Episode Recap: "Meet the Black Team"

A big congratulations to everyone on the black team who felt so rejected last week and came back strong by losing the most weight of the week. Jillian looked so excited she was about to burst, and her team certainly deserved that win after those crazy workouts she put them through!

It was fantastic seeing the blue and red teams' reactions when they saw the black team waiting in the weigh-in room, although I have to wonder if Bob and Kim really didn't know about that twist. Bob seemed genuinely excited and surprised when he picked up Jillian for a hug, but I just question how "real" reality shows are done. Regardless, it's fun to watch all three teams compete face-to-face now, and it should be interesting to see how the challenges will play out.

Who knew it would take 8,000 jumping jacks to burn off a pint of ice cream? And that a 22-ounce milkshake had more calories than a double bacon cheeseburger? I certainly enjoyed the trivia going out of commercial breaks and all the healthy eating tips the trainers provide. You gotta love a show that entertains and educates.

And occasionally makes you cry. I knew it was bound to happen soon enough. For me it was the moment that Patty broke down in tears when she completed her workout and Bob kept repeating, "How proud are you? How proud are you?" It's just amazing to see how good people can feel about themselves when they push themselves and to see how much support they get. I also thought it was really sweet of Bob to sit down with Amy, who wasn’t even on his team, and encourage her to keep going. While Kim and Jillian have more of a tougher mental approach in their workout regimens (like Jillian yelling "kick her hard and make her cry!"), it's really nice to know all three of the trainers truly care about these contestants.

When it came down to sending home a member of the losing red team for the second week in a row, I'm surprised no one voted for Amy, who had a bit of a bad attitude in the gym and even walked out on the last-chance workout. It's always sad to see someone go when they haven't reached their goals yet, but I'm happy to hear Lezlye continued her success and lost 55 pounds at home.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your personal weight-loss stories and to all the other comments about the show. Keep them coming!

I really wanted Amy to be sent home last night. When she hugged Lezlye after the vote, I could see the knife blade being stuck in Lezlye's back. I am glad Lezlye did so well after going home and I'm glad she is getting over the Katrina losses she suffered.

I loved that the Black team totally ruled the weigh in. I was surprised, though, that Alison announced that the Red team was the loser before the Black team had weighed their last player. I know that the actual weigh in is done beforehand on an official scale and what we see is the players actually finding out how much they lost, but if the last member of the Black team had gained a few pounds instead of losing weight, the Red team could have been in second. It took the surprise out of the last weigh in.

I'd like to see the Red team really step it up next week but with Amy's attitude, I'm afraid they will suffer another loss.

I wish they had had the blue and red teams weigh-in as usual and then when the winning team (in this case, the blue team...at first) started getting really cocky they should have said "You haven't won yet..." then had the black team come in.

Having them stand (all pissy-like) in the weigh-in room as the other teams came in was really quite anti-climactic. I'm tired of reality shows sucking with surprising the contestants! Like on BB a couple of weeks ago they told the contestants at the beginning of the episode it was a double elimination round. It would have been more shocking if they only had announced that right after someone won HoH.

Anyway, it's so early in the game yet that I don't really care who goes home. But it is nice to see that those who are kicked off are losing a lot of weight on their own. I don't know if the numbers for those contestants kicked out early compare to past seasons. The weight loss seems higher now--but I don't have the weight loss of each contestant memorized so I can't really be sure.

Yeah, I agree with the poster before me I wish the final weigh-in with the black team was more dramatic. I thought Bob's,"Oh, hell no" was too cute for words.

Also, I'm shocked Lezyle was voted off. I really thought it should have been Amy with her walkout, poor attitude with Kim, and backstabbing ways.

In the end, does it really matter which of the last two women on the Red Team goes home first. Amy -- for bailing out on the team during workouts, or Lezyle -- who had the gall to mock Kim behind her back like a spoiled child during the workout.

I also agree that the BL producers are finally doing something smart: offering fun trivia before the commercial breaks. Not that I'm overweight, but I instantly lost my appetite for ice cream last night when I learned that if I had made a shake, I'd be consuming more than 600 calories. Darn you, BL producers! LOL.

Looking forward to see who caves in to temptation.

Definitely enjoying the new season so far. Alison's a cutie! Loving her as the new host. The food facts were also interesting. An average of 200 food decisions a day?? Wow.

It's great that both people that have been voted off so far have been doing so well continuing in the weight loss.

And Jillian had the best comment about the other two trainers..."Barbie and Ken can duke it out..."

I also can't believe that Pam wasn't sent packing. She should have. She has a bad attitude, walked out on training, and is a sneak. There she was making a pact with Lezlye to stick together and then she was throwing Lezlye under the bus when talking with David. Some friend. I expected her to actually name Lezlye as the one to go home to put the finishing touches on her betrayal.

There is no Pam on the red team. Maybe you mean Amy, the only female left on the red team.

I had to tape as I have class Tuesday nights, but I caught the end and saw the red team in the elimination room! Not looking good for red.

I guess a whole team could be eliminated or will they add to the team if it keeps getting decimated?

Do you think the reason for the red team's weigh-in losses have to do with the trainer or the trainees?

oh, cruciatus, you have such an evel streak ;)

but i totally agree, it would have been a much bigger shock to let blue think they won.

i was wondering the same thing, it doesnt even seem possible that the red team can win again, can they? even though a few have a lot to lose, are there enough of them?

i was also completely surprised amy didnt get booted. maybe kim saw the film of lezlye (for the love of god, people, quit with the stupidly spelled names. your name is pronounced lez-lie the way you have it spelled) mocking her. that was pretty nasty, and i'm sure kim was not happy, and could have been enough to get her gone??

Guess I won't be having a milkshake anytime soon. :)
Those food facts are great. I hope they keep up the tips.

I think Amy was working the game; that's the only way she would have stayed in, I think. She flat out walked out of the workout!

I love Bob. He's such a great motivator, and he doesn't have to scream to get his team going. And it's really cool that he talked to Amy, treating her as a person rather than as an opponent. In fact, he may have given Amy the mental lift she needed to stay in the game.

Maurine,

I was wondering the same thing about trainers vs. trainees but I'd have to go with trainees. You saw Kim sitting down with Amy and Lezlye and going over the data from their body buggs and how their activity drops when she's gone. Maybe they are working out, just not doing it effectively but factor in the bad attitude.....

I was so glad when Kim told them to stop whining because I was thinking the same thing. Don't get me wrong - I know it is an incredibly intense and difficult workout and I'm just sitting on my couch watching. Still, anyone who watches the show at all knows what you are in for. There are plenty of people who would be grateful for the opportunity they have.

I was thinking about how loosing team members might make it impossible for the red team to never beat either the blue or the black team, but then I remembered they do it by percentage. So when one person is voted off, the teams total amount of weight goes down and therefore getting a certain percentage isn't any harder than the other teams. Does that make sense?
