Hello, I Must Be Going ...

groucho-marx1.jpg
Thanks for the title, Groucho and thanks to you all!
I’d worked out a lot of fancy ways to say this and none of them are even near adequate. So, here goes: Come Monday, I’m no longer Community Manager here at TV Guide Online.

For now, I’ll be handing over the daily duties of the Join the Discussion homepage along with handling questions about the site to Lauren Washington. She’s a good person so take it easy on her.

I’ll definitely be looking in on the community here from time to time and though I’m leaving TV Guide, I’m not leaving the online realm. I’ll be working on community over at Everyday Health.com, a site which is about … well, health.

Two and a half years online is something like 14 dog years and I can honestly say that the people here at TV Guide are the tops. I’ve got nothing but good wishes for them and TV Guide in general.

And then there’s the heart of why any of us came to TV Guide in the first place: you. It’s been my pleasure to be your community manager.

Reading your blogs, messages, groups and watching the occasional video has been a pleasure and an honor. I’ve learned a lot about television; learned a few things about people, too.

I’m naming a few of you (and apologizing in advance to anyone I’ve left out), so forgive me while I try this.

Cindy (many thanks for all your help), Famin, the M&Ms (you’re a force of nature), Vickkie, Amber, Taz, Trish, Rick, Smileyteach, Frederic, Kath, Lynn, BewiXed, Mollymac, CindyRose, Metalligirl, Moschops, Panns and all the Supernatural fans who have been so great, Mr. Furley, and yes, even you Mr. Stone, have all been part of what I think of as a great community of users. The best online communities recognize that it’s not about winning an argument, but sharing a common, pleasant place and helping one another. You’ve especially shown that when someone’s had a hard time in their personal lives.

Finally, there’s Rev(RevVee). I know that somehow you’ll see this and you’ll want to hit me upside the head with a shoe. That makes me happy. I’ve never been “cracked by the LPP” but you always let me know when technical issues wore our your last nerve. Thanks for not giving up. And thanks for being so personally helpful to so many people here. You’ve made our online world a better place. I pray and expect you’ll get well if only to find me on the Web and give me a piece of your mind about this note.

And with that, I think it’s time to say, not goodbye, but until next time.

Thanks to all of you.

David

David, I wish you luck with your new job and hope the people there are even half as crazy as the people here so you don't fall asleep. We will certainly miss you around these blogs and I promise not to give Lauren too hard of a time... Well, not for an hour anyway!

Say it ain't so!

David, I can't even begin to tell you how bummed you have just made me! I hope the people at your new gig know how great, efficient, responsive and professional you are! (If they don't, just print this post as evidence!)

I'll extend my biggest welcome to Lauren Washington. Lauren? You've got some big shoes to fill, but don't worry- we'll go easy on you...at first! Hee.

I guess I'll just have to say to you both-

Hellochees

and Goodbye! sad*sniff*

Noooooooooooooooooooo! Somebody block the door!

Just kidding, David! I'm happy for you -- but you will be missed a lot around here!

You've helped me more times than I can remember. And you've always found very diplomatic ways to tell me that my post was removed because I was being rude! ;) :^O
You're endlessly polite, and always went out of your way to explain things and look into solutions to everyone's frustrations with the system.

Good luck, David!

Oh, David; for myself and for this community, I am so very sorry to hear this - you have been a calm and most felicitous influence, and you will be much missed. No offense to Lauren (welcome, Lauren!), but you will be a hard act to follow.

I wish you the best of luck and all happiness in your next endeavor, and I hope to see you occasionally posting something here. And I hope that I notice, since it probably won't be in my blog!

Fare very well, and fare forward, David.
