Exclusive: Disney Plans to Rock the HSM Crowd Again
Jonas Brothers by Kevin Parry/WireImage.com
Production has begun in Toronto on the next big movie musical, Disney's Camp Rock, slated to debut in summer 2008 as part of the blockbuster Disney Channel Original Movie machine. Camp Rock stars popular Hollywood Records recording artists/Radio Disney faves the Jonas Brothers (aka Joe, Kevin and Nick Jonas), who recently guest-starred in a record-breaking episode of Hannah Montana.
Written by Julie Brown (Earth Girls Are Easy), Paul Brown, Regina Hicks, and Karen Gist (of Disney Channel's Jump In!), Camp Rock tells the story of Mitchie Lopez, a teenager who dreams of spending her summer enrolled at a prestigious camp for aspiring musicians. Alas, her family can't afford it, so she takes a job in the camp kitchen just to be close to the action. When she's overheard singing — but not seen — by teen pop star and camp guest Shane Gray (Joe Jonas), he is completely taken with her and sets out to find the girl behind the beautiful voice.
Emmy winner and Academy Award nominee Matthew Diamond (Desperate Housewives, Men in Trees) will direct, while Alan Sacks (Disney Channel's award-winning The Color of Friendship) will serve as executive producer. — Reporting by Nerina Rammairone

Sounds like a mixed up mashed up Cinderella meets the Little Mermaid story. Should be Disney gold!

Didn't we see this coming? Disney has been bit by the musical bug. God, just wait, 15 years from now the only thing on Disney will be musicals, and in another 5 years after that they'll change their name to The Preteen Music Channel. First Cheetah Girls, then HSM, now this? My God, what is the world coming to. Most of the peoples who watch this (remember that I said MOST) are four year olds that don't even know what's happening, but when the music starts they all get up and dance. Thank God they don't understand. The writing isn't original at all. Seriously, how many times has TV used the time trick, as shown on HSM. "Oh, lets put the call backs, the game, and the Scholastic Decatholon at the same time on the same day!" Seen it done a hundred times. And the "you're becoming someone else," and later the "walk out of the crowd singing towards you, I've forgiven you" move on HSM2. Seriously people. If this movie had no singing or dancing and was instead called High School Sweethearts, it would be Disney's worst. And another thing that sucks about these movies. The only relationship they care about is Troy's and Gabriella's. Seriously, I don't mean to sound like some avid TV show watcher (which I am, I watch more TV shows than TV movies, can't you tell by my name?) but their are other peoples and their special friends that I would much rather see, like Sharpay and Zeke, and Kelsey and that cute dude she's with. It's called HSM, not Troy and Gabriella, writers, you don't have to focus just on them. I don't like them as a couple on the show anyways. Seriously, how can the girl (who annoys me soooo much) laugh at a stupid "if the jackrabbits don't turn us in" joke? I know some of you will object to my opinion, but I just have to get it out there. As for this new movie, well, Disney is pusing it.

WOW! cs:nylover you do understand that most kids age 9-14 (the target audience for those movies and the ones who do watch them... I have an 11 yr old and 13 yr old) haven't seen every movie ever made and to them this is new. Seriously, there isn't much in the way of original, new, never been seen out there anyway. And you do realize Vanessa laughing at the jackrabbit line... was acting and doing as directed by the director, that wasn't really her. And the first HSM was mostly about Troy & Gabriella. And remember, you don't have to watch them, and if you have kids and hate them that much then you are free to exercise something called parental control... or have them watch them when you aren't around.

hooray! I'm so glad the Jonas Brothers are becoming more popular. I remember back in 2005, I got to hang out with them after the concert because no one was there to meet them. But now, you cant even get in to meet them!
I'm surprised Joseph is playing the lead, and not Nicholas. Since Nick is an awesome actor (he starred in many Broadway plays when he was younger)

The "Danny and Sandy" movie was a great big hit musical back in the day csilover. The movie was about them and they had perriferal friends all around them that added to the story, it was a musical set in a high school with the key players set in there clicks (jocks=bikers brainics=biker babes {pink ladies}) and trying to break out of their norm and expanding there horizons and growing as people. Oh that's right, the "Danny and Sandy" movie had a different name. GREASE. Movies are rarely named for the stars. Deal with it.
