Exclusive: Val Kilmer Set to Guest-star on Numbers

It's the perfect equation for success. Val Kilmer is reuniting with Top Gun director Tony Scott for the Season 4 premiere of Numbers, airing Sept. 28. "It’s a double whammy!" says series star David Krumholtz. "We've had a lot of great actors on the show, but Val takes the cake. We've got to thank Tony for bringing him in." And Kilmer, who also worked with Scott on True Romance and Déjà Vu, is no stranger to mathematical plotlines. "Val played the original math and science genius in Real Genius,” reminds Krumholtz. "That was shot at Cal Tech, which is where we shoot our show. Val is revisiting his old roots as an actor.”

Though Krumholtz doesn’t have any scenes with Kilmer, he’s psyched to have the star onboard. “He’s one of the most provocative actors,” he says. “It proves our show is a cut above the rest to attract actors like him. Hopefully this will get more eyes on our show.” And that means bigger numbers. — Reporting by N.F. Mendoza

This hiring is just wrong. I haven't watched hardly any episodes of this show, but this casting coup is not right. Val Kilmer cannot act. Why do you think he was only allowed to do one "Batman" movie? Give me a movie (in "Top Gun" he was and played an a$$hole) or TV show that he was marvelous in and maybe I will reconsider my position. Luckily, he will only be a guest star, but for how many episodes. One will suffice for me.

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and The Salton Sea, two movies where Val is great as an actor.

For starters The Missing, Heat, The Doors.....Just because he's supposed to be a giant turd in real life doesn't mean the guy cant act.

Only someone completely ignorant of the body of Kilmer's works would say he wasn't a terrific actor. I'm puzzled as to why he would step onto the small screen - Kilmer tends to gravitate toward Independant and non-commercial films, but maybe he did it as a favor to Tony Scott. Whatever the reason, I'm definitely tuning in for the "Numb3rs" S4 premier!

I'll also add "Thunderheart" and "At First Sight" to his already listed triumphs. Oh, and if anyone hasn't seen Kilmer in "Tombstone," you're totally missing out on one of the best cinematic treats. He was robbed of a Best Supprting Actor nod for that portrayal of Doc Holliday. Quite simply, he stole the show!

Don't forget "Ghost in the Darkness". That was a great movie.

I agree that Val Kilmer has turned in some great movie performances (many of you cite some of his more notable movies). However, I think he's been struggling for a while now. I hate to say it, but some of his more recent movie choices haven't been so great (see "Mindhunters") and he's looking puffy and unhealthy (see above picture). I think he may be having a career/personal low or something...

Val Kilmer might be a total jerk, but that does not mean that he's not a really good actor. I can't think of a role he played that I did not like. (heh I still rewatch The Saint every so often.) I do think it's a coup. Maybe he's doing T. Scott a favor?

He's a good actor but his last projects haven't exactly set the world on fire. This is probably just a way to get exposure and a guaranteed pay check. It may seem like a step down but there are movie actors who go to tv when they can't find or have good options filmwise.

Yeah, Yeah, that's great. What I want to know is if Dylan Bruno is coming back to Numbers.

Dylan Bruno is coming back to Numbers. That was said pretty much immediately after the season finale and was addressed at one of the TCA panels as well.

Val Kilmer is a very good actor and will bring viewers to Numbers that have not tuned in to the show previously. I think it's great that he's going to be in the 4th season premier. As for him stepping "down to the small screen", I would like to say that he's not the first film actor that has guest starred on TV shows. Elizabeth Taylor was even on General Hospital and Robert Wagner starred on two series as well as appeared in films. So TV shows shown not be viewed as a "step down" for any actor. Acting is acting in any form and the work isn't easy like most people think. That's why they get the big bucks.
