Sex and the City: Big Mistake?
OK, lay it on me. Who's waiting for Sex and the City: The Movie to finally hit theaters so you can see if Carrie marries Big, Charlotte's still crazy, Miranda's still cynical and Samantha's still with Smith? Oh, come on, admit it.
At first I thought, "What? No! They'll ruin the whole idea of the show by making some movie out of it!" But as shooting began recently here in New York City, I warmed up to the idea of continued storylines and Big possibilities. Plus, I love me some Harry!
And on another note, we're sure to revisit Carrie's unique style and fashion choices. This won't be the first time we'll see her adorned with a giant flower and shoes that never seem to match on first glance.
I couldn't help but wonder... who's going to buy a ticket? And who prefers the final image of NYC's fantastic four to be their side-by-side strut we saw in the show's finale?

I'm curious to see how far they'll let (make?) Kim Cattrall go on the big screen. ">

I can't help but wonder: Why, oh why, would they want to tear apart the perfect little bow that wrapped up the series so well? As much as I love those gals -- and especially their men -- I would rather leave them as they were.

Eileen, I agree with you but I know that I am weak enough to run to the theater when the movie is released.

I'm so mad this crap of a show is being made into a movie. This show was touted as being about female empowermet when all it really was was a show about four whiny women who fell apart whenever they didn't have a man in their lives. Yeah Girl Power!

I am so excited about the Sex and the City movie that my friends and I are planning a trip to New York so that we can see the movie, opening day, there! I'm traveling 3000 miles to see this movie!

I loved the series and was sad when it ended, but at some point, every series has to end.
While the final episode didn't tie up loose ends, I accept the way it ended. I won't see the movie. I will wait until it comes to cable.

When the series first ended and there were conversations of immediately filming a movie, I was disappointed. I didn't think a movie was necessary, and I thought it would ruin the series. Now that a few years have passed, I miss the girls. As crazy as this sounds, you do get invested in TV characters, and get attached to them. You faithfully see them once a week for years. I don't always get to see my closest friends that often. I'm glad the movie is picking up in real time- 4 years later. And I will go see it in the theatre - to check up on old friends.
Follow up question: What other series would you guys like to see made into a movie? I would probably watch a Felicity or a Friends movie.

Good question SunshineACS. I'd definitely see a Felicity or Friends movie, as those were some of my regular, weekly friends years ago. We'll see if the Gilmore Girls movie rumor comes true... although I fear for what that script might bring.

I am excited to see it only because I have rewatched the eps so much that I am sick of them. I can't wait for fresh storylines! I think it will complement the series just fine.

I seriously doubt I'll go see it. The series had a perfect end. I don't need to see if Big and Carrie get married or break up -- they were together and that was good enough for me. The same with the others. Sometimes you just gotta let go. As much as I miss certain shows, including SATC, Gilmore, Buffy, Angel, etc., they had a good run, came to reasonable conclusion and I'm good with that. The only one I might go see as a movie would be Veronica Mars because I think it ended too soon and too suddenly.

SPOILER.
New finale for series will be the lame metamovie concept of art imitating life. The TV show was based on the writings of Candace Bushnell, who Carrie Bradshaw is based on. The movie will end with Carrie Bradshaw's writings being turned into a TV show starring younger versions of her and her friends...so the girls can pat themselves on the back that they grew up from young whores to old whores to old settled-settled down golddiggers.
Trust me, the younger girls have been cast and the images are out there... http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/5926/youngsitc2uc4.jpg http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/6693/youngsitc1uj1.jpg
p.s. Yes, Big Mistake.

Of course I'll see it, I loved, loved, loved the show.
But the finale was great, and hit just the right note of leaving some things hanging while tying up others. and I do fear this will be terrible. Remember the Mary & Rhoda reunion movie 20 years later? No one wants that on S&TC's near-perfect record.
I'm a little disappointed to hear there's a meta-plot, hasn't that been done to death? Isn't that one to trot out for the third movie when they run out of ideas (and it may have more resonance for older characters).

i LOVES me some chris noth, but i've always hated their whole relationship. just cuz you have chemistry and killer sex DOESNT mean he is a good choice for a relationship. he's crapped all over her for years.
i must be a young---okay, middle-aged---whore cuz i'd be getting me some mr. BIG whenever i could, but that's all it would be.

I agree this movie makes no sense we already got to see them naked 50 times over and thye could curse a sailor under the table[by the way weren't these supposed to be CLASSY,sophisticated, upscale New York women]. So there's nowhere to go but down I was sad to see the end too but you have to let sleeping dogs LIE.
