« Andy Barker, P.I.
April 14, 2007: RIP, P.I.
As you likely read in my Today's News blog, Andy Barker has been hastily ushered off NBC's lineup, and last night's double bill was likely the last we shall see of our intrepid sleuth. Unfortunately my schedule did not afford me the chance to view the episodes, but please feel free to use this blog to discuss it amongst yourselves.
As I said in the news blog, it's a shame this show didn't catch on, as it had a wholesome, sweet, suburban feel to it. Not every sitcom needs to be littered with pop culture shout-outs and knowing winks.
RIP, P.I.
PS. Now how about that prequel spin-off "Guy Halverson, Two Tons of Don Juan"?

I thought each episode was like a mini movie each week. I really enjoyed it. All well, I can't say that I'm shocked by its cancellation because the ratings were so bad.

I really enjoyed this show, and think that if it had had a better better introduction and had been more protected, it would have caught on. I loved Lew's in-your-face interrogation of the young boy last night, followed by his telling Andy, "Give him your bad cop."
On a separate note, my local NBC station apparently left the monkeys in charge last night, as there was an extended length of dead air during the denouement, so I went from seeing the drug dealer tell Andy that it was his lucky day, to a shot of Simon driving the car with a sleeping Andy next to him. Then, instead of starting the next episode, we were "treated" to 15 minutes of The NBC Nightly News. When Andy returned, there was no sound.

Melinda, if you live in the U.S., you can watch both episodes online. Just follow this lead: http://www.nbc.com/Andy_Barker_PI/full_episodes/.
I, too, will miss Andy Barker, P.I. I can't say I'd ever been a huge fan of Andy Richter, but this show's gentle and clever humour appealed to me. I also loved seeing Clea Lewis again and thought she was perfectly cast. NBC should have given P.I. much better promotion.

I'm sad. I was liking this show more every time I watched. I hate it when networks don't even give a show a chance to build an audience.
Once again I'm being deprived of Tony Hale on TV.
Bummer.

So, so sad. I was loving this show on every level. Maybe with better promotion and more nurturing on NBC's part, it would have caught on. What a shame.

How can this show not catch on? It's brilliant! It's bad enough they're getting rid of Studio 60. At least there, there are people who openly criticize it. Granted, criticism that makes little sense to me; but it's out there all the same. There are nay sayers with that. But I haven't heard one bad thing about AB PI. Maybe I'm just not looking at the right places. And lord knows I've talked up this show to people. Being a big guy myself, I haven't seen anything funnier than the running gag that the big(ger) guy who died on the golf course, was sexy. And Lew blowing up his own car, because he forgot to take it out of his car? Ed Asner beating up Andy Richter? Brilliant, brilliant! This makes me think of Arrested Development, with it's irreverant humor. Though, at least that was given a chance to go three fantastic seasons (and oddly enough, also starred Tony Hale, something I just realized.) Hard to believe FOX of all networks, would be the one to give a show of this styling, a better chance.....

It's a shame the show didn't catch on but I'm not surprised. It wasn't really laugh out loud funny but more a pleasant way to spend 30 minutes. I could see this on the USA network, especially with Monk and Psych, if they had another half-hour show to pair it with.

As much as I dislike Conan O'Brien because he is so crass and unprofessional, I did really like this show and it's too bad when we finally get a decent sitcom back on the airwaves that they get rid of it.
Maybe someone should start a campaign to get it back.
In my opinion, Clea Lewis was the only one miscast.

Disappointed that this show didn't catch on. Loved it. I'm a big fan of Conan and Andy Richter. Crass and unprofessional?? That makes me laugh. Thanks for that.
As others have said, at least AD got 3 seasons. Same type of humor. Sad that Fear Factor was on for many years and this show dies a quick death. I sometimes wonder about the tastes of the American public.

Enjoyed the last two on Saturday night in the same bittersweet way I watch Arrested Development (and NewsRadio) reruns now.
Between this and Knights of Prosperity, we lost two excellent shows after very short runs while According to Jim defies all odds and gets to keep its spot!

I could not agree more. I cannot stand According to Jim. Also War at home, King of Queens, just to name a few that are still out there. Even that horrible show Hope and Faith (not sure name) was on longer then this show. TV networks must be run by some very insecure people that do not want to take a chance on their own programming. I think if they had left this on they would have eventually built a bigger fan base, or if they would put it on while everything else is reruns then it would catch on. It is a cute and entertaining show.

Shame Shame on NBC for not giving Andy PI a chance! It was in a difficult time spot so peops were probably just beginning to find it. I enjoyed Andy's rather odd sense of humor and the cast was superb! BRING ANDY BACK!
