March 26, 2007: I Love Ivy Day
Wow. What a finale. I truly hope this isn't the end of this show, but if that is its fate, I applaud ABC for a touching end that combined this drama's finest elements: humor, jealousy, confusion, sincerity and truth. The last group scene was all we could ask for, and with Brian at Laura's door, we can only assume those renewed vows made him think enough to get it right for once. If we never see Brian and his friends again, I'd like to think the thirtysomething love failure learned enough lessons along the way to settle into the perfect nook.
And I think we owe it all to Dave and Deena. Their journey this week was pretty hectic, but classic in terms of a Brian situation. But when Dave gave that little speech about going back in time and finding those people they used to be, the cows seemed to agree. And apparently a roll in the grass confirmed their craziness when they were yelling out their love for no one to hear.
Back in the real world, "whoever wakes up Uncle Brian is grounded forever." I think seeing Bri dressed up as Pretty, Pretty Princess was one of my favorite moments this season. But Nasty Natty doesn't want to play. (That's right, I renamed her.) Be a little kind to the children, will you? You had to know Supernanny Adam would show up in this awkward situation, especially after the guys' pact about dating within their circle. Did anyone else love watching the guys take care of the kids? What was better was when Laura showed up (I pretty much have nothing to say about Stephanie). Not only did we get to see the calm, likable person she is, but she pretty much handed it to Natasha. Plus, let out that little Nic secret that apparently everyone didn't know about. Adam definitely knew how to twist things around to make Natasha crumble.
And it was a good thing he showed up at the cupcake shop with his "no crying in baking" jokes. What a disaster! Frosting everywhere, angry customers. And let's not forget it was Ivy Day. Kind of. "I hate people. I hate cupcakes. I hate sprinkles."
As for me, I could almost sense the sadness these actors might have been feeling while shooting this finale. If you looked closely enough, it's almost as if Barry Watson was saying goodbye with every scene — we got a very serious side of Brian tonight, and I think that transfers over into the idea of letting this show go. Still, I loved Adam's games, Dave's sensitivity, Jimmy adorned in a messy apron and Brian piecing together his life. Thanks for changing my mind, ABC. I wasn't so sure I'd latch on in the beginning, but I might feel a little emptiness on Monday nights now. Maybe I'll fill my 10 pm hour with cupcakes. And piles of sprinkles.

So "What About Brian" may not be returning? I hate that. I like this show, with all it's soapy deliciousness and characters you can hate one minute and love the next. I want to know what happens with Brian and that nice girl, and if Nic and Adam have a shot, or is he going to be with Nasty what's her name. And I love Ivy and Jimmy! They were perfect additions to the show. Please don't let it get canceled!!
Anyways, tonight's eposide was great. I loved the little face off between Nicole and Nasty woman. I loved Adam being goofy and fun. I totally loved the whole beginning where Jimmy tells Brian to think of Adam as someone else. And I loved that Dave and Deena wanted to have all their friends there. I hope that we find that Brian breaks it off with Stephanie (useless waste of character space and I really dislike that actress, too) and gets together with that cute quiet girl. And I'd love to see Adam and Nicole together.

Megan, great summary.
The episode did have a feeling of closure - whether the writers know the show isn't returning or not. I hope it does come back - it has slowly been finding an audience - and ABC has stayed with it so far! I was disappointd that its renewal wasn't announced when some others were, however, so that doesn't bode well.
If it doesn't return, as you noted, the show ended on a nice note - and still left the door open for another season....

I too hope this show doesn'tget cancelled but if it does the finale was a good one. For a little bit I was cursing Brian under my breath thinkinh he was going to stay with Stephanie but when he showed up at Laura's door at the end I almost cried. I hope this means Brian is growing up and looking beyond the "good-time-girls like Stephanie! This show has beocme one of my fves and I will miss it if it is cancelled. The show has improved so much learning from it's "mistakes" and losing the characters that didn't work(although I did like heather)like Marjorie especially and adding Jimmy & Ivy great additions to the show the mostly stable married couple to provide contrast to Dave & Deena the troubled couple, Nic the widow, Brian the and adam the single guys Laura was a great addition too . I hope ABC renews Brian.

I like this show and I think it would be a shame to cancel it. Are the ratings really so bad? My mother got me to watch this show and it grew on me. I hope ABC gives it another chance!

I don't think this show ever lived up to its potential, especially after they revamped the show. I don't find myself caring one way or the other about it coming back, although it is/was entertaining.
The chemistry between the cast kept it afloat this long, and this one separated everyone a little too much. I HATED the cupcake sub-plot (what, this early in the store's life, Deena wouldn't have gotten a temp?) since it went into sub-standard sitcom mode with Nicole running around by herself. The Dave and Deena sub-plot redeemed it though, especially with the Druish priestess (funny - she didn't look Druish!) in her two scenes.
If this show comes back and the writers up their game, I think it can be successful. However, I saw today that Amanda Detmer is in another pilot, and with the dramas that ABC has in the pipeline (Grey 2.0), I think it's a goner. At least most of the stuff got resolved.

I thought last night's show was good. Even though I came in watching this show about a month ago, I find it a very good show and hope it comes back. If they do put Brian and Laura together, I hope they still keep Stephanie around. I really enjoy her character as well as the actress that plays her. If not, I hope she winds up on another show. For someone who just started in the industry, I think she does a good job at acting and I have seen her in other shows as well. Does anyone know when we will find out whether or not the show comes back next season?

I've really grown to love this show too. If you choose to you can go to E!online's Watch With Kristin "Save One Show Poll" and vote once every day or so until April 6th. I think they should have given this a chance in the spot after the Dancing With the Stars' instead of another STUPID Bachelor show!!!!!!!!!

I will be sad and will miss this show if it doesn't come back for a third season. However, saying that, I thought lastnights show was perfect. He ended everything in a great spot. You basically know where everyone is at...with no major cliff hangers that might possibly never be answered. So, this was good.

I truly hope this is not the end for Brian and company, I have really come to look forward to my weekly fix. This is really a much beter show then it is given credit for, it's sorta Friends and sorta Thirtysomething, but it has no buzz and no backing from the network even though it is owned by the network. Maybe the stars need to go the talk show root and really start selling like the Designing Women did once upon a time, they manged to save thir show when it wasn't doing well.
