Exclusive! New Buffy Comic Keeps the Faith
Buffy art by by Georges Jeanty, copyright 20th Century Fox; Brian K. Vaughan (inset)
Faith is back! The former rogue Slayer makes her return in the sixth issue of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 comic book, on sale Sept. 5. And she'll be in the capable hands of fan-favorite writer Brian K. Vaughan.
A few years ago, series creator Joss Whedon tapped Vaughan — best known for Ex Machina and Y: The Last Man — to write a direct-to-DVD movie featuring Buffy's onetime nemesis, played by Eliza Dushku. After that fell through, Whedon asked Vaughan, now a coproducer on Lost, to revive his idea for a four-issue arc of the Dark Horse Comics series.
"I've always felt that Buffy would translate really well to the comic-book medium," says Vaughan, whose story imagines "that some of the girls around the world who now have Slayer powers aren't necessarily good. So when it comes to who will slay a Slayer, Giles turns to Faith. She's the person to go for, as she says, ‘dirty deeds, done cheap.'" Click here for a close-up look at a page from Faith's story.
Vaughan's arc also advances the storyline of Twilight, the evil force amassing against Buffy. And here's more news for fanboys and girls: Another Lost producer, Drew Goddard, who wrote for the Buffy and Angel TV series, will pen Issues 12–15 of the comic. "When we're not talking Lost, we get to talk Buffy," says Vaughan. "It's a dream job." — Reporting by Ileane Rudolph

No mention of Vaughn's Runaways series? It's like a spiritual cousin of Buffy. He has an excellent voice and will do great things for the Faith issues.

This is great news!!! I have to say, anyone who is a Buffy fan and is not reading this comic, you have to get it!!! This series is great and really feels like you are reading a continuation of the TV series - it truly is "Season 8" of Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

I asked the people at tfaw how many there would be this is what they said:
Right now, there are a minimum of 18 issues planned. Of course, this number could increase.

They are on the 4th printing of the 1st issue. I think that's pretty amazing. I hope more people keep finding it. I'm guessing that if some buffy fans aren't online all the time or aren't into comic books, then they know nothing about season 8, which is kinda sad for them.

Interesting. These guys have beaucoup time to write for buffy comix, but they can only come up with 12 new LOST episodes a year.

Since no one else will say it,I'll just do it: LET THIS FRANCHISE DIE ALREADY!!!! Buffy, along with Angel, were losing steam their last couple of season in and it was time to put them to rest.Wheadon is just milking a dead horse with the comic book(which is kinda "meh",to begin with)
Enough of the Buffy kiss-ass fawn fest, please.

They're going to produce 16 episodes, not 12, of Lost each season for 3 more years. The new plan means we will get about the same number of episodes overall. But since there clearly have been more than a few filler episodes each season, this will allow them to amp the quality overall. And since when is writing 4 episodes of a comic book anywhere near the challenge of writing a single television episode.

The only thing that needs to die is your post. This is the most useless kind of commentary on the internet today. With 4 reprints of the first issue so far, there clearly is a demand. Both producer and consumer are satisfied, and the only thing out of place is YOUR dissatisfaction. If you don't like it, don't buy it or read it. Ignore it and it will trouble you no more.
Sheesh!

That drawing doesn't look at all like Eliza. One of my biggest complaints on the comic book format (aside from the lack of depth of story/character compared to TV/novels) is that most comic artists do a very poor job of drawing women. Same thing in the Heroes online comic last season - most of the male characters were at least recognizable but the female characters didn't look anything like the actresses who portray them.
It's my secret hope that Joss will one day write a novel on Angel Season 6 and not another comic book.

Don't actors/actresses have to approve of their likeness being used in graphic novels? Perhaps certain actors don't give permission, which leads the artists to have to fudge a little bit.
But then again, after reading the original Buffy comics (which were merely non-canon side stories), different artists definitely were more adept than others at capturing likenesses (sometimes Angel and Xander were virtually indistinguishable).
