Episode 4 Recap

All that anticipation built up from last week to see the huge game-changing twist and we still have no answers. Well, we do know that the campus will be closing, and the dorms, kitchen, and gym will be off-limits, but now what?

It was really touching how building self-confidence seemed to be the running theme tonight. I think it's amazing that the trainers not only teach a healthy lifestyle but also push their contestants to believe in themselves so they can make that change. I mean, anyone can tell you that eating fast food every day isn't going to help you lose weight, but when an overweight person with low self-esteem is forced to say "I'm worth it" over and over, it hits home much harder. That's something that can be applied to anything you want in life: Just believe you can do it, right? I love Biggest Loser for being my guilty-pleasure show but also my feel-good show!

Speaking of the trainers, it's also fun to see Bob, Kim and Jillian more involved this season — being at all the challenges and the weigh-ins. I don't think the Black and Red teams would have been able to run down that hill and back up with the flag as fast as they did without Jillian and Kim yelling at them along the way and literally pulling them to the finish line. It was very impressive that none of them even came close to eating a cupcake to score their team 15-second lead in the challenge. Please tell me those delicious-looking cupcakes didn’t go to complete waste and a lucky cameraman or producer got to enjoy them.

A few other thoughts:

• Thanks to Bob for taking his team to Subway and showing how you can still eat healthily on a low budget. And for explaining the difference between red-wine vinegar and vinaigrette. That's something I am definitely going to keep in mind next time I'm at Subway (which I admit is at least twice a week since, well, it's healthy and cheap!)

• Jillian cracked me up when the Black Team showed off clothes they weren’t able to fit into before and pretended to get choked up before yelling, "No I'm not, shut up!"

• I'm surprised and a bit disappointed we didn't get to see Bob's reaction to his team sending Jerry home.

• Too bad the Blue Team lost another person two weeks in a row, but as always with other eliminated players, it was great to see Patty's success at home. Congrats to the Black Team for being the only team to still have all its teammates — I won't be surprised if the Biggest Loser ends up being one of them.

So will we finally find out about this mysterious twist? Any more thoughts on what it could be?

Check out clips from the show in our Online Video Guide.

I swear this twist is something they did last season, but not on such a dramatic scale.

They force the contestants to live in the "real world" for a week. They have to find ways to exercise without a gym (in in the previews we saw one team on the beach). They'll have to make their own food and/or make smart choices when eating out.

I could be wrong of course and there might be more to it than that. I do think they did this last year because I remember a team working out on the beach and they were happy to find that they could keep a workout going anywhere, even if they couldn't make it to the gym.

Not sure the deal with closing the dorms, though...so, gotta be more to it, right?

I think that last year, they all went to Vegas and had to find a way to excerise there. Since the scenes from next week show the black team working out on a beach, I wonder if they are going somewhere tropical like Cabo San Lucas.

I was disappointed that the Blue team played the challenge with their minds and not their bodies. After seeing the black team just miss their time, the blue team could have gotten the Red team down lower or done the challenge themselves. They did send the right person home though. She is doing a terrific job at home.

A couple of seasons ago they did a holiday show that showed parts that had not aired during the season. One of the clips was Bob "snacking" on the temptations (true it was just a couple of pieces) it was hilarious.

I know the feeling of being waylaid by a cupcake...

I would have sent Neil home. I don't think he's pulling his weight.

i'm jumping on the tropical location bandwagon- Jillian did mention that "this is not a vacation" after all.

I'm loving the more pronounced presence by the trainers as well. They're such great cheerleaders for the teams, it's great to see them at the weigh-ins and challenges.

They should be at the weigh-ins. They should also get a vote at the elimination.

Did anyone else see Jerry on the Today show Tuesday morning? He looks GREAT! It gives this 52-year-old some hope for the future! I also think that the Blue team having to lose another member was just karma biting them in the ass for voting off Jerry the week before.;)

the blue team has become their own worst enemy since they voted jerry out. they would not have been in that room if they still had jerry.

i really enjoyed watching last night cuz so many of the Losers were pushing themselves way beyond anything they ever could have imagined themselves being able to do. that was cool to watch.

i'm also bummed they didnt show bobs reaction to their stupid decision to vote jerry out. that was a BIG deal, i wonder why they didnt even have bob address it?

Yeah! What the h--- was up with not letting us know Bob's reaction to Jerry's eviction?

When I tried to get my body more cut, I used to only eat subway sandwiches for meals. I also didn't know the difference between the two condiments.

That was inspirational how bob made Patty understand her self worth, but the way it played out on tv made it sound as if they were having ... um, never mind.

I agree that is was disappointing not to get Bob's reaction to Jerry's elimination. As a 61 year old, I was glad to see a senior not only represented but kicking ass.

Good for all the trainers for instilling in their charges a positive attitude. Arnold Schwarzenegger always subscribed to the philosophy of "Conceive it; Believe it; Achieve it." Probably not his original thought but one he espoused during his bodybuilding heydays.

This is not a gulity pleasure to me. As one battling a weight problem, I applaud these people for their efforts. It can't be easy to see oneself up there grossly overweight and struggling to do things everyone else takes for granted. And, while weight loses in double digits are great to see and often expected by viewers, any loss is commendable. Three pounds a week translates into 156 pounds a year. To all the contestents, keep up the good work.

This show is my guilty pleasure, too. I love the human drama and also that it gives me a kick in the pants to get moving. Watching the first episode where Amy, lucky enough to be chosen, wanted to quit during the first workout! Now, I only have about 10 pounds to lose and seeing her give up so quickly gave me a good wake up call about not quitting and fighting for something you want. The show is an inspiration for those needing to lose 100 pounds or 10.

In next week's TV Guide it says the losers go to an exotic local where they are greeted with temptation and I don't think they mean babes in bikinis!

BORING! Anyone else bored out of your mind thus far this season? While I love the fact that the trainers are more involved (weigh in's, challenges, etc) and I'm enjoying the new host (although I'd never heard of here before)...none of the contestants have yet to grab my attention...either positively or negatively.

By this point I usually have my favorites...and my least favorites...but so far it's been a pretty dull season...maybe there are too many contestants?

Where are the personalities? I want someone to root for! :O

Tricia, this is the first season I've really watched. I have contestants I don't really like. Plus, I still cannot figure out how someone who weighs 200 or 300 lbs and exercises 4 hours a day is only losing 2 or 3 pounds a week. Last week I lost 1.8 lbs and I exercised for 1 hour during the week and I weigh less than 200 lbs. So color me confused with their weight loss numbers. Like my mother says, they must be eating a lot.
