« What About Brian
March 12, 2007: Sex and Secrets
It was very hard for me to watch Brian dig into chocolate ice cream and chocolate brownies, seeing as how I recently gave up chocolate… temporarily.
Can we just talk about Dave wearing that apron? Hilarious, sexy, cuddly? Take your pick. Just when he's getting his groove back, he sees Deena's Richard at the kids' school and then learns about Brian's promotion. Tough day?
How perfect was Meredith Baxter as Deena's mother, though? I had a few Family Ties flashbacks — all that wise advice she gave Mallory, all those sentimental moments in the kitchen, let's take a moment to remind ourselves that Elyse Keaton does know her way around domestic troubles — but she's hilarious as this older mom, sweeping in like a hurricane, blurting things out. "Are you two having sexual intercourse?" My god, woman! She's still getting in the way of love — nothing like sending your grown daughter to bed in a nightie and her husband to his own room at the opposite end of the house. But she really crossed the line by bringing Mark (Tyrone Giordano) into the picture and meddling with their relationship. (By the way, Tyrone, loved your work in The Family Stone.) I guess that's what mothers do, though, and obviously she doesn't want her daughter to get hurt, but does she know that Deena caused the separation in the first place? I was so proud of Deena when she told her mom the truth, and the signing was a great addition to the conversation — it almost made it stronger than her shaky voice and bold words. At least that secret's out (and I'm pretty sure Nicole picked up on them dating again when she saw them at the restaurant).
Speaking of Nicole, I'm glad getting it on with Adam was just a one-time thing (I think), because Natasha seems to suit him better, even though that can't last too long considering Tiffani Thiessen is a guest star. Adam's face was priceless when Ivy was going on about Nic's little rendezvous. Being "nothing special" wasn't exactly what he wanted to hear, and things seemed messy all around for him this week, but at least he heard the truth about his skills in the sack from Nicole herself later on. So, secret no. 2 is floating around now, too, and I'm pretty sure Ivy isn't the safest mouth to hold in that information.
Brian's stepping into secrets without meaning to, poor guy. Let's start with his neighborly favor. Leave it to sneaky little Stephanie to butt in on his plans with Laura. I guess her legs can't be denied, but I think he would have enjoyed a Clippers game more than feeling uncomfortable on the red carpet. Although he didn't seem that uncomfortable sucking face with Steph, but I saw the red flag before it even happened. Uhhh… hey Brian? Red carpet, cameras, Laura does have eyes. I'm guessing their relationship will slowly build, now that most of us are onto the idea of them eventually getting together (since she's in the opening credits and all). Stephanie must be a little test for our love-torn friend.
As for his other secret that I mentioned earlier, Dave was a trooper about having Brian as his boss. I'm not sure whose side to be on, because Dave is in a crappy spot, but Brian didn't ask for the position, either. I'm glad they came together in the end, putting Nat in her place and proving that they do work well together. She's still walking around with a power trip, though.
But by far the best secret of all, my favorite part of this entire episode of sexy romps and traveling whispers, was Ivy's past. The fact that she was Little Tammy and living off her childhood royalties is such a brilliant twist — I love when Ivy's embarrassed, because the tough girl fades away and she can't do anything about it. She's such a spaz and it's a refreshing tangent from the other women. By the way, did anyone else notice that the cardboard cutout said "TV Source" on it and looked very similar to a certain brand we know and love?
I definitely liked this episode because things are moving forward with delicious bites here and there — pancake family breakfasts, friendly neighbors, gigantic mansions, office sexcapades. Keep it up, ABC.

Tiffani Theissen is actually on the beginning credits now so would she still be considered a guest star? I don't understand why no one is watching the best show on television on Monday nights! Love every character and the writing is so fantastic. Every character is refreshing and gorgeous. Can't wait for next week......

Another awesome show last night. Loved the little twist that Jimmy and Ivy are really, really rich!!! Deena last night was the best's she's been in a such a long time. Her and Dave are great together.
I noticed too that Tiffiani is in the opening credits. I hope that means that she'll be sticking around for a long, long time. Her and Adam have awesome chemistry.
What I don't get is that Stephanie held up a pretty black dress and a smokin hot red dress and when it's finally time to walk the red carpet, she shows up in that ugly organy red cut-out shoulder dress....UGH!
Anyway, I can't wait for next week's show! I hope that more people catch onto this awesome show!

I love this show!! I can only get better from here now that Bridget is gone!!! Don't like the actress, didn't like the character. (sorry to those who disagree) I think Brian and Laura suit each other and will make a great couple. IMHO

I agree with all the posters above. This show has grown so much and I love it even more then I did before. It was a good show that has grown into a great one. Its found a fantastic cast. Tiffani Theissen needs to stay permanently she adds so much and her and adam are great together. Deena was finally likable last night. This show manages to strike the balence between comedy and drama that is so hard. Loved the Ivy revelation last night too. Its great to have Amanda Foreman as a regular now too. Brian is so oblivious. Stephanie maybe pretty but Laura is the one for him, and if don't want her i'll take her. lol. She is sweet, funny, and beautiful. So much better than bitchy bridget. Please don't cancel this show abc. Its the best thing on monday nights at this point.

I've seen the ratings for the show and they don't look good. I can't understand it. This is the best show out there, hands down. There's not a character on here that doesn't hold my interest. They should have put it after Grey's Anatomy or Desperate Housewives to give it a shot. I sure hope they don't cancel it. Please ABC!!!

I'm completely traumatized by the fact that the season finale is only two weeks away because I love this show! As much as I love Brian, they should call this show "What About Dave and Deena". I love the way their relationship has slowly gotten back on track. I love how real Dave seems. I was glad that Deena stood up to her Mom where he was concerned, because when he was leaving to go to the party and told her what her mother had said, he seemed SO hurt. He really did have a crappy day. I loved that she was signing when she told her mom to get out and that she wanted it to work with Dave. I think her voice naturally makes her seem weak and vulnerable and she was so upset she could hardly get the words out. Since her mom seemed to respect the signing so much, it was like speaking to her in a language she appreciated. So I loved that. And I LOVE that Ivy is a formal child star. Too hilarious - especially since she seems so alternative and down to earth. Never would have guessed their house looked anything like that and the fact that she was concerned about being embarrassed in front of their friends for that was too funny. I hope this show is back next season because I literally spend all week looking forward to Monday nights.

I love What About Brian!! This episode was especially great. They manage to convey hurt and pain as real feelings, not just part of the story. I love the humor, too! Perfect balance. I like that Dave and Deena are slowly getting back together. I like Ivy and Jimmy more each week, and thank god Adam doesn't have Summer around any more! Now if we can just get rid of Stephanie. Seriously, ABC-keep this show on!

I must be masochistic (sp) to watch this show. It's got "cancelled" written all over it. I'm losing so many of my favs this year. I've come to love this show and it's circle of friends. It is funny and warm and sexy all at the same time.

I enjoy this show. I just wish Brian would wash or comb or do something with his hair. The only thing that bother me was how easy Brian has gotten over Bridget. I like her. I really really do not like Stephanie - she really is not very nice to her friend. I love all the people on this show. What every happen to Dr. that Adam was going to marry - she just has dissapeared. I mean Deena turned to her when her child is sick and now she is just gone. I was one of the people that like Adam with his wife and miss the character.

I don't understand why people aren't watching this show. It doesn't go up against anything on Monday night. The only thing that is on is the news and NBCs new show the black donnelys. I don't get it.
Another great episode tonight. I am so glad that Deena stoof up for Dave. They are so great together. I wish Brian would open his eyes and see that Laura is so into him. And that she is perfect for him. I liked Adam this episdoe. He was quite funny. Jimmy and Ivy are perfect. I love them. A child star! Too funny. What a house. My question though - if Ivy was so worried about people finding out - why didn't they move all of that stuff to an upstairs room? haha I liked Bridget when she was with Brian, but tonight, surprisingly enough I didn't miss her. I don't like Stephanie. She's not a good friend to Laura. I don't like the way she came onto Brian when he was still with Bridget. I hope Brian stays clear of her.

i love this show too. but i could live without ever hearing their "hey jimmy" joke/line again. for some reason, that just bugs me.
but i love jimmy and ivy and think they were a great addition to the show. it feels like it is still finding its feet and is just now coming into its own, has the right cast, the right storylines. so i sure hope ABC keeps it on and lets it grow!
