Many, many apologies for this blog being so late. I’m still not feeling well & RealLife has been a BigDamnWendigo since I got back. I didn’t have a ton of time to get this together, so please forgive the “drive-by” quality of my blog. *grin*
Creation Entertainment’s Salute to Supernatural, Smallville & Buffy & Angel was a great convention. Lots of fun, lots of activity, lots (& lots) of squee!
I drove to
Metalligirl’s house & then played Sam to her Dean (Scully to her Mulder, Riggs to her Murtaugh, Beth to her Mick...oh you get the picture!) for the drive to Chicago. We were also roomies for the convention, which meant very little sleep because of all the fangirling we were doing! We even watched The Pilot episode on my portable dvd player one night…errr, morning!
We hooked up with
SJJCM & met
Pentagram Friday evening while enjoying drinks in the lobby bar. As
SJ said, the Nurples were quite yummy, but I’m really more of a beer-drinker myself. There’s no way I’d drink Nurples all evening & end up with a male version of Starla! Oh wait…according to Sam’s POV, wouldn’t
Dean be the male version of Starla (except for the “just tryin’ ta keep the liquor down” part that is!)?!
That would just be perfectly okie dokie, now wouldn’t it!! We were able to pre-register Friday evening & get an early look at the vendor merchandise. Lots & lots of Supernatural stuff. Pictures, banners, t-shirts, etc.
Saturday started the “real” events. Samantha Ferris was the first Q&A. Let me tell you right now (
Rod, you listening?!), Sam is, hands down, the coolest broad on the planet!! She is funny, smart, talented, & oodles more attractive than they make her out to be as Ellen. As we all know, Ellen was supposed to return in episode 14, but that is up in the air now, due to the strike. Hopefully, things will be resolved soon & we’ll get our favorite female ass-kicker back! Sam was a lot of fun & seemed genuinely touched & surprised by all the love the fans were showing her.
After the Q&A, it was time for the photo-op with Sam. She couldn’t have been nicer! She was so sweet & asked my name. I told her how much Ellen was missed. She was so down to Earth, so “normal” that I almost couldn’t believe it.
Psssst…..
Rod, dude, you are
SO going next time Sam is at one of these conventions. She was AWESOME!
The next Q&A we went to was the BigBad himself…the YED…Fredric Lehne. As you’ve seen from other videos & pics, he walked out with a guitar & sang
Sympathy for the Devil. Fred put on a great Q&A. He told jokes & stories from the various shows that he has appeared on. “Fred”…hmmmm...just isn’t as scary as YED, now is it?!
After Fred was Nicholas Brendon (Xander, from Buffy). His Q&A was pretty funny & a fan got him to do the Snoopy dance, which was hilarious!
After that was the photo-op with YED. “Hi. I’m Fred” with a handshake & a hug. The man was so nice & soooooo non-threatening! He had a grin on his face throughout the whole thing. I’ll tell you what…I may never be able to see Fred as “evil” again, no matter what character he plays.
The autograph session for Sam, Fred, & Nicholas was scheduled after that. Boy, did that take for-freakin-EVER!!!!!! It was worth the wait though. They each personalized what they autographed (you provided your own items) & chatted for a bit. They were all super nice, even though they must have been exhausted by that point in the evening.
After the autographs, we went out to the hotel lobby to get a drink & a bite to eat before the Steve Carlson concert. As we were sitting there, who should appear, but Samantha Ferris & a friend! They got a drink & sat about 10 feet away from us! Out in the open! Mingling with the great unwashed! See? Totally awesome! When we decided to go back to our seats for the concert, we stopped by Sam’s table & I told her again how much we (the fans) enjoyed her on the show & that we were hoping to see her back again soon & often. Hey
Rod? If you can admit your mancrush, then I guess I can admit to having a girlcrush on Sam (& Sera Gamble as well). She is just that cool!
Time for the concert. Steve Carlson & his guitar. I said this on
Panns’s
SCREAM blog, but Steve is my latest OoL. I thought he was AWESOME! We were hoping Jensen would sing, but alas, it wasn’t meant to be.
Sunday was
The Big Day. We started out with the photo-op with Jensen. I’m pausing this blog for a major squeeage explosion.
Oh. My. GOD!!!! Let me tell you something…all those gorgeous pictures we’ve seen of him? They do not do the man justice! Holy crap! He is simply STUNNING up close & in person. Those eyes, those lips, that skin!!!! The eyelashes!!!! The freckles!!!! *is hyperventilating* Paper, not plastic, I know. But…OMFG!!!!!!! Yes, I promise to return the
!!!! when I am finished abusing them.
Metalligirl described his skin as
translucent & I think that is a perfect adjective for it!
I shook his hand (heeee!!) & introduced myself. I told him what a great job I thought he was doing on the show. He was so sweet!!! He said thank you; I said thank you, & managed to
NOT molest the Pretty on my way out of the photo-op. That was probably the most satisfying 30 seconds of my entire life! I’ll take
that kind of quickie any day!!!!!
We then got in right back in line for Jared’s photo-op. The dude is hilarious! He really is a ginormous Puppy. I shook hands with him & told him how much I loved the show. He put his arm around me; I put my arm around him (squee!) & we took the picture. What a doll! Yes, he is firm all over!
Gabs! I had JaredSweat on my hand!!!! *giggles*
Jensen’s Q&A came first, followed by Jared’s. Then they were together for the last bit. They were hilarious, both on their own & together. Jensen is definitely the straight man to Jared’s goofball. They really play well off of each other & it was fascinating to watch their interactions. The joint Q&A was almost like being a fly on the wall when Jared & Jensen are hanging out together during their downtime. The little “skit” they put on in their Texas accents was hysterical.
The presentation by Master Sergeant Kevin Wise was extremely touching & you could tell that both boys were very moved by it. I was in tears during the entire exchange.
The autographs came after the Q&A. They were really hustling people through the line (think hall monitors in junior high) but it was still awesome to see the boys up close again!
We stayed for the Steve Carlson Q&A. He was pretty funny. Steve is another FoJ, like Jason Manns & Christian Kane (Lindsey, from Angel). FoJ means Friend of Jensen…kudos to
Metalligirl for that one! He used to live with Jensen. Steve & Christian are founding members of the band Kane. Steve’s song
Night Time is heard in the opening bar scene of Provenance.
Then
Metalligirl & I ate dinner & headed out to the hockey game. The Red Wings were in town & I sure didn’t want to pass up an opportunity to see my boys play! They lost (sniff), but I wasn’t all that upset since 2 of my boys (Lang & Williams), who now play for the ‘Hawks, had 2 assists each. Hey, it’s all good! The United Center is a really cool arena & we had excellent seats. I’ll be going back there for more games in the future. That’s something to think about for next year’s convention, if any of you are hockey fans. We could get a group together for a field trip!
Bonus Celebrity Sighting #1: Anteka of Plastic!WinchesterTheater fame.
Double Bonus Points because she had the Plastic!Boys with her!!!!!!!! Andie was very cool & very generous, allowing people to take pictures of & with the Plastic!Boys. We chatted with her a couple of different times.
Bonus Celebrity Sighting #2: Sandra McCoy!! Yes, as you've heard, Sandy was there. She was sitting off to the side during the autograph session, so as we left, we got her autograph also & told her that we enjoyed seeing her on the show. She’s even more beautiful in person. She was also very sweet & gracious, & giggled a bit while giving her autograph.
Bonus Celebrity Sighting #3: Joan Cusack at the hockey game. I believe she was doing the ceremonial puck drop.
Bonus Celebrity Sighting #4: Kid Rock, also at the hockey game. He was in town for a show. Plus, he is buddies with Chris Chelios of the Red Wings.
Yeah, yeah, yeah…I know those last 2 aren’t connected to Supernatural at all, but it was part of the whole weekend experience!
I had a great time at the convention. It was a lot of fun meeting & spending time with some of our fellow TVGuide bloggers (
Metalligirl,
SJJCM,
Pentagram), as well as fans from other sites. Special thanks to
Metalligirl for driving! I’ll drive next time. I might even investigate renting our own Metallicar for the trip!
The dates for the next Chicago convention are November 14-16, 2008. I’m waiting to see who Creation signs as guests before I buy my tickets, but I think it would be a lot of fun to have a large group of us from the TVGuide Community there, so mark your calendars now!
I’m totally serious. Start saving your pennies & planning your vacation days for 2008.
Please be sure to frequent the
SuperWiki page that
TanaLT was kind enough to post a blog about earlier. There are all sorts of convention goodies being added to it. I highly recommend _sin_attract’s video page.
Hmmmmm…this really did start out as a drive-by blog, but then I guess I loitered a bit.
Here is the
link to my Photobucket so you can see the autographs. I will load more pics as soon as I can. *crosses fingers that the link works*
Psssst…
MG, I’ve been playing that Bad Company cd non-stop since leaving your house!
