Original Gladiator passes away

Shelley Beattie, who is better known to fans of the original American Gladiators as Siren, was found attempting suicide on February 13. She died on the 16th. She was 40.

Beattie was deaf when she joined the original AG, losing her hearing following an accidental overdose of asprin when she was 3 years old. Other Gladiators would give her visual cues when the referee's whistle was blown to start and end events she was competing in.

What she kept from fans is, in addition to being deaf, she was also bipolar. It is believed that the bipolar disorder was a factor in her death.
