Staying Alive: Jorja Fox in Talks with CSI

070503jorja.jpg
Jorja Fox and William Petersen by Ron P. Jaffe/CBS
Jorja has a raise on her mind. The star of CSI staged a one-day walkout from the set during the shoot of the CBS show's season finale, which airs May 17. The actress is in talks with producers about a new contract to keep her on the show, sources familiar with the discussions tell TV Guide. How those talks go may decide the result of the cliff-hanging finale in which Fox's character, Sara Sidle, is struck by an automobile. At one point the story had Sidle dying, but it was rewritten to be more ambiguous and Fox returned to work. Neither the network or a spokesperson for Fox would comment.

Fox had a salary dispute with the show in 2004, when she and costar George Eads demanded raises before they would show up for the start of production. They were both promptly fired and then reached an agreement to return to work. But Fox's character has become more prominent in the series over the last year. Sidle's relationship with Gil Grissom (William Petersen) has given the series its first serious romantic story line. — Reporting by Stephen Battaglio

I, for one, would be absolutely thrilled if she left the show. She's the only character I haven't cared for since day one.

And, if she goes, it would finally put an end to that absurdly unbelievable romance between Sara and Grissom and I would go back to watching the show.

I'm not a regular CSI watcher, so it doesn't really bother me, but this is kind of spoilery for just a "News Report" and not something in Ausiello's section - I mean, it gives away the season's cliffhanger ending. Maybe post a spoiler warning for the people who care.

Who is the "insider source" for this article, a disgruntled PA? The cliffhanger spoilers were leaked on the web weeks before shooting for the episode even began. Even if the initial script called for her death and Fox had walked-out because of that, that would have had to occur over a month ago to have any effect, not during the shooting for the finale as this article claims.

This is nothing but a poor spit-shine of the rumors published in Page Six. I expect more (not much more, but still) of TV Guide.

And ibuprotein, I wouldn't worry about these spoilers, because they're wrong. Close, I guess, but certainly no cigar.

Prominent does not mean popular. Two people, carrying on an elicit affair they know is wrong, compromising the integrity of the lab while preaching to others the importance of propriety? Please. Sara has never been a favorite of mine. Why wasn't she fired this time for failing to show for work? Just hire the girl who played her double in "Butterflied" and get on with the show!

I wish just for once, that a "reputable" source such as TV Guide, would do a little research before posting something about Ms. Fox's firing in 2004. According to Variety, she was fired in 2004 several days before she was to show up for work on the new season for not returning a document indicating that she was going to work while negotiations were ongoing. She signed the paper and it was returned by mail, not fax. It was a misunderstanding, not a holdout for more money. Furthermore, she was NOT the only cast member seeking to renegotiate.

I would hate to see Ms. Fox leave CSI. Along with William Petersen, she is my favorite character and is vital to the show. As Mr. Petersen and Gary Dourdan have previously said, she is their lucky talisman. She's been on two other hit shows, ER and The West Wing. But on CSI, she truly shines.

Her character brings a warmth to the cases that she works that is not there with others. She is very caring, compassionate and empathetic towards the victim(s). The recent episode, Empty Eyes, showed what Ms. Fox can do…act without being over-the-top.

The romance between Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle is such a beautiful story. They have had a real chemistry since she first appeared in the second episode of Season 1. Those two can say more with just a look than pages of dialogue. The way their romance has played out over this last season has been great…just little snippets into their personal lives and how much they care about one another.

YTDAW posted parts of the script, the original ending was a cliffhanger. And while it said nothing about Sara dying, that was the impression you could walk away with. Kinda a glass half full/empty thing.

Unless you were there sequanna, you don't know if she showed or not. You don't know if she demanded another ending. You don't even know if this is just another greedy actor thinking the milk the cash cow for all it's worth. Guess only time will tell.

SuiSidal is such a pain in the arse - I would love to see her gone for good!

I hope that the producers and Ms. Fox are able to come to an agreement. I've enjoyed her portrayal, and I have especially enjoyed the Grissom and Sara romance. Never has a couple done so much with so little screen time. Amazing actors both of them, and I'd hate to see it end like this. Story repercussions resulting in a heart-broken Grissom would not be pretty to watch and I don't know that I could stomach it.

You're right, and nor did I claim to know that information. I merely pointed out that the content of this article is obviously incorrect. By your own admission, the cliffhanger was revealed long before the finale was shot. Therefore, there's no way Fox walked off the set during the finale until they wrote a cliffhanger for her (which already existed on paper weeks before), as this article states.

Oh...you forgot Black-tie Affair and the CSI Guide as other places that posted the exact same spoilers for the season finale. It's not exactly fair to leave out that part of the story, and I'm sure the person above had the best of intentions and just wanted to set the record straight but accidentally forgot some places.

I can't believe how riled up people get about the character Sara. She is a fictional character people, Chill out.

I happen to love all the characters on the show and would hate to see any of
them killed off, particularly SARA. After 7 years they have become my fictional family. I think the show would be crazy to kill off Sara, this after so many of us have waited for her and Grissom to get together, only to have their relationship destroyed.

I think the show will suffer next year, as a result if Sara dies. The character Grissom will become a miserable, self-loathing, depressed individual. I get enough of that while watching House. It's not like Grissom is just going to show back up to work in season 8, loving life, doing his job, and maybe even get himself a new girlfriend people, how unrealistic is that? Jorja Fox is a beautiful, and talented actress and is an asset to the show. CSI will not be the same without her. I hope this is all just some extra PR to stir up interest and add drama to the season finale, I kind of think it is...

Well, I for one would love nothing more than seeing Fox gone. I've never liked the actress or the character AND the whole thing with Grissom is beyond gross (I mean, he's a father figure to her! Talk about EW!). However, I'm not holding my breath. Sounds to me like CBS or the studio behind the show is merely trying to get more people to watch. Not that I blame them though, since that awful, AWFUL, stupid, asinine show on ABC's been such a huge pain in the ass for them...

Add me to the list of those hoping Jorja's done with the show. For her sake, she's got other irons in the fire to pursue (theater production, music).

For the show's sake, the Grissom-Sara romance has been a huge mistake. They have no chemistry, episodes have been rejigged to have "that GSR moment" per week, taking away from the story at hand and the other characters.

It's also been a mistake for the Sara character. She used to be defined by her skill and ability. Now she's "Grissom's girlfriend" both within the story and to the fans. She has no definition of her own.

It's time to write Sara off the show. The fans of GSR got their wish for a year.

Time to give the show back to the science, the cases and the other characters for its remaining days. Maybe we'll get to see more than 30 seconds of Gary Dourdan per episode once she's gone.
