Top Chef Finale
Last night’s Top Chef finale allowed the contestants to create a four course meal that showcases their cooking abilities. Three renowned chefs were brought in to be chosen as sous chefs for the finalists. Stephanie got first pick and chose Eric Ripert, Richard was second and chose Dan Barber, and lastly Lisa was paired with April Bloomfield by default. Richard’s menu went with a theme of taking a “journey” based on his own experiences. As usual, Lisa used Asian flavors in her dishes. Stephanie’s menu didn’t have a definite theme, yet she seemed to experiment the most out of her comfort zone.
As expected, host Tom Colicchio met with the chefs on Day 2 and introduced a little twist; their sous chefs would no longer be assisting them. The chefs predicted this setback and managed to complete their four course meals in time for serving. Lisa’s prawns with extra spicy sauce and homemade potato chips put her neck in neck with Stephanie’s red snapper dish for the first course. The second course went to Lisa for her coconut soup and dumpling. Stephanie’s lamb dish with pistachios and olives pleasantly surprises the judges and sweeps the competition for the third course. Richard manages to stand out in the fourth course with his banana scallop and bacon ice cream, yet Lisa’s rice pudding is voted the judges’ favorite. Finally, the stressful final challenge is over and the chefs gather to wait and hear who will win Top Chef. Leave it to Lisa to completely throw one of her competitors under the bus. She blatantly lets Richard know that his chance of winning is almost nonexistent; saying that the competition is strictly between her and Stephanie.
I have to admit, I got a little scared towards the end before Padma announced the winner. The judges seemed to like Lisa’s dishes, but thankfully Stephanie’s name was called. Stephanie definitely deserved to win; she remained consistent throughout the competition and is a likeable person…unlike some of the contestants. I’m looking forward to next week’s reunion episode; hopefully we won’t have to hear too much of Lisa’s complaining.

You have to admit, Lisa's complaining makes the show fun.

I was so happy for Stephanie. She was my favorite throughout the competition. I did feel awful for Richard, though. He had every right to take it so hard...like he said, to get so close to winning and lose is a pretty painful thing. But something tells me he'll survive just fine...if nothing else, he was impressing the hell out of those executive chefs with his liquid nitrogen ice cream. And as for Lisa, it was just nice to see her enjoying herself for once.

I'm glad Steph won. I feel bad that Richard dropped the ball. Lisa still sucks. She just is NOT a pleasant person.
