Sherri Shepherd Signed On to The View in August

Comic Sherri Shepherd has been chosen to fill Star Jones Reynolds' long-vacant fifth seat on The View. Although the official announcement will have to wait until Sept. 10, the deal was made back in August, TV Guide has learned exclusively.

The View producers were hoping to stay mum about Shepherd’s status for a couple of weeks to keep the hoopla focused on Whoopi Goldberg's signing on as moderator. But an anonymous source leaked the news early.

Shepherd, who has guest-hosted on the ABC chatfest over a dozen times, campaigned hard for the job. "I’ve been telling them I’m available," she told TV Guide in June. "If you want me, I’m available." Apparently, what Sherri wants, Sherri gets. — Reporting by Ileane Rudolph

Best news I've heard since Whoopi got the moderator position! These two women have guest co-hosted together once and it just seemed like a great fit. Rosie Who????

What a greeeeeeat news, I was wishing so much that she would be the one instead of that kathy G. I still wouldn't watch untill that other women (Elizabeth) get the hell out and I mean out of good. I hope she'll stay home taking care of her darm children. When it comes to Wpee, I use to like her years ago now she's not even funny anymore and after she defended that dog killer I won't see that show for as long as she's there. I WANT ROSIE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHE ROCKS!

I have loved Sherri Shepherd in everything I have seen her in - I think she is a hoot and will be a refreshing addition to "The View", and now that the huge-mouthed, annoying Rosie is gone, I will actually be able to watch it again.

Actually, as someone who is politically neutral, I was able to look objectively at the Rosie/Elisabeth fight and it was Rosie who acted with zero class and started and ended that fight.

I hardly ever watch "The View" but the show should have multiple voices. It needs to offer both political point of views and by adding Whoopi and Sherri Shephard, they will also offer a more wide ranging racial perspective.

It's good for the health of the show to offer 5 strong willed and different ladies who can argue, but do it with some level of class (unlike Rosie). Whoopi brings the same political perspective as Rosie, but she handles it so differently and with so much more class.

Plus, by offering multiple racial and political perspectives, "The View" now truly has the ability to appeal evenly to all Americans.
