Episode 9 Recap

Anyone else find it a bit ironic that this very special green episode of The Biggest Loser featured 132 bags of chips, 456 coffee cups, 300 ice cream containers, 180 pizza boxes and 504 hamburger containers for no use whatsoever? Really, what was the point of all that waste?

Besides that, NBC does deserve some recognition for having this whole "Green Is Universal" campaign and incorporating little ways everyone can help our planet Earth. And what a coincidence that it's the first week of November sweeps. No, I'm kidding, I really do think it's great that they're showing how easy it is to make a difference. Who would have known that you can still work out on a treadmill without even using electricity?

So the big shake-up of the week was when the trios were dissolved and new duos were formed: Nicole and Neil, Ryan and Isabeau, Julie and Bill, Hollie and Bryan, and Kae and Amy. At first I felt bad for Kae getting stuck with Amy, especially after Kae went for a jog while Amy napped on the couch. And you all know I'm not a huge fan of Amy's, but she did bust her butt during the challenge. Maybe she did it to win the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid? Could Allison have said the name of the car a few more times? We get it, thanks!

And it was pretty obvious Julie and Bill were going to end up winning the challenge since they showed Julie saying how badly she wanted to win and how she had to sacrifice so much to be a stay-at-home mom. But it was still very exciting for the two of them to win that prize. I loved when Jillian was begging the Black Team to tell her the prize was immunity.

Speaking of trainers, it was really interesting to see Kim get mad at Bryan for not eating enough. One of the biggest misconceptions people have in losing weight is to cut back on eating, or in some cases stop eating altogether. So I'm glad she was able to remind him that a healthy lifestyle involves a lot of eating, it's just eating the right things that's the tricky part.

A big congratulations to all 10 contestants this week as they each lost at least five pounds or more. It's all been so random each week, with some people losing double digits and some losing only one pound (whether on purpose or not). And it was hard to be happy for only some people seeing results while others were frustrated week after week, so it was refreshing to see huge smiles on everyone's faces. I still found myself mad at Neil and didn't want to root on his 18-pound loss. But it was actually pretty cool to hear he's accomplished what only four contestants in BL history have by losing 100 pounds before going home.

Then again, Neil did vote for his friend and former teammate Ryan, so he's obviously still trying to manipulate the game. So goodbye to Ryan but hello to a great new body! His baby girl was so adorable, and it was so sweet seeing how proud his family was of him. Only nine more to go…

When Amy and Kae were standing next to Julie and Bill waiting to see who had won the cars I had mixed feelings about who I wanted to be the winner. I love Kae and have no hard feeling for Bill but I really don't like Amy or Julie. The way they seemed to feature Julie tonight with little snippets, I thought for sure she was going home.

I was sorry to see Ryan go home but I was glad Isabeau was saved. Ryan's little girl was so cute and the smile see gave the camera was precious. I'm glad to see he has done so well since leaving the ranch.

LOL... Yesterday's episode was the most Ryan has spoken compared with all other episodes combined! That guy is so shy.

I understand what Kim was saying to Brian about eating multiple meals daily, but I was surprised she got mad about it.

Yeah-- wasn't that cool that everyone did well on the scale? While I'm not a fan of Amy's, she's starting to pull much better numbers with Jillian than she did with Kim -- just further evidence indicating who the better trainer is.

I do not like Amy either, but I do not think that her being with Jillian is what is making a difference. I think she was not trying in the beginning so that she would not be seen as a threat and is now in game mode as evident by what she did with Neil the other week. Those two are so shady it should be about the weight loss and I think for them it is about the money.

I was happy for Julie when she won the car.

I still can't believe what a jerk Neil is. How could he vote off Ryan? He'll turn on anyone, and I can't wait till he turns on Nicole. Because she is playing the game just as much as he is.

Ryan looked fantastic at the end! I'm really happy for him. His daughter is beautiful!

I don't necessarily care for Neil, but I don't think he was "playing the game" when he voted for Ryan. Before the vote they said that if there is a tie, the person with the lowest percentage of weight loss that week would go home. I think Neil voted for Ryan because he knew that in the case of a tie Ryan would go home anyway and with the way the groups were he knew Ryan would get at least two votes. When he said who he voted for he said he wanted this person to go home the "honorable way". Or something like that. Meaning, I think, that he didn't want him to have to go home on a tiebreaker.

Neal seems to think he is on Survivor rather than on Biggest Loser. He has a serious Outwit Outlast strategy going. Maybe if he loses enough weight he can qualify to apply for Survivor!

I know that Biggest Loser is a game and that in games nice guys don't always win. But losing weight is a hard hard journey. The contestants wouldn't be on this show if they had not already tried and failed in their real life. To have someone come on this show and trivialize that situation and sabotage their efforts for the sake of winning $250,000 is very sad.

Neal, I wish you well, but go apply for Survivor or Big Brother and leave the rest to their life altering project.

What was the big thing Neil did that was hyped in the promos?

I've never liked Neil. He seems shifty to me. I would have voted him out first chance I got. He should have gone before Jerry.

My mother thinks Ali is gaining weight. She does look a little heavier. I think either she's so busy working on Loser and Days she has no time to exercise or she's pregnant, but I haven't heard that so I'm just guessing.
