Jericho, I Miss You Already

Skeet Ulrich as Jake in Jericho by Monty Brinton/CBS
See?! Nothing good can come of killing off Gerald McRaney! Can we all take a moment of silence here? I am completely disappointed in today's announcement that Jericho will not return for another season. I know this show was a gamble. I know Mama Green was getting on some of our nerves. I know a small Kansas town may not appeal to the masses. But… come on!

I accepted the decision to end Gilmore Girls (although, not thrilled with Logan's exit). I welcomed the idea of a future finish line for Lost. I gladly shook off The O.C. when it left us last year. But I can't let this go — at least not this week. In fact, I'm taking out all my frustration on Angel's candy bin. (Is CBS going to pay my gym bill?)

If you're a Jericho fan, you've been watching Skeet Ulrich and Co. cope post-mushroom cloud. And after a rocky start, hopefully you'll agree with me when I say the writing and acting only got better as the season went on. We got answers slowly but surely, we had characters with real substance (Hello, Hawkins!), and we watched a panicked town survive week by week with unexpected additions, unfriendly neighbors and personal relationships torn and mended. OK, so maybe it's no Heroes. No one's walking through walls or slicing people's heads open with their magic finger. There's no smoke monster (although, that's my least favorite part of Lost). But I really thought CBS was onto something when Jericho was put on the map.

Skeet, if you're listening, I'll miss your leadership (and that hooded sweatshirt). Don't go disappearing now….

CBS, you've hurt me today. I will applaud you for giving us another season of How I Met Your Mother, but that will be brief. I will continue moping for as long as it takes.

I already commented on the blog, but I thought I would add one here. That news sucks. I am quite a bit more disappointed than I thought I would be. Guess I was a bit more hooked than I knew. Just when it was getting really good...

Megan... You just summed up my feelings perfectly.

I will really miss Jericho.

Megan Thank you for mourning with us. Just like Jayhawk, I, too, am more disappointed than I thought I'd be. Jericho was getting better and better, and I thought it was one of the better season (series) finales I've seen so far. Best of luck to the cast and crew. Thanks for a good season!

As I also said in a previous blog, I'm extremely disappointed with this decision by CBS. I agree with everything that you said Megan. I really liked the developement of the characters and am annoyed that I won't see them develope. Hopefully most will be able to find gigs in new shows that are worthy of their talent.

There is no question that Jericho fans really appreciate the originality of the plot and the superior quality of the acting and characterizations. As a frequent TVGuide.com visitor, I was mystified by the lack of buzz by Ausiello and the rest of the Podcast group about Jericho, with the sole exception of the Skeet Ulrich interview in early March. Instead they talk ad nauseum about the same shows and apparently seem to be unwilling to look at shows outside their favorites.

It seems that for shows like Jericho to have any shot at all, there has to be a lot more online discussion about them. I would hope you could convince your colleagues to report on the disappointed fan base. All you have to do is visit Jericho boards at cbs.com and imdb.com and you will see there are many who believe that CBS made a big mistake.

Another reason why network tv sucks, why invest time and effort to watch a show and they dont even give it a chance, at least this lasted one season, dont get me started on shows lasting only a few episodes (man, i still miss SMith).

WHY WHY WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS???? It had so much buzz and the ratings were pretty good considering it was up against AI results. This makes NO SENCE to me!!! I watch very little tv but this show brought me to the couch every wednesday night, without fail and I know I wasnt the only one! I am holding out hope that it might get considered for mid season or something...

Oh bummer! Maybe another procedural will take the place of the unrealistic program Jericho!

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the AI results show on at 9:00PM on Wednesday nights? I saw a similar comment when Ausiello reported the news. I am pretty sure AI had nothing to do with the ratings and cancellation. I could be wrong as I do not watch the results show.

Jericho and Amazing Race were the only CBS shows I watched. Jericho really improved throughout the season. While there was still much room for improvement, I'm surprised they wouldn't at least give it a 13 ep order.

Jericho was THE ONLY CBS show i watched every week. All the others are ones you can catch "when you can" and not really miss anything. I think the fact CBS dumped Jericho is a testiment to why I will actively NOT watch CBS next fall. Why watch a procedural when you can catch it on USA or TNT or Spike in the future?

I am SOOOOOO PO'd that Jericho got cancelled!!! and judging from the fall lineup, CBS will not hold my attention long......... I loved Jericho and was glad they were finally filling us in on some of what went on before the attack.....great concept show, CBS should have had more guts and stuck to it, instead if dumping it.

Megan - I love you, and really need you in this time of mutual mourning!! Someone else to share this tragic moment, share the grief and frustration beseiged upon the town of Jericho and its loyal fans! Share the utter frustration and the undeniable urge to "seriously hurt someone at CBS" over this travesty!

And to make matters worse - CBS ditched Jericho for a show called "Kid Nation" which will probably not make it past week 4? Why not use Jericho as a mid-season filler? Why not renew it and partner it up with a different show? Why not give it a chance?
