad job with that one.

I too am glad Angelo's gone. Frees up Rosanne Arquette to do some really wonderful stuff as a single mom and dating again.
