Stop the world, I want to get off
Record Player
iPOD
Thor recently blogged about the impending deaths of VCRs and Tapes. This is akin to pantaloons and wire corsets going by the wayside. Whew! Dodged a HUGE bullet there!
My question is, are things progressing too fast for your liking?
Last Century we put a man on the moon; broke the sound barrier and I have thousands of dollars of vinyl records (priceless to me) collecting dust in my parents' basement (waay to protect your investment Vee).
Since I graduated from High School in the 80s, cell phones have emerged from their cocoons of Maxwell Smart's shoe phone and everyone - including 10 year Boy has one.
Things have changed so much in a relatively short period of time - my lifetime - that I sometimes can actually feel the earth rotating. Don't get me wrong, I like progress, but I do like to stop now and then to smell the roses.
Am I alone, or do I need motion sickness meds?

I agree Vee somethimes I feel like I'm drowing in information and technology. There is not enough time in the day to set and watch my DVR and everything I record, I got an Ipod for Christmas haven't had time to load it yet, took months to get my computer up and running.

It's funny you posted this today. I just had a conversation with my 80 year Gram about the whole concept of self check out at the grocery store. She's afraid of it. Actually both she and my Mom are techno-phobes now. My Mom could program the VCR we had back in the early 80s that was more complicated than flying a 747 but she can't (maybe won't is a better word) figure out the remote control for their new TV. *rolls eyes*

My only problem is the lack of mankind's ability to keep up with the changes or maybe it's the way we adapt, which isn't always in a good way. I saw a futurist once, about twenty-five years ago and he predicted a lot of what has come to pass. He didn't do it from a crystal ball, but by watching trends and developing science. I remember him distinctly saying as we become 'high tech' we will have to become 'high touch' or lose our humanity. I feel like some of it has already been lost. You don't have to look any farther than this site to see how reporting entertainment has become very high tech and very intrusive. Still, read the posts of people who want to judge and malign (without proof mind you) people like Brittany Spears or Tom Cruise. I'm not big fans of either of them, but what can happen to the two of them can happen to anyone. It's like a virtual witch hunt these days. The thing making it this way is the veil of anonymity we fall behind when we are online - being high tech and no kind of touch.
I still believe in progress. I still would love to have better than I do. But if it were all lost tomorrow we would survive.

With a hot brunette sitting in the passesnger seat no less. Starman.

Joey - I'm still learning iPOD and Play Station and PSP. Now Boy wants a WII. Excuse me? I looked it up and yes, I am amazed but whatever happened to Pacman?
Fi - my mom won't go near the interent. She's happy with her newspaper and magazines along with Network news for her information, not to mention word of mouth.

Cindy - I believe God gives revelations to people and they don't know it.
Rod Serling was a visionary. When they run Twilight Zone marathons, I am amazed at some of the technology on the show that we have (and take for granted)
Its just a matter of time before the world of the Jetsons becomes a reality.

Pre Flat screen TV

That is the TOP reason I stay primarily in this neighborhood. The nasty snarks, the downright insulting, demeaning junk out in the open - I can't stand it anymore. I made the mistake of reading a differnt blog not associated with TV Guide and - Youser! Brutal.
Take away their anonymity and watch how quickly these types of comments disappears.
I was a little apprehensive in revealing my name and stuff about myself when I joined the BFZ, but I have nothing to hide. I am who I am. I am intitled to my opinions and beliefs and you can take me as I am - or not. I'm cool with it.

Good morning, Rev! I work on a computer all day, but I definitely feel overwhelmed with some of the technology that surrounds me. For instance, we built a new house a year ago. We have surround sound systems, flat screen TV's, a gas fireplace, a heat pump system, VCR's, etc. They ALL have different remotes. Approximately 68 of them. Okay, maybe not quite that many. It just seems like that many. For a long time I couldn't even turn on a freaking TV in my own house without reaching new levels of frustration!!! By all that's holy, just give me an on/off switch somebody, please!!!

Too funny!
I'd trade you a light switch for one of your flat screens TVs any day, Susie.

You've got a deal!!! Would you want to take over the payments too? Because I'm pretty sure none of them are actually paid off yet!

Interesting topic. I do feel this way from time to time. But I'm trying to look at it this way - we've either got to keep up - or we'll fall behind.
Friday morning, my flip switch that allowed me to use two computers with one keyboard, mouse and monitor quit working. So I had to untangle all of the wires and reconnect everything. Found it exhausting and mentally draining.
I've given up and am waiting for a Blackberry at work. Not because I want one, but because I'm afraid not to have one.
On the other hand - I'm ready for technology that allows the house to clean itself.......

You're definitely not alone in your thinking Rev. I always feel like I'm chasing a bus trying to figure everything out. There's so many things I don't know anything about and they're all so expensive when they first come out that by the time I do get them they're already obsolete or just about. LOL.

Between this and Cindy's wish for a dinner making machine (not a stove), I'm sold on technology too.
My complaint is just the need to catch my breath and enjoy these new technological improvements.
