Project Runway Season 5 Premier
I couldn’t wait to watch the new season of one of my favorite shows, Project Runway. The fifth season premiered last night and introduced a new cast of designers. After popping some bottles of champagne the designers were woken up by Tim Gunn at 4 a.m. Tim brought the designers to the supermarket Gristedes, and immediately the designers knew what their first challenge was. A repeat of season 1, the designers had to make an outfit strictly out of items found in Gristedes. Many designers took the easy way out and chose tablecloth, but they would soon find out that this was not a wise choice. Some other items chosen included mop heads, Solo cups, and trash bags.
Back in the studio, the designers quickly got to work. Tim came in to give his advice to each designer, but ended up criticizing the group for being less innovative. The designers scrambled to think of more creative techniques. Finally it was time for the runway show. Some of my favorite designs were Korto’s yellow dress with the lettuce and tomato trim, Daniel’s dress made of blue Solo cups, and Kelli’s winning outfit with a skirt made of bleached paper, a top made of two coffee filters, and a studded belt with gold pins. The four judges, Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia, and Austin Scarlett, had a lot of things to say about the losing outfits-and did not sugarcoat their opinions. With Blayne’s outfit, which I can’t even begin to describe, Michael Kors said the model looked like she had on a diaper. Austin said he wrote “hideous” on his judging card. Stella’s ugly trash bag outfit almost got her eliminated, but it was Jerry’s terrible shower curtain look that sent him home. I hardly knew what to make of Jerry’s design; the judges said his outfit looked like it belonged to the killer in a slasher movie. The yellow rubber kitchen gloves definitely put the icing on the cake to an awful outfit.
I’m looking forward to see what the rest of this season has in store! What did you think of this episode? Any predictions for the winner?

I'm glad to have this show back, too! I would have eliminated the trash bag lady because she didn't even try. She spent half the episode complaining about the trash bags and then finally just sewed a few of them together randomly. I could have done something more fashionable than that with a roll of trash bags and I can't sew. Jerry's outfit was scary, though. What did Nina say? Something like, "It is what you wear when you are going to kill someone." I'm glad Kelli won.
