March 8, 2007: "Half Full or Half Empty?"
There were no real surprises in the beginning; though I thought Phil would be going home, somehow I’m not surprised he’s staying. Jared is the first one to leave this week. Maybe it was the argyle.
What the heck was that song Carrie sang? It was dreadful and she shouted the chorus repeatedly. If that’s any indication of what an Idol can look forward to, I hope my favorites don’t make it to that unhappy place.
Let’s get on with it. Antonella had a lot of hair, but finally we got rid of our controversial one… She was even worse singing tonight than she was last night and she messed up the words. When will it be over?
The biggest upset of course what that Haley made it through and Sabrina is going home. I cannot even understand that at all. Seriously, everyone I spoke with since yesterday disagreed on three of the four going home tonight, but everyone, and I mean every single person, agreed Haley was going home. Perhaps she got the sympathy vote. I don’t get it. Sabrina’s leaving Hollywood, but you know what? That’s OK because she’s good enough that she’ll do really well. She sang, “Don’t Let Go,” and I think that’s a good sentiment for her — don’t let go of your dream!
Idol announces how swell they are by giving something back to Africa and America on April 24th and 25th. They’ll raise money on Tuesday by making the Top 6 finalists sing songs of hope and compassion and then that Wednesday really famous people will Jerry Lewis you into donating.
It’s down to Sanjaya and Sundance and at this point, it’s anyone’s guess. Either one can go home as far as I’m concerned. I really think there are some people out there voting for some of the worst singers just to screw up the contest.
So to recap, going home: Antonella "Girls Gone Wild" Barba Jarred "Argyle, For Real" Cotter Sabrina "Say It Isn’t So" Sloan Sundance "Sunshine-y Day" Head
America got it half right, but sending Sabrina home was wrong, and keeping Sanjaya was way wrong, maybe unforgivable. All I can say is if people don’t vote for the right contestants, Sanjaya may just win this thing. Then we’ll have to watch him hula dance for the next several years. Think about it. Sayonara until next time.

As for Sanjaya--it's not that people are voting for the worst singers. It's that Indian-Americans are turning out in droves to support one of their own.
I am an IA myself, and I think underestimate the power of the desi vote.
I, however, am ashamed of their obviously poor taste in singers. Melinda for the win!

I'm not surprised that Sanjaya and Haley made it. This happens every year, someone that sucks always makes it in the top twelve. Oh well, I'm sure that they will be the first two voted off! But with American Idol you never know!

My only gribe about this thing is that why did they let Ant sing?? At one point I thought about throwing my remote at my tv to make it stop. And I like that song too. Everytime I hear that song....I now have her to think about.
Lets hope that either Sanjaya or Haley gets voted off first next week.
Anyway Im glad that AI is doing this giving back to program. Good for them.
And go Melinda. I wish they let her do encore from last night. They should of let her sing instead of that mess that Ant was trying to do.

Wow! That was one of the most intense results shows. Not that there were many surprises, but I just couldn't wait to see if we would finally be rid of Antonella and Sanjaya. I partly expected both of them to make it, but then part of me was convinced that America would finally get it right and eliminate them.
I was SHOCKED....just SHOCKED that Sabrina was sent packing. And then to have Hayley make it instead of her is just appalling....although better Hayley than Ant, I guess. I had really no opinions about Jared or Sundance, so it wasn't any big deal that they left.
My shock about Sabrina, though, paled in comparison to Paula, Randy and Simon's. I'll bet they can't believe they ever dragged Sanjaya and Hayley into the competition.
The show now belongs to Stephanie, Lakisha and Melinda. If Melinda doesn't win this thing, I will have to give up on AI. After the disappointment of Katharine McPhee losing to the old dude last year, I can't handle another bummer finale.
Now the real show starts.....

Thank you America, Antonella is gone! Now to weed out Haley and Sanjaya. Haley has to know she only has a week long reprieve.

I was watching with my 14-year-old daughter via messenger last night, and we were talking about who our favorites were. we didn't mind any of the first 3 who got sent packing, and did happy dances when Ant finally got the boot. Then, we saw the final two were going to be Sanjaya and Sundance. My daughter wrote how much she liked Sanjaya, but she thought Sundance would go to the final 12, as did I. We were both absolutely *shocked* when it was Sanjaya who got to go on. the look on Sanjaya's face reminded me of Katherine's last season when Chris Daughtry got voted off. I really hope the Idol voters open their ears next week and vote off the worst singers, otherwise I think I will finally have to give up on the show.

It's not the teeny boppers keeping Sanjaya in, they think he sucks too...or at least all the ones in my life that I've talked to about the show. It's not the votefortheworst people either as they were encouraged to vote for Antonella and Sundance. So much for that. No, it clearly is the "desi" vote as the earlier poster mentioned. They are all votiing for himin droves apparently. Let's just hope he and Haley are the next 2 to go. And I knew Sabrina was in trouble because I heard her name mentioned as having stunk Wednesday, but I pointed out that she was still better than Haley and was better the prior 2 weeks. Haley might have gotten enough "sympathy" votes for the way Simon talked to her. Saying she wasn't good was enough, saying he didn't know her name came off as mean to a lot of people. Too bad for Sabrina. The other 2 were good choices. Carrie did sound bad, that was the worst I've ever heard her...what was up with that? As far as the special announcement, that was awesome. Watching Simon with those kids, and then seeing the images from New Orleans made my eyes water...and I'm a pretty tough guy. Now, some people might complain about including Africa and not just keeping it here, but I'm betting that since Bono was mentioned, that he contacted Quincy Jones and the 2 of them came to the AI producers with this idea. This has their fingerprints all over it. So, better some help than none. All we ever hear is about how much money AI and the AI producers, judges, and Ryan all make...so it's about time they set the example. Now, let's see some other popular shows do the same thing. CSI and Law & Order have several top rated shows that could easily donate some of their ad dollars. What about the Super Bowl? We always hear about how much each 30 second ad runs, why not donate 10% of that money to poverty causes in America? I could see Deal or No Deal doing something too. What AI has done could be revolutionary, and hopefully will set off a run of fund raising the likes of which we've never seen. There is a LOT of money tossed around on TV, it's about time that some of it went to the places that most need it. Two years after Katrina and people are still living in temporary trailers is a national disgrace. This is AMERICA for crying out loud, not some Third World backwards country! I applaud AI for doing this, regardless of where the money goes. Both are good, needy causes. Now, let's hope others follow their example and we'll see some REAL money being put to good uses. ~ÐL

I was pleased and surprised by the big announcement. It's nice that Idol is giving back and using its tremendous power to reach the people. WAY better than a songwriting contest!
As to the eliminees, did anyone else think Jared was a little, um, arrogant, after being told he was leaving? He's a cutie-pie, but the voice is subpar, and choosing Stevie just highlighted the fact. Antonella knew she was toast. I am not so distraught over Haley being picked over Sabrina. There are 3 other girls in Sabrina's genre that do it much better. Haley is a fresh face and deserves the chance to help Simon remember her name.
Finally, Sundance vs. Sanjaya. I think America's just not that comfortable with a dude crying copious tears on national TV. Sure, Sanjaya's less talented, but he sure is pretty, and he plays well with others. I just started watching last week and wish I had had a chance to see more of Sundance, but I have to admit he made me a little uncomfortable.
I did not think Carrie's song was that bad. And she looked hot. And the violinist was tremendous. And what an inspiration for those kids to see what they could accomplish!

I think people are being too hard on Haley. It's almost like people are putting her in a class with Antonella. She doesn't bring anything special or unique to the competition, but she is not a bad singer. And she has some stage presence.
Having said that, she should have gone before Sabrina, but Haley is not a bad singer.

Haha I thought it was awesome Sanjaya made it. He's so horrific its entertaining. I'm not surprised anytime anyone actually good gets kicked off....especially after AJ. I'm a little sad about Sabrina but her rendition of En Vogue's don't let go was less than stellar. Maybe if the american idol people would just let them sing the regular chorus/verse instead of the random chorus/bridge combination some of these performances might not seem so off the mark. Sundance's rendition of Jeremy made me wanna cry it was so painful.

People I have to say I really hate being right. I knew either Sanjaya and/or Antonella were going to the top 12. What I didn't see coming was truly unforgettable Halie Scarnato in the top 12. Now that was a shock. It's really sad how much better Sabrina Sloan is than her. I mean Halie isn't bad but she's not that great either. I put her a few notches ahead of Sanjaya but if history continues to repeat itself, then we all better get really prepared to hear ALOT more from Sanjaya. Unfortunately I don't think he's going anywhere.
