Read Community Issues
Hello,

Some of you might have noticed that there were problems posting or viewing messages this morning.

These problems were the result of an upgrade to our servers. The problems should be resolved now.

If you are still encountering difficulties, please be sure to clear your Web browser's cache (go to tools->options->delete files->OK in Internet Explorer; tools->Clear Private Data->Clear Private Data Now in Firefox)
so that you will see the the most recent version of this site.

We regret any inconvenience this may have caused and thank all of you for being part of the TV Guide.com Community.
Read Community Reminders
There's been a lot of questions lately about what should and should not be on the website. In general, the idea is that every member of the community is solely responsible for what they say.

Having said that, it's also clear that we need a few rules here.

Chief among these is that personal attacks are not permitted from one member to another.

Criticize each other's opinions (That's a stupid idea; You are a stupid person is not) but do not insult the other person.

We respect that opinions about shows, actors, movies and more can be heated. but we ask that everyone please adhere to the rules above.

In addition, if there's someone that you just can't stand the sight of, please remember that you can go to that user's profile and click on the Ignore Member button.

In addition, users are not permitted to post links to sites which they are seeking to profit from. We permit links to sites that provide information to other users, but commercial use of the community is not permitted.

Finally, if you see any content that you believe is in violation of our Terms of Use, we ask that you please contact us via the "Report Abuse" link that appears below every posting. This will allow our site's moderators to review and make a decision based on whether it complies with our standards.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Read Login Issue - Update
Just a quick update to let everyone here know that the login issue we'd been having for the past several days appears to be fixed. The issue was that when you logged in, you were tossed back to the TV Guide.com homepage, rather than the page you logged into. There was an error there, but it's been fixed and seems to be ok now. As always, we regret any inconvenience this has caused.

Read AOL Users and Log In Problems
Hi,

I know that some of you have had problems using AOL and logging into the site for quite some time now.

Our community development team has been looking into the problem, though there is the chance that it's something to do with changes AOL made to its software.

Dorothy, a member here, discussed her issues with AOL and received the following. While their first suggestion helped her, I can't guarantee that these will work, but hope they will help. (Big thanks to Dorothy for sharing her solution with us -- the first AOL recommendation on the list worked best for her.)

If you encounter problems doing this or need more help, please contact AOL directly.

Thanks,

David Flores

"There are several possible causes for this, so I have provided a number of solutions.

After trying one solution, check to see if it resolves your issue. If it does not, please try the next solution listed. I recommend that you save or print a copy of this e-mail for future reference.

Also, If you need further assistance, please return to AOL Keyword: Live Help and we will be more than happy to assist you.

A. DELETE TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES AND COOKIES AND RESTORE DEFAULT SETTINGS FOR BROWSER

Click on START, PROGRAMS or ALL PROGRAMS then click on INTERNET EXPLORER. From the Internet Explorer window that appears, click TOOLS, then select INTERNET OPTIONS.

Under Browsing History, click on the DELETE button then click on the DELETE ALL button from the next window that appears then click on CLOSE.

Click the ADVANCED tab then click RESTORE ADVANCED SETTINGS. Click the SECURITY tab then click on DEFAULT LEVEL, then APPLY and OK button to save the changes. Close the Internet Options window.

B. INITIATE KEYWORD: BROWSER FIX TO ACTIVATE TUNNELING
Tunneling allows the use of the Internet, which is a public network, to convey data on behalf of a private network.

1. Go to AOL© Keyword: Browser Fix. This shows the message with 0, confirming that tunneling has been turned on within the client.
2. Shut down the AOL© software, then restart the computer.

NOTE: If this does not correct the problem, please return to AOL Keyword: Browser Fix to turn tunneling off. A message with a "1" will appear, confirming that tunneling has been turned off.

C. REBUILD THE AOL© ADAPTER
A damaged AOL Adapter may cause this issue. Windows© networking requires that a network adapter exist for any application that must access the Internet. The AOL software uses the AOL Adapter to access the Internet.

1. Sign off and close the AOL software.
2. On the end of the Windows© taskbar next to the clock, click the AOL© icon, then click SYSTEM INFORMATION.

NOTE: If the AOL icon is not displayed, click the START button, select PROGRAMS or ALL PROGRAMS, select AMERICA ONLINE, then click AOL SYSTEM INFORMATION.

3. Click the OK button.
4. Click the UTILITIES tab.
5. In the AOL UTILITIES section, next to AOL ADAPTER, click the REBUILD button.
6. Click the OK button.
7. Click the CLOSE button.
8. Restart the computer and launch the AOL software again. The AOL Adapter will be rebuilt automatically.

D. RUN AOL© QUICK RESTORE
The Quick Restore feature allows you to reset the AOL software to a default state. It's faster than reinstalling the AOL software. The AOL software will automatically search for and select the right connection device and, if you are using a dial-up modem, guide you through selecting the proper phone number and dialing options. This process is a lot faster than checking to make sure everything is setup correctly.

1. On the Windows© taskbar next to the clock, click the AOL© icon, then click SYSTEM INFORMATION.

NOTE: If the AOL icon is not displayed, click the START button, select PROGRAMS or ALL PROGRAMS, select AMERICA ONLINE, then click AOL© SYSTEM INFORMATION.

2. Click the OK button.
3. On the AOL SOFTWARE tab, click the QUICK RESTORE button.
4. Click the OK button. The program will automatically close any open AOL programs and refresh the client.
5. Click the CLOSE button.

NOTE: After running Quick Restore, the AOL software may be selected as your default Web application. Some Web applications and Auto-AOL sessions may need to be reset. However, Favorite Places and e-mail saved in the Personal Filing Cabinet will not be lost.

E. UNINSTALL AND REINSTALL THE AOL SOFTWARE

To do a clean install of the AOL software, which prevents problems from one copy of AOL from being carried over to the new copy, you should uninstall AOL (be sure to follow the onscreen instructions to backup your information). Then install AOL again.

Also, when you uninstall the AOL software, you will be given an option to saved your files (Filing Cabinet) to a folder on your Windows Desktop.

UNINSTALL AND REINSTALL THE AOL SOFTWARE USING THE NEW AOL UNINSTALLER
1. Click on START, CONTROL PANEL then ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. Click AOL UNINSTALLER to highlight it, then click the CHANGE/REMOVE button.
2. Click the SEARCH FOR OLDER VERSIONS OF AOL link.
3. Click the AOL 9.0 box to place a check mark in it, then click the UNINSTALL button. Your Filing Cabinet files will automatically be stored on the desktop in a Saved on AOL folder.
4. Click the YES button.
5. Click the RESTART button to restart your computer.

Then download a new copy of AOL from http://daol.aol.com/software/upgrade or use an AOL CD for installation. "
Read Where Do You Go To Watch TV?
So the National Football League season started last night with the Colts victory over the Saints last night.

For those of us without big screen TVs and friends who particularly care about football (sorry soccer fans, that's what we call it, despite the paucity of feet touching balls), it means going out to find a place with a big screen and ready access to, um, beverages.

Where do you go? Do you go over to friends houses to watch or do you gather with strangers to hang out at a local watering hole.

If you don't watch sports do you ever go to a particular resturant or bar to watch your favorite sci-fi, drama or comedy show?

Let us know.

BTW: We did some looking and found a great list of establishments where you can watch the pigskin. Here's some NYC area ones.

Read An Anniversary: Free Stuff, New Stuff …
For those of you who might not have known or noticed, the first year of the TV Guide.com Community was celebrated recently.

Back then we said this was the “place for lively blogs and conversation about TV.” And we’re happy to say it’s been all that and quite a bit more. We’ve added groups, message boards and (coming soon) video blogs. Thanks to all of you for making this the place to talk about TV and entertainment on the Web.

And for those of you who weren’t here at the beginning, here are some recollections from members Sassafras and Fi about what it was like back then.

We’d also like to remind everyone that Video and Video Blogging is coming to the community. This will give everyone a chance to put their opinions and creativity on display. Want to just sit in front of a camera and share your thoughts about the latest episode of your favorite show? Now you can do that right here.

If you’re a TV Guide.com Community member and need a webcam (Windows only), we’re offering them free for a very limited time. Write to us at community@tvguide.com.

Finally, some of you have written to ask what’s going on with the little symbols at the end of each of your messages. Those symbols are to what are sometimes referred to as social bookmarking sites. These sites, Digg, del.icio.us, Stumbleupon, Google, Technorati and Yahoo all allow you to share your TV.Guide, com blog along with your other favorite sites with the rest of the Internet’s users.

And that’s just some of what’s going on here. We're looking foward to making improvements and revisions that will help you enjoy TV Guide.com even more in the year to come.

Here’s to another year, thanks to all of you!
