New York Giants Upset Patriots to Win Super Bowl XLII

Use our Online Video Guide to relive Manning's clutch 32-yard completion to David Tyree, as well as his game-winning TD toss to Plaxico Burress.

With big brother Peyton cheering him on, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning silenced his critics for good, engineering an improbable 17-14 upset win over the previously unbeaten New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. Manning completed 19 of 34 passes, for 255 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. And for the second-consecutive year a Manning brother was named MVP of the game, with Eli following up Peyton, who led the Colts to victory in '07.

The heavily favored Patriots suffered their first loss of the season, dropping to 18-1 and failing in their bid to became the first team since the 1972 Miami Dolphins to go undefeated. Rather than making history, the Pats will now have to settle for the next edition of Trivial Pursuit.

The game didn’t get off to a promising start for either team. New England led 7-3 after the first half, a sloppy, sluggish defensive struggle that saw five sacks (three for Tom Brady, two for Manning). At halftime, Fox studio analyst Terry Bradshaw wondered, “Where is the big play coming from? We have not seen it yet.”

Well, we saw plenty of them in the fourth quarter, when the lead changed three times. The Patriots looked to have it wrapped up with 2:42 left to play, when Brady and Randy Moss connected on a 6-yard touchdown, going ahead 14-10. But then Manning orchestrated a scrappy 12-play, 83-yard drive that finished with a 13-yard pass to Plaxico Burress.

What do you think: Is this the greatest upset in Super Bowl history?

GIANTS!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHhH!!! !I AM SO PROUD!!!! Biggest, Best Upset EVER! They were the better team tonight and they absolutely deserved to win. I am so glad that I don't have to hear anything about a Boston Sports Dynasty this year EVER. AGAIN!

First and foremost, congrats the the NY Giants and their fans. This was a well deserved and awesome march from a wild card berth to the big show.

The best and first Super Bowl upset ever was the NY Jets vs. the Baltimore Colts. Joe Namath guaranteed an upset of the older Johnny Unitas team and then delivered.

My other favorite upsets were the two Super Bowls my home team Redskins won. Coach Gibbs always got plenty of respect for his talents, but the Redskins were the Rodney Dangerfield of the NFL.

I rooted for the Giants by default. I am constitutionally unable to root for any team from Boston but I have been pretty vocal in my low opinion of Eli Manning especially as compared to his brother. But I must give Eil his props. He kept his cool and he and his team did the job and made for a pretty dramatic and interesting Super Bowl. Congrats.

GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 :)

What an unbelieveable game. Eli came up big and that was the greatest performance by a defense in the Super Bowl ever.

Go Giants!!! B-)

YAY!! for the Giants! Great to see a Manning win two years in a row! Next year it should be both of them in the Superbowl...that would be amazing.

If possible, please post the video of the pregame recital of the Declaration of Independence by the NFL notables.
Thanks

LOL, apparently you don't follow basketball. The Boston Celtics are having a helluva run this season and have had the best record in the NBA for most of it (41W, 9L, 82%)! The only team anywhere close to that win percentage are the Detriot Pistons with 75%.
