Journeyman

Well friends, it looks like the journey has come to an end. In what seemed to be Journeyman's final episode, Dan came into contact with a fellow traveler while in present day Jack went off to confront Dr. Langley and Katie's sister tried to convince her to leave Dan. But did it give us the closure we were looking for?
At the start of the episode Dan found himself in the courtyard of a mental hospital where he met Evan, a patient claiming to be another traveler who's medication prevented him from jumping again. As Dan learned more about Evan's experiences and his lost love, he began to see a bit of himself in the stories he was hearing and he agreed to help Evan escape. After instigating a fight with another patient, Dan disappeared back to his own time while Evan made a break for it.
Dan returned home to discover he had been gone for almost two days. His extended absence (not to mention the random blood trails he tends to leave) was starting to get to Katie who has been trying so hard to be accepting of her husband's situation. But with an intrusive sister whispering in her ear to leave and the knowledge that Jack is about to settle down and have a normal family life of his own, it was hard for her not to question her own marriage regardless of her feelings for Dan. These are just the prices you pay when your the time travelers wife I guess. Nevertheless, before he could deal with his marital woes Dan needed to figure out his latest mission if he ever wanted some answers. Upon researching Evan's current status however, he learned that after escaping the hospital Evan was hit by a car and died.
During his second trip back, Dan met up with Livia who was called away from her wedding preparations to help with the mission. As Dan filled her in on the details of the third traveler, he spotted the woman Evan claimed to have been involved with and Evan trying to work up the courage to confront her. With some coaching from Dan and Livia, Evan finally approached his girl but she claimed to have no idea who he was.
Back in present day, Jack was waiting to confront Dr. Langley about the picture of him and Dan as a child. Dr. Langley denied having any memory of the encounter but our man Jack was not giving up that easy. He decided to sit in on one of Dr. Langley's lectures in an attempt to get him to discuss time travel. Dan resurfaces at home where Katie (following advice from her sister to move out of the house) was waiting to finally confront Dan about how his random journeys are affecting their family. Later at his office, Dan learned that Evan was still dead (he was killed trying to break into the home of the woman he was once married to.)
On his last trip back, Dan had one more chance to figure out if Evan was actually a fellow journeyman or just a nutjob with an obsession for an unattainable love. When Dan and Livia caught up to Evan, he claimed to have proof that he and the senator's wife had actually been involved. It was a videotape of the two dancing in a salsa contest. Evan also explained the reason for his wife's memory loss. Apparently when he was traveling, he had an experience much like Dan's own encounter with Aeden Benett that led to his wife being killed. In his various attempts to save her, the result was always the same and so he just made it so they had never met. Dan and Livia help Evan get another shot to win over his wife. Just as things were looking up for Evan and he got his wife to fall for him again, he dropped dead on the dance floor. Mission accomplished? Ehh, sorta. When Dan and Livia left it was time to address their unresolved tension now that she was about to get married in her real life and both got the feeling their time together was dwindling. As they were about to share one last kiss, Dan's double from that time ran past and Dan realized it was the exact day he first traveled back. He and Livia watched Double-Dan disappear from the backseat of a cab and it became clear that Evan's death is what triggered Dan's journeys.
Once again in present day, Katie finally told her sister to butt out and let her and Dan's family drama stay within their family. Though its definitely understandable that they're concerned, it seems like every outsider of the Vasser immediate family exists just to try to bring an end to Dan and Katie's marriage. We then see Dan reading Evan's travel log. As he got on the elevator to leave work, Dr. Langley was waiting for him. The moment we've all been waiting for! Dr. Langley finally opened up about the mysteries of traveling. Though he offered no real explanation aside from it being a scientific anomaly, Dr. Langley did reveal that there are others out there with the same ability, groups of people looking to control someone who has it, and that Dan is the last living person with the ability to travel. Dan suggested he knew of one other (Livia) but he wouldn't give up the person's identity. Back at home, he and Katie discussed the possibility that Dan start taking the sedatives that seem to stop the journeys. Dan explained that although there is much risk involved, the journeys give him the chance to make a difference but that he loves Katie and always wants to come home to her. Katie drifted off to sleep but just as Dan was about to travel once again he woke her up to witness his jump for the very first time.
In the end, this episode would have made for a great season finale but it looks as though it will be the end to the entire series. Though we were given answers to a decent amount of our questions, it seems now more than ever there are so many places for this show to go. It would have been nice to have Dan and Livia's tension finally done with and have them separated for a change. My biggest issue with the show was always the Jack/Katie/Dan/Livia craziness. It was too much unnecessary drama and this episode seemed to finally resolve most of that. Regarding the Dr. Langley revelations, I was hoping for more. We realized last week when it was revealed that they were born during the same mystical phenomenon that Dan and Livia weren't the only ones. The interesting thing was that Dan was the last one left. I guess that means little Zack has no shot at getting in on his dad's journeys. Overall, I'm happy that this show was able to go out with some sort of a finale. So many shows on the air these days never get the chance to deliver the finale that its millions of fans waited for. I'm sure there are many of you out there who are still upset by the shows cancellation but at least we got something! But Who knows? Maybe we could get a tv movie? I think millions of boxes of the San Francisco treat have to get us a little bit more.
Lastly, thank you to everyone for continuing to check out the blog! It's been a bumpy ride with this show but in the end, the suits won the battle. But hey...at least we got Jericho back.

It was all about the butterfly effect on this week's next to last episode of Journeyman. During a visit from Katie's sister, Dan disappeared on another journey which took him back in time to the back of a camper that was about to fall over the side of a cliff. After helping the mother and son inside the camper make their escape, he dropped his digital camera as he tried to get himself out. He returned to present day for a brief moment before vanishing once again to retrieve his camera from the past. It was 1984 and both Dan and Livia found themselves wandering around the offices of a software company. The two briefly caught up and discussed Livia's plans to marry her boyfriend in the past before the reason for their appearance in the office park became clear. As it turned out, the mother Dan had previously saved works for the software company and her son was visiting the office trying to make a deal to sell the digital camera Dan had dropped. When Dan tried to steal the camera away, office security escorted he and Livia out of the building allowing the advanced technology to make it into the hands of the software engineers. Dan resurfaced again in 2007 to what appeared to be his normal life. He resumed the family dinner that Katie had prepared for her sister's visit but when Zack came down for dinner, it wasn't Zack. It was a little girl named Caroline and Dan's son was nowhere to be found. Dan arrived at his office the next morning and made another bizarre discovery about the parallel universe he found himself in. The technology was far superior to anything they had in the real 2007. A single sheet of paper could contain an entire video clip and his desktop computer was something right out of The Minority Report. While Dan wandered around this alternate version of the present, Jack visited with a friend at the FBI to discuss the secret investigation into time travel that the now-deceased rogue agent was working on. While going through the file that the agent was able to dig up, Jack found an old picture of Dan with Dr. Langley that he believed was taken by their father. As Dan and Jack did their thing, Katie had a sit-down with a fortune teller who seemed to have all the answers and was getting a strong reading inside the house. Dan found himself once again in 1984 with one more opportunity to get his camera back and correct the timeline. He was back at the office park where he interrupted the boy from earlier trying to make a deal to sell the camera. According to his research, this was the night the boy disappeared and later wound up dead. With no other clear option, Dan simply ripped the camera from his hands and made a run for the trash compactor. He and Livia were able to destroy the future technology with just enough time to disappear back to their own times without sustaining any injuries. Dan returns to the real 2007 where he and Katie get a visit from the fortune teller. The woman drew up a birth chart for Dan and discovered that he was born during a rare mystical occurrence that has only happened one other time in history; when Livia was born back in 1923. With this knowledge and the photo his brother discovered, Dan paid a visit to Dr. Langley who pretended not to know who Dan was but gave him a long intense stare signifying that he was probably doing it for Dan's own protection. Overall, we got a nice set up for the finale. It was questionable whether or not the abrupt cancellation of the show would provide enough time for the writers to have an actual ending but it looks as though we can expect a little bit of closure. With this week's show, although I loved the whole butterfly effect theme (it reminded me of the show Sliders,) I didn't like the reveal that Dan's traveling is most likely due to some mystical force in the universe that had occurred both when he and Livia were born. It reminds me too much of something from a show like Charmed, not a time traveling show. The confrontation with Dr. Langley in the final minutes of the show leaves many questions for Wednesday's finale. Clearly the man knows who Dan is and was only trying to deny it in front of security. I'm thinking this has something to do with the FBI investigation. Despite this show hitting its stride only recently, I think a nice wrap-up on Wednesday night could leave me satisfied. There are so many questions left unanswered and yet a single meeting with Dr. Langley could provides answers to all of them. The write-up for the show states that Dan meets up with another traveler which also leaves room for many of our lingering questions to be addressed. What questions are you all hoping to get answered before the credits roll on Wednesday's episode?

It was a very merry Journeyman episode this week when Dan and Livia traveled to 1979 on Christmas Eve. It happened to be the night that Dan’s present-day tyrannical boss took over the paper and the night before his father left his family. Not the best way to spend the holidays but it had a certain scrooge-like charm.
As things got underway, we caught a glimpse of Livia’s life in the 40’s and it seems she’s got a new man. Despite her lingering feelings for Dan made obvious by the futuristic picture of the two of them at a baseball game, Livia seems to finally understand that Dan has moved on and has a family of his own in his own time. In 2007, the Vasser family was preparing to host a Christmas party at the house when Dan learns that he is part of a planned 25% staff cut at work. After unsuccessfully pleading with his boss’ boss to save everyone’s jobs, Dan is tossed into another wormhole and emerges at his office Christmas party in 1979.
While surveying the scene trying to find his mission, Dan met up with his father and was eager to give the man a piece of his mind the night before he was planning to ditch out on the family. Livia once again warned Dan that interfering with his own life in the past never ends well. Taking Livia’s advice, Dan resumed his mission which he figured out was to investigate the death of the owner of the paper, Merritt Almbacher, which was set to occur that evening. While Dan went off to do his thing, Livia was getting harassed by an obnoxious drunk who refused to take no for an answer. Witnessing the harassment, Dan came to the rescue and forced the man to back off. The man introduced himself to Dan and Livia as Dennis Almbacher (the boss’ son and a younger version of the man responsible for ordering the layoffs in 2007.) In a fit of anger over his past and present actions, Dan punched the daddy’s boy out and disappeared into the future.
When he returned to his office in 2007, Dan questioned Nancy Stokes, the woman who (thanks to some intel from his brother) he learned was reportedly with Merritt Almbacher when he died. She was in denial that she had ever actually met the man and claimed that she was just a simple a copy editor back in ‘79. Meanwhile over at the Vasser home, Jack and Katie had to make excuses for Dan’s absence at the party. In addition to covering for Dan, Katie was struggling to get over the trauma she went through in last week’s episode. I dunno…call me crazy but perhaps throwing out the blood-stained apron would have been a good place to start. How’d she think putting it through the laundry and then wearing it to cook a Christmas dinner wouldn’t spark bad memories? Eventually Katie got it together and did away with the apron altogether. Just to make her situation worse though, she was also dealing with an irritating mother-in-law who had some understandable animosity toward Katie due to the rift she caused between Dan and Jack. Mama Vasser quickly changed her tune however upon realizing that Katie and Zack had the same issue with Dan that she had with Dan and Jack’s father. As the drama in the Vasser home rolled on, Jack and Theresa had their own issues to deal with. Throughout the evening, Theresa seemed noticeably distant as she stood around observing the interactions between the members of the Vasser family. She later revealed that this was because she found out she was pregnant with Jack’s baby and has some concerns that the bizarre behavior of the Vasser family might be hereditary. During one last trip back to 1979, Dan was quickly running out of time to get to the bottom of Mr. Almbacher’s death. Making things more difficult, Dennis Almbacher tried to get Dan and Livia removed from the party but Dan’s father quickly came to their defense. Livia agreed to search for Nancy so that Dan could have a chance to talk with his father one more time. When Dan entered his father’s office, he found him canoodling with a fellow employee giving little thought to the family that was waiting for him to come home on Christmas Eve. Dan and his father discussed what it means to be a father and tried desperately to make it clear to his dad that leaving without a word is the most selfish and unforgivable thing he could ever do. He left the office and caught up with Livia outside of Almbacher’s office. Dan busted into the office and found jr. pouring himself a drink watching his father die from a heart attack. Mission accomplished!
Dan returned to 2007 and blackmailed the owner of the paper for allowing his own father to die and then bribing Nancy to pretend that she was in the office when the old man passed. Almbacher had no other choice but to let the staff keep their jobs. When he got back to his own family’s Christmas party, Dan questioned Jack about the night their father left and asked what he could remember. Jack told Dan how the night their dad left he woke them up and explained that he was leaving. I guess that’s better than vanishing without a word?! And so it was Merry Christmas for everyone.
Now that we know there are just 2 episodes left of this show, we need to get some answers! Dr. Langley better turn up to shed some light on this time traveling business and hopefully Dan and Livia could have one more moment together before going their separate ways forever. Despite the feelings they will always have for one another, both have their own lives in their own times and being forced to work together on every mission is just unfair. Perhaps that was Livia’s punishment for getting involved with Dan in the first place? I’m in agreement with many of the posts that Dan and Jack’s father must be a traveler. His explanation for leaving them was that he felt like a freak and nothing else would explain how Dr. Langley knew him (unless it was because of the photo he took of Dan in this episode.) So in response to the cancellation of the show, I’d like to hear how you all would like to see the show wrap up. Personally, I’d like to see Langley be the one controlling the trips and Dan somehow manage to get out of having to travel so that he can resume his normal life with his family obviously including a sweet and sappy goodbye scene between Dan Livia. Lastly, though there was some delay in getting this week’s blog up, I can assure all of you that the final 2 episodes will be recapped and will be up on our site the morning after each one airs for you all to leave your comments.

Watching this week’s Journeyman, it became pretty clear just how much of a raw deal Dan got with this whole time traveling business. Since the show began, he’s not once gone back in time before the 1970’s and he’s never left San Francisco. Because of this, it has made it really difficult for present day Dan to avoid the people he has come into contact with in the past. We’ve seen this happen in previous episodes but in this week’s show, it really came back to bite him in the bum. When we left off last week, we saw Aeden Bennett (the kidnapper Dan sent away to prison in the past) out of jail and stalking Dan and his family. As things picked up again, the action kicked off within moments as Aeden burst into Dan’s house and shot him. Before Aeden could fully exact his revenge, Dan was saved by another journey into the past to 1980. Suffering from a gunshot wound, Livia rushed to his side and got him treated at a nearby hospital. Temporarily healed, Livia informed him that his current mission was most likely a test from the people who control their trips for going off-track in his last journey. After hearing this, I’m sure I’m not the only one who now thinks Livia is working with Dan to make up for her changing the timeline by starting a relationship with him during one of her missions. Anyhow, with his wound bandaged up Dan made his way back to the house he had appeared in front of when he first got back to 1980. Upon entering the house, Dan found a little boy locked up in his bedroom, hungry and fearful that his abusive father would come home and catch him talking to a stranger. Dan later learns that this little boy is actually a much younger Aeden Bennett. In 2007, Aeden searched high and low for Dan and when it seemed he had somehow gotten away, Aeden decided to go after Katie. Meanwhile, Jack met with the FBI agent investigating Dan. Despite illegally acquiring access to Dan’s computer, the agent showed Jack some interesting discoveries in Dan’s search history. Aside from searches for Dylan McCleen, Dan also turned up in a photograph from the 70’s after delivering a woman’s child on an airplane taken on the same day he disappeared from an airplane mid-flight and later turned up on the security cameras wearing the exact same clothes. Although this discovery baffled both men, it seemed the agent was hiding some additional information from Jack. As Dan continued to figure out his purpose in meeting the childhood version of the man who had just shot him, he slowly started to understand how Aeden grew up to become the man he did. When Dan tried to get Aeden out of his abusive situation, Papa Bennett returned home angry to learn that his son had gotten out of his locked bedroom. At the same time, Dan’s wound began to open up again. With little time to seek additional medical help, little Aeden dressed Dan’s gunshot wound (how ironic?) and Dan tried again to break through to the young boy in hopes of preventing him from growing up to be a criminal. When Livia showed up to help Dan out once again, it was clear that he needed more than just some gauze and electric tape for his injury. As she accompanied him in the ambulance, the two were transported back to 2007 to save Katie from grown-up Aeden and get Dan the modern medicine that he needed. Livia found herself at Dan’s job where Jack was meeting with Dan’s boss to discuss the facts about the FBI investigation. Hugh revealed that upon calling the FBI, he learned there was no record of an investigation of Dan Vasser. Hmm, looks like the good doctor was right! Jack caught a glimpse of Livia out of the corner of his eye and quickly excused himself to go after her. Without giving any specific details, Livia pleaded with Jack to help his brother who was severely injured somewhere in the city. Over at Dan’s house, the FBI agent showed up looking for Dan. Instead, he popped in on Aeden holding Katie hostage and Aeden shot him several times. Looks like a swift end to that investigation! As Dan woke up again in 2007 he rushed home knowing his wife was in danger. When he arrived, Dan reminded Aeden of the injured man he helped when he was younger and the good person he has the potential to become. At that point, Jack showed up with back-up and saved the day. Finally, it looks like Dan, Jack, and Katie could put the drama behind them and come together as a family, albeit still a family with some major issues. With another episode behind us, this show continues to get more interesting each week. In the past month, the series has def. taken it up a notch. If only the show started out this good, I think it would def. have the audience it needs to continue post-strike. Nevertheless, we’ve got another new episode coming to us in 2 weeks. Now that Jack truly understands what Dan has been going through, there’s no place to go but up. He’s got a police office brother to help him out, a news reporter wife, and a boss who doesn’t seem to care at all how many hours he puts in at the office. Everything’s looking peachy for our time traveler. Even the pesky FBI agent seems to be taken care of. The only thing we need now is another meeting with Dr. Langley to shed some more light on the situation. It’d also be nice if Livia and Katie have some sort of interaction coming up. Those two would have plenty to say to one another. I do have one question though, if the FBI was never really investigating Dan, does that mean nobody was actually tracking the marked money? Maybe it’s time for a nice vacation for the Vasser family after all this craziness! See y’all in 2 weeks.

This week on Journeyman, Dan’s mission began when he disappeared while taking his morning jog. He found himself in the middle of a wild rave where intoxicated partygoers (Livia included) were oblivious to the crumbling wall at the back of the room. When Dan went to investigate, he discovered a young girl shivering in the corner. Believing this to be his mission, he guided the girl to safety and brought her to the police as they busted up the rave inside. The girl’s name was Emily and everyone in the area had been searching for her. Before Dan could explain how he’d seen the kidnapper, a partygoer looking to get out of getting booked fingered Dan as the girl’s captor. The cops cuffed Dan but he vanished from the cop car before they could ask him any questions. After resurfacing in 2007, Dan caught up with Katie to have her get him out of the cuffs before anybody noticed. He found Katie leaving Zack’s school, where his teacher reported that Zack had been acting out. Meanwhile, Jack continued to try to figure out what’s been going on with his brother. His girlfriend suggested he bring Dan to the station to be checked out by a shrink but Jack seemed more intent on finally getting the truth.
During his second journey back, Dan was in a park where a sober Livia waited for him to discuss the mission. Despite knowing that his mission was to set Emily on the right path, Dan was set on also trying to bust the man who kidnapped her. Although Livia warned against it, Dan refused to believe that stopping a kidnapper could impact the time line so severely. After taking Emily to a warm place for some food and clean clothes, he left her with Livia and went off to find the kidnapper, following a lead that he worked in real estate.
Back in present day, Jack approached Dan to confront him about the counterfeit $20 bill he used in 1995. Dan recalled paying a cab driver with the bad money, which turned out to be enough proof to get Jack to start buying into Dan’s stories. Seeing this, Dan hit Jack up for some help with his current case. The brothers started their investigation and quickly confirmed their real-estate guy as the culprit. At the same time, Dan’s son continued to act out in front of Katie. Though she tries to be supportive of Dan’s journeys, having to deal with all of the family issues while he’s off fixing other people’s problems was starting to get to her.
On another journey back, Dan prevented Emily from getting busted selling Ecstasy and then went off to search for another kidnap victim. He saved another girl and got the real-estate guy arrested for his crimes. When he returned to present day, he learned that Emily went on to start her own business, but the kidnapper was let out of jail after serving his time. However, Dan’s actions in the past changed the time line, causing the conversation with Jack to have never taken place. Meanwhile, the federal agent investigating the Dylan McCleen money uncovered a number of newspaper clippings all reporting a mysterious stranger helping people in dangerous situations. We also learned that Emily went on to start her own business and the kidnapper was released from prison after serving several years. The episode ended with the kidnapper watching Dan and his family, waiting to exact his revenge.
Overall, this episode was a nice setup for next week's conclusion. I'm thinking the FBI agent will come to save the day when Dan's family is held captive by the disgruntled kidnapper.
I found it odd that in this week's show, Dan and Livia seemed to completely move past their relationship hang-ups and started making jokey comments to one another. Those two are very hot and cold. One minute Dan won't complete his mission until he gets some answers and another he's cracking jokes with her while running through the motions.
I really liked how his solving the crime in the '90s prevented the conversation with Jack from ever taking place. I also enjoyed Dan and Katie freaking when they thought Zack disappeared when his head started to hurt. I guess that will be a big worry for them, especially if it turns out that Dan's father also traveled.
Next week it looks like Livia comes to 2007 to get Jack to help Dan and his family. It figures, just as this show starts building momentum, it goes on hiatus. The future is not looking good, my friends!

A new episode of Journeyman provided us with the answers to some of the lingering questions we've had since Day 1. Not only did we see the return of Professor Langley, but even Livia opened up and started talking. It all began with a trip back to the 1970s. In the past, Dan found himself at a key party with Livia. As he mingled with the party guests and Nixon's "I am not a crook" speech played on the television, a young girl showed up looking for her parents. Poor Abigail Armstrong walked into her parents' bedroom and found her mother having sex with a man who wasn't her father. Shocked and disgusted, she fled her home never to be seen again. Back in the present, Dan finally showed up for his dinner with Katie. She's not fully supportive of her husband's journeys, and as she put it, things were finally starting to seem normal. The next day, Jack continued to discuss the Dylan McCleen cash with the feds while Dan researched Abigail's whereabouts in present day. It turns out she was last seen hitchhiking in 1973. While doing his research, an FBI agent showed up to interrogate Dan about the Dylan McCleen hijacking. It seemed his past finally caught up with him when the agent tried to show a connection between his interest in the McCleen hijacking and Dan's own disappearance from the 747 a few weeks back. When Dan returned home from a rough day at the office, he immediately went to get rid of the McCleen cash when Dr. Langley called to have a meeting. Langley seemed to believe the feds may know more than they put on about Dan's situation and warned him not to reveal anything about his traveling. Dan disappears to the '70s as Langley turns to walk away. When he looks back and sees Dan is nowhere to be found, he doesn't look the least bit surprised. He's back and finds himself on the beach along the highway; the same spot Abigail Armstrong was last seen hitchhiking before she vanished. Dan approaches Abby and prevents her from taking a ride with a stranger in a green pickup truck and instead sends her off in a VW bus with a group of hippies. In 2007 Dan comes home to find his brother waiting to discuss the stolen money, but Dan refused to hear him out and kicked him out of the house. The next morning, the feds show up to search Dan and Katie's home for evidence. In the mess they create, Katie starts rummaging though a box of stuff that belonged to Livia before she disappeared, including an old photograph. Meanwhile, Dan once again finds himself in the 1970s, at a diner with Livia sitting at a table across from the group of hippies he sent Abby off with. Realizing his mission with Abby is still not finished, he tries to persuade her not to continue tagging along with the group. She refuses. In present day, Dan checks in on Abby and discovers his attempt to prevent her disappearance instead set her on a path that led her to a life sentence in prison. Katie shows up to show Dan the photograph of Livia. At the police station, the federal agent discusses the evidence with Jack. He starts the wheels in motion for Jack to discover Dan's secret. The agent believes there's a link between the marked bills from the McCleen case and a $20 bill from the future that Jack turned in as evidence in a case from 1994 (when Dan paid a cab driver with a seemingly counterfeit bill and was chased down by his brother.) In a final trip back to the '70s, Dan and Livia turn up in a liquor store where Abby and her friends are trying to pull off a robbery. As the two try to convince Abby to back out before it's too late, Dan confronts Livia about the picture Katie found. Here's the big reveal: Livia's actual life took place during the 1940s and her traveling all takes place in the future. Her relationship with Dan was never meant to be, but when they crossed paths, she had an extended stay in Dan's present until the day she vanished from the aircraft. Before Livia could reveal anything else, they had to set things right for Abigail Armstrong. Dan uses the McCleen money in an attempt to stop the robbery. When that fails, he convinces her that following her boyfriend's orders made her no different from her mother's relationship to her father and she flees the scene just before her friends are gunned down. Dan returns to 2007 and learns that Abby went on to become a successful politician. He and Katie discuss Livia's revelation as Jack sits in a bar contemplating the odd circumstances surrounding his brother's case. This was another great episode of Journeyman. We finally learned about Livia's journeys and it looks like Jack may soon begin to understand Dan's situation. As we learn more and more, I'm becoming convinced that Dr. Langley is no good. He seemed to have a pretty devilish look on his face when he realized Dan left on another trip. I'm also coming around to Katie. She was completely calm when the feds tore through her home and she's not nearly as concerned about Dan seeing Livia as I would expect her to be. Overall, with two great episodes in a row, this show is definitely on an upswing. With next week being Part 1 of a two-parter, I'm hoping this streak continues.

Another Monday night, another Journeyman. In recent weeks, the story has been moving along quite smoothly with exception to Lyvia. Can't she get killed off already? Dan knows his deal each week now. What purpose does she serve aside from unnecessary drama in his life? Anyhow, I'm getting away from the point. Now that the cat is out of the bag with his son, and his brother has laid off his investigation, perhaps Dan could find a bit of stability in his chaotic life. If only he could figure out a way to control his trips, then it'd be just another job for him. However, if there's one thing we've learned about this show, it's that things will never be that easy for him. During a game of Monopoly, Dan's son spilled the beans about Daddy's hidden cash stash, which sent Jack into investigation mode yet again. He collected some of the bills and brought them down to his buddy at the station, who was surprised at how new the bills from the '70s appeared to be. Meanwhile, as Katie prepares to go back to work as a reporter, she and Dan need to discuss who will take care of their son. Could Katie have picked a worse time to go back to work? At least wait for Dan to be able to control his trips! As the two discussed their options, Dan disappeared to 2000 in the back of a man's car. Upon discovering Dan in the backseat, the man freaked out and kicked Dan out. Dan exited just in time to see a couple of gang members about to attack the driver. He prevented the attack from being fatal but lost his id in the process. Apparently the man was a lawyer prosecuting fellow members of the gang who shot at him. With the knowledge of where he lives, Dan's new mission was to protect himself. Thanks, Lyvia (or should I just call her Captain Obvious?). In 2007 Jack passed off Dan's cash to the FBI, who informed him they were related to the Dylan Mcleen case from 1975. Back in 2000, Dan and Lyvia staked out Dan's apartment and watched Dan's past self sneak away after telling past Katie he was exhausted. They tracked past Dan to an underground gambling spot. Unfortunately, past Dan was also being tracked by the gang members from earlier. In an attempt to save himself, Dan picked a fight with his past self. After a brief but intense fight in which Dan did not reveal his face to past Dan, Lyvia finally busted in and saved the day. Maybe she does have a purpose after all! When they bring past Dan back to his apartment, Dan recalls that the night of the poker game was the night he and Katie fell in love. She went and dragged him out of the game and the rest was history. By interfering and taking past Dan home early, Dan was risking his family's entire existence and so his mission became clear once again. As Dan and Lyvia plot their next move, for the first time in the series we watched Lyvia jump. She found herself in Dan's home in present day trying to keep Dan's present life in check while Dan tried to find money to buy his way into the poker game to make sure he and Katie fall in love. Lyvia grabbed Dylan Mcleen's cash and brought it back to Dan in 2000, thus allowing him to buy his way into the underground poker game. Mission accomplished! The episode ended with a confrontation between the FBI agent and Jack wherein Jack admitted to getting the marked cash from his brother. I must admit, this was the best episode of this show so far. I was glad to finally see how Dan and Katie got together and that Lyvia even had a hand in it. It was nice to see that although Lyvia and Dan have many unresolved issues, she stepped aside and let the future play out the way it was supposed to. Though most of you disagree, I still can't stand Jack. He wouldn't let his brother and Katie work out their own issues and now he's gotten them into an even bigger issue. I get it, he's a concerned relative who's also concerned for the well-being of his nephew, but come on! The dude's gotta have a little family loyalty, I don't care what he does for a living. He should have sought an explanation before ratting Dan out to the FBI. That's all for this week. Next week, the doctor returns to hopefully shed some more light on Dan's journeys.

At the end of last week's Journeyman, we were left with tons of questions. (Doesn't that always seem to be the case?) Is Dr. Langley good or bad? Why did he know Dan's father so well? What happens now that Dan's son has witnessed his father's disappearing act? Does Dan really think he could use Dylan Mcleen's money without any repercussions? And is a Jack and Katie reunion starting to blossom? Judging by the previews for this week's show, it seemed that the episode would explore Dan and Jack's relationship as Dan comes into contact with himself as a teenager. Let's see how it played out. The year was 1986 and A-Ha's "Take on Me" was playing on the radio in what appeared to be a mechanic's garage. Dan heard a young boy fighting with someone and went to investigate the argument. The boy is yelling some craziness about rocket-fuel ratio causing an explosion and Dan tries to help the boy's brother, who is trying to set a rocket off on a fire escape. In present day, Katie tells Zack (her and Dan's son) that he must keep his father's secret about the money and his disappearances. When Dan returns, the husband and wife discuss their options for the stolen money. Dan then goes to research his latest case. On another trip back to the '80s, Dan prevents his latest case (the two brothers Michael and Steven) from stealing a car. As he continues to roam around, he runs into Lyvia, and they discuss the status of his most recent mission, but are distracted by two boys leaving a pizza parlor. It's Jack and Dan as teenagers! Back in 2007, Dan and Katie discuss their recent financial predicament. The bank has put a hold on all of their credit cards and someone is monitoring their transactions. When Dan returns to work again, his boss grills him on his latest story, wanting to know why he had any business with Dr. Langley and if it had anything to do with a series of bombings that occurred years earlier by a group calling themselves the Global Freedom Now Group 0. This group at one time threatened Langley and Dan recalls seeing their initials on the garage back in '86. While getting an update from Michael on how his life played out, Dan learns that Steven is MIA. He asks about the initials GFNG0 and learns it was an acronym for something their dad used to call them. Bingo! Then Dan finds himself in the year 2000 when Third Eye Blind had their hit "Never Let You Go." With some assistance from Lyvia, Dan steals his brother's car and sets off to prevent a bombing at the petroleum plant. He prevents anyone from being injured in the explosion and brought the two brothers back together. The interesting twist came when Steven (the überintelligent but deranged brother) figures out Dan's secret. Also, upon returning his brother's car, Dan eavesdrops on a conversation between Jack and Katie, in which Katie tells Jack she and Dan are getting married and she's pregnant. But she isn't totally convinced she loves him. In present day, Dan returns home to find Katie and Jack together. He and his brother try to make peace once again. Back at the office, Dan gets an update from Steven, who is now convinced that time travel is not possible. Looks like his secret is still safe. Once again, I didn't love this episode. I saw the obvious parallels between the Steven-Michael relationship and the Dan-Jack relationship — it didn't really take a rocket scientist to get that one! And again, Lyvia proved herself utterly useless with the exception of her offering of a hair pin. She couldn't even help Dan figure out what year it was. I was really hoping we'd learn more about Dr. Langley. Dan's interaction with his past self was built up in the commercials and ended up being a major letdown. However, next week's mission, in which Dan must protect his past self, looks like it has a lot of potential. I'm still really iffy on this show, though. It seems to be very hit-or-miss with no in-between.

This week the Journeyman found himself caught in the middle of some spy games. While enjoying a leisurely afternoon with the family, Dan disappears in the middle of a crowd, leaving his son all alone on a busy city street. His flashback takes him to the middle of a forest with no clue as to when or where he is, except that there's a mysterious man and a suitcase full of money. The man identifies himself as Dylan McCleen. In 2007, Dan returns home to yet another confrontation with his brother and wife. It's one thing for him to disappear from his wife, but when his son is put in danger, these issues need to be addressed. At his office the next day, his boss learns that the paper is losing money and layoffs are expected. Little do they know that Dan is busy trying to solve one of the city's oldest unsolved mysteries. Just the ticket to bring his paper out of the red. On his second trip back, he follows Mr. McCleen through a dry-cleaning business as he searches for the person in a photograph. Dylan quickly realizes something's up when the same stranger he ran into in the woods in the middle of the night is now stalking him. He attacks Dan and grills him with questions, asking about his possible affiliation with the Green Berets. Back in present day, Katie is visited by a detective looking into a liquor-store robbery in which a blurry picture of Dan is the only clue. Katie covers for Dan but when he returns, the two have another discussion about his trips and his latest adventure. I say this every time, but it seems like she's starting to come around. During trip No. 3, Dan meets up with the man in the photo that Dylan McCleen is carrying. Apparently McCleen promised to bring the man's family over from Cambodia but has failed to do so up to this point. Suddenly Dan's mission becomes clear. In the middle of trying to get to the bottom of McCleen's real identity, Dan is paid a visit by Dr. Langley, the time-travel expert he contacted last week. It was a brief encounter and not much was revealed, but I think we can expect to see a lot more of this guy in future episodes. When Dan is about to take another trip, his son enters the room and watches his father vanish before his eyes. Back in time, Lyvia convinces Dan to seek his father's help with his mission despite her previous advice not to mess with the past. Although he prevented his dad from scoring the story of a lifetime (an attempted assassination of President Ford), Dan's father provides him with Dylan McCleen's real name: John Ritchie. With this knowledge, Dan reunites Ritchie with the man in his photograph so he can follow through on his promise to bring the man's family to the U.S. While it may end up costing him his job, Dan protects McCleen's real identity and returns home to make good with his family once again. This episode was definitely a major improvement from last week. I've pretty much given up hope that Lyvia will gives us any useful answers, but the addition of Dr. Langley's character could make up for that. I also like that Dan's son has now witnessed his disappearing act. It was getting really annoying that not a single person had commented on watching a man vanish into thin air. Plus, now we don't have to see the baffled look on that little boy's face when his daddy is nowhere to be found. I really hope the writers keep this going, and judging by next week's previews when Dan runs into a teenage version of himself, it seems as though they just might be able to.

A new episode of Journeyman set things in motion this week by bringing us right into Dan's latest trip. With the Spin Doctors playing in the background, we could only assume it is some time in the early '90s. Dan makes his way into a bar to find a younger version of his wife reporting the news on TV. He learns the year is actually 1994 before getting interrupted by a woman sitting at the bar who is waiting for a blind date. Just as the two get acquainted, the woman's angry ex busts into the bar and attacks Dan. Thus begins another mission for the Journeyman. In 2007, Katie is preparing for a benefit that she desperately hopes her husband will be around to attend. Their marriage has been on the rocks since the start of these adventures and has only worsened when she discovered that Dan has been seeing Lyvia on his trips back in time. Though she's starting to come around with the whole time-traveling thing, she can't help but feel jealous that Dan has been in contact with his first love. When he vanishes once again, she turns to his brother (and her ex) Jack to get her to the benefit on time. As Dan continues to trek back to the '90s, his mission starts to become clear. The woman he had met at the bar in 1994 is now engaged to her blind date and is being stalked by the same creepy ex who beat up Dan during their first encounter. After doing some research in present day, Dan learns the woman was murdered and her ex was arrested for the crime. However, all is not what it seems. In a trip back to 1998, Dan sees the same woman get a gun pulled on her by her fiancé, who seems to be after a disk she has. Dan prevents the woman from being shot and as they escape together, he returns to present day, a few hours late to his wife's benefit, looking bloody and disheveled. At the party, he's confronted by his brother, who is still in the dark about what Dan's been going through. Cue another trip back to 1998. Dan frantically tries to reach the woman he's been sent to save. He watches Lyvia interact with past Katie in an attempt to distract her from seeing Dan. Dan and Lyvia chat again. (I missed what they said due to a test with the emergency broadcast system... can someone fill me in?) Dan catches up with his mission's stalker ex and enlists his help to save her from her new man. They arrive just in time to watch her shoot her fiancé. Dan uses the gun he had taken from the past earlier and plants it in the hands of the victim. He finds himself back at his wife's benefit, just in time to make things right for this week. I was completely baffled with the turn the show took in this episode. In each of the previous episodes we learned that Dan's missions all went on to do important things for humanity. In this episode, the woman was involved in a project with online stocks. They spent no time explaining exactly how this helps in present day, as we were not given any kind of update with what the woman currently does in 2007. I have to say, this is probably the worst of the episodes so far. We had more of Lyvia being the jealous ex and a much less interesting mission than usual. The only engaging plot point was Dan looking into the phenomenon of particles moving faster than the speed of light. He was put in contact with a scientist who was somehow able to call him while he was in the past. Hopefully this little twist will add that certain something that seems to be missing from the show.

When we last left the Journeyman, his MRI had come back clean and his wife was still not totally convinced about his trips through time. We've gotten very little from Lyvia about her own experiences hopping around in the past, and Dan has still not figured out how to control his own jumps. We're also waiting to find out how Dan went from being engaged to Lyvia to stealing his brother's girlfriend. I've said it once and I'll say it again: This show has way too much going on! Nevertheless, on to this week's show. Just as he's about to get some lovin' in the shower from the wifey, Dan has another one of his uncontrollable time leaps. Before even finding out what year it is, he finds himself smack in the middle of a kidnapping attempt by a nerdy attorney named Alan Pratt. Shortly after, he's back at work in present day. The only thing we learn is that a 15-minute trip for Dan equals three hours in real time. Using his skills as an investigative reporter, Dan figures out that he had traveled back to 1989, the year of the big earthquake that rocked San Francisco. He soon finds himself back in '89 (note: this was his first time traveling back to the same year), and he's face-to-face with Lyvia again. This time we learn that Lyvia was traveling before she met Dan, it stopped once they met, and then it started again when she got on the plane to leave. Dan also tries to warn city officials about the horrible event about to take place, but with no success. In this trip back we also learn that Alan Pratt has a gambling addiction (the real reason people were trying to kidnap him) and Dan thinks bringing him in on an underground poker game may help him get over his addiction. Back in 2007, Katie confronts Dan with her fears regarding his journeys (specifically when he's traveling back to the day of one of the country's worst natural disasters). Dan also tries to find out from his brother how he might be able to convince someone of an approaching disaster without sounding like a complete loon. On his third trip back to 1989, Dan concentrates more on saving lives then helping the loser with a gambling problem despite Lyvia's advice otherwise. While chatting it up with Lyvia, he ditches her in an attempt to save the life of his boss' sister. Unwillingly, however, he finds himself stuck with Alan Pratt once again. In present day, Dan tries to squeeze info out of his boss about his sister (someone more deserving of his assistance), but his boss is more eager for Dan to make the deadline on his latest assignment. It seems his job is finally in question after weeks of this disappearing act. He asks his wife to take care of his current assignment while he works on his mission in the past. As time grows closer to when the tremor hits, Dan meets with his boss' sister and get her to meet for drinks in an attempt to keep her from traveling through the tunnel where she is scheduled to die. Lyvia catches up with Dan at the bar and it accidentally slips that he is married to Katie now. As Lyvia begins to sound like a jealous ex, Dan's date arrives and realized she's interrupting something serious. She flees the scene. Meanwhile, Katie has lunch with Dan's brother Jack who tries to convince her he's back at the tables (a gambler and a drinker?). How does questioning the prediction of earthquakes lead someone to believe you have a gambling addiction? What kind of bookie takes those bets? Anyhow, after some failed attempts to save other lives, Dan tries to investigate what happened to Alan Pratt. It turns out that a few days after the earthquake, he killed himself in a motel room to escape his gambling debts. After trying to force himself back to 1989, Dan finally reaches his destination just in time for the big quake. Rather then save someone from the quake, Dan's mission is to make sure Alan is involved in it, which would give him the jump-start he needs to turn his life around. Alan spends the rest of his days fighting wrongful convictions of innocent prisoners. As the episode comes to a close and Dan returns home, he walks into his wife holding the watch that Lyvia handed to him in 1989. Watching this week's show, a few thoughts came to mind. It seems as though each trip for Dan comes just in time to disrupt his attempts to make things right with his wife. It's as if the space/time continuum is trying to ruin his marriage. I also can't stand Dan's brother. He's way too quick to blame Dan's odd behavior on addictions, instead of actually trying to use his police training to get to the bottom of it. And as many of you have already pointed out, how does he still have a job? He disappears for hours on end and when he's actually in the office he spends his time checking out old newspaper clippings. Worst employee ever! Thoughts?

It's Monday night and time for another zany trip through time with the Journeyman. After last week's premiere, it seemed like Dan's wife actually bought into his story about traveling back in time to help Neil Gaines' son come into existence. This week, Katie shifted her suspicion of drug use to something a little more serious: a brain tumor. Apparently a week had passed without any more "delusions" of time travel but just to be on the safe side, they went to see a neurologist before heading off on a well-needed vacation. Shortly after take off however, our man Dan was back to his old tricks. This time, his leap back took him to the swingin' '70s on board an airplane where a pregnant woman was about to give birth. I'm really enjoying how the writers are re-creating the past by tossing in random things like Conquest of the Planet of the Apes as the in-flight movie or just the fact that people were allowed to smoke on airplanes back then. There were overly friendly flight attendants (or "stewardesses" as they were called.) Even the children playing with toy guns is something you would never see on any airplane today. By the way, anyone notice the headline on the newspaper? "Ford Cabinet Shakeup Continues"... with the subtext "Cheney, Chief of Staff; Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defense." A nice way of showing us that things ain't that different after all. In the mean time, Katie Vasser, the time traveler's wife, dealt with some drama in 2007 when the flight crew grew suspicious of the missing passenger seated next to her. While Dan delivered a healthy baby girl, his wife was subjected to some intense questioning from airport security. Dan returned just in the nick of time to save his wife from being shipped off to Guantanamo. As Dan and Katie returned home from an exhausting day and a failed attempt to get a little downtime, Dan was off once again. He awoke to Lyvia standing over him, but before he could ask any questions, the reunited couple had a long embrace. In this little encounter, we didn't get much out of Lyvia. She told him to start carrying old phones, expired currency, but apparently no citrus (it explodes... naturally!). Dan quickly got back on track with his mission, this time in the 1980s, and got to know the woman he helped almost a decade earlier. Following this short trip back, Dan returns to 2007 and begins prepping for his next journey. He also decides to wander into work for a bit. He uses his resources at the news desk to check on his latest mission and her whereabouts in present day. It turns out Diana Bloom is dead. He then eagerly tries to force a trip back. Back in the '90s, Dan helps Diana's daughter meet her father, who turns out to be a complete bastard. He insists the girl's mother was just a one-night stand and forces money into her hands to prevent future attempts to contact him. In a last-ditch effort to save his present-day marriage before another trip back, Dan gets his brother to take care of his son while he and his wife try once more at that vacation. Before he could make any progress though, he finds himself on another airplane in 1995. He finds Lyvia once again and jumps right into some hardcore questioning. She seems to be more interested in his present life than giving him any resolution to the situation they both find themselves in. As Lyvia vanishes again, Dan takes her seat on the flight directly next to the a-hole father that denied his own daughter only a year earlier. Turns out he now has leukemia and is in need of a bone-marrow transplant. Dan lands and tracks down Diana's now drug-addicted daughter and convinces her to give her deadbeat dad a final shot at redemption. The big twist at the end of the episode is that the bone-marrow transplant is not actually for the deadbeat dad but for another patient who goes on to fly humanitarian missions to Darfur. Now that we're two episodes into this show, it seems like each episode will be about Dan fixing broken families while his own is on the verge of falling apart. After last week, I was kinda hoping Katie would suspend her disbelief, buy into her husband's little game, and maybe actually help him solve some of the cases. However, it seems like he'll have to do a bit more convincing than burying an engagement ring or completely vanishing from an airplane midflight. I was also pretty disappointed we didn't get more out of Lyvia. I understand that the writers can't reveal everything at once but at least give us something to work with. If we're to believe Lyvia has been time-traveling since her supposed death, how has she not learned a thing about the purpose behind these missions? Judging by the comments last week, this episode was the make-or-break for most people watching, and something tells me it was a bit of a disappointment for those viewers who were on the fence. I, however, will continue on this crazy ride in the hopes of getting some retribution for my dedicated viewing. I just hope I don't end up having to watch the rest of the season on the Web when, and if, the network decides to pull the plug. I've still got my doubts!

In the months leading up to last night's series premiere of Journeyman, most of the buzz surrounding the show seemed to pigeonhole it as a Quantum Leap wannabe. A lot of the people I spoke to had written it off as just another unoriginal idea from Hollywood with little chance of success. To be honest, once I saw they had cast Moon Bloodgood, one of the key players in last season's attempt to mess with the space-time continuum, Daybreak, I too had my doubts. Nevertheless, I've always been a sucker for time travel (anyone else catch Ben Kingsley in Sound of Thunder?) So regardless of popular opinion, I had to check it out. Meet Dan Vasser. He's a family man, a reporter and a dude with some serious blackout issues. Just as he's about to hop in a taxi to celebrate his wedding anniversary with the missus, he has a bizarre trip back in time to watch the end of a classic ballgame and to catch one last glimpse of his lost love Livia before she supposedly dies in a plane crash. Not a terribly long trip back in time but just long enough to freak him out a bit when he finally shows up to his anniversary dinner a few hours later. He chalks it all up to a weird dream and goes on with his life in present day. However, not soon after he and his wife "reaffirm" their love for each other that very night, he's off on another crazy adventure through time. This time he awakens to find himself among the homeless in Golden Gate Park. He runs back to his home to find a stranger living there and learns that the year is actually 1987. Meanwhile, back in 2007, his wife Kate is frantically searching for him and goes to his brother for help. His brother suggests that perhaps he's left her for another woman, but since his only other love Livia died nine years earlier, she's positive it's something else. As Dan wanders around 1987 San Francisco, we're treated to random pop-culture references, like a billboard for the movie Less Than Zero. While roaming the streets, he stumbles on a man about to throw himself in front of a trolley. It suddenly clicks in his mind that perhaps he's back in a time for a reason, so he uses the opportunity to do some good and save the man's life. By the time he finds his way back to 2007, he learns he's been gone for two days and his wife now suspects that he's on some mind-altering substance. He also learns that the man he saved back in '87 is alive and well in present day and his name is Neil Gaines. He tries frantically to get some answers but is ripped from his present life into the past yet again. It's the '80s again and this time Neil Gaines finds himself in another predicament. It seems he's gotten a girl pregnant and she'd rather get rid of the child than start a family with him. Our man Dan convinces her not to. After another successful fix in Neil Gaines' life, Dan finds his own life in shambles. His wife has staged an intervention for him, believing drugs were responsible for his car crashing into a telephone pole during his last trip. As he tries to learn more about the family he has single-handedly created, he's sent back again to do another fix. It's 1997; Sarah McLachlan and Oasis have hit songs and Dan is living with his fiancée Livia. Now here's where things get interesting! As Dan is leaving Livia at their apartment, he steps outside to find her standing in the hallway. She briefly explains to him that she "left" before her plane went down and that he can't meddle during these little trips. Just when we think he's gonna get some answers, she vanishes once again, leaving him and all of us wondering what is going on. Now that he knows his mission, Dan concentrates all of his energy on figuring out this Neil Gaines enigma. So far he's saved Neil's life and the life of his unborn child, but something's still not right with Mr. Gaines. His marriage is in shambles and he seems to be on the verge of a psychotic episode. As Neil is about to kill his wife and child for trying to leave him, he is hit by a car, making all Dan's efforts seem pointless. In 2007, however, Neil's son goes on to save a school bus full of children. Mission accomplished! And just to cover all his ground, Dan has something in mind to prove to his wife he wasn't on drugs and had actually been on time traveling: He buries her wedding ring under their deck years before it had been built, along with a newspaper from 1997. The premiere ends with a loving embrace between the couple as Katie finally starts to believe her husband's stories. Overall, I think we're getting off to a good start. The pilot left a lot of unanswered questions that will undoubtedly be developed over the season. I wonder, though: Is there perhaps too much going on? In addition to trying to figure out his mission each episode, he will attempt to learn why he has been given this task, all while trying to maintain a stable home environment. I just hope the show lasts long enough to provide some of these answers. It's going to be quite the journey.
