In an effort to reinvent itself to reach a wider audience, Court TV is getting a new name: truTV. The rebranded network will launch on Jan. 1 and will feature a new look, a new logo and an expanded lineup of original programming. — Reporting by Marissa Klein

What a stupid name.

How pointless. Oh well, as long as I can still watch endless hours of Forensic Files I'm okay with it.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I hope they don't get rid of the good programming. Nothing beats Forensic Files, The Investigators and Body of Evidence. They could definitely retire Cops, though.

I'm with the rest of you. I'm crossing my fingers that they don't ditch their re-enactment type shows like Forensic Files and North Mission Road in favor of their reality programs. I avoid Cops, Most Shocking, etc. like the plague. I can watch Forensic Files literally for hours. I also loved the new 'Til Death Do Us Part just because John Waters is such a hoot! I hope they bring it back next year.

I'm sure they'd dump all this re-configuration and re-branding in a flash, if there were ever another "trial of the century" where the judge permitted gavel-to-gavel coverage.
But it's been 10 yrs now, and so far, nothing. Maybe a private equity firm will buy them out and work some of the old Steven Brill (CourtTV's founder) magic.

The channel will never be as good as it was when Brill owned it. Under his stewardship, Court TV aired live trials during the day and repeated them overnight. Here and there was a Forensic File kind of show. The anchors were sharper then, too, and much less biased. Two of ABC's Nightline anchors got their start on Court TV. This new name -- 'tru' as in 'truth,' I guess --reeks of desperation.

I really like Psychic Detectives too. Don't like Haunting Evidence, though.

I hope that the "expanded lineup of original programming" doesn't mean more fictional junk like that program with John Waters about married couples killing their spouses. That was God awful. His presence was the only redeeming factor of the show.
I hope they realize their core audience is true crime junkies who enjoy Forensic Files, North Mission Road, LA Forensics and the like.

I see another CW network launch here. What, do these networks think that when they bomb at one thing, that they can come back with the same old stuff, but with a different name??? Heck, I'm still looking for the country-western music on CW; people will think "Tru Calling" has a new network now.

Sounds like bad news to me. When established networks revamp their names, they generally revamp the programing too. They then get away from the very programs that their core veiwers are watching. Thats what happened with A&E. The programs I watched were gone and the trash reality came on. It went from class to trash, and I don't care how popular some of the trash is, I don't watch it. I do hope they keep Forensic Files, Psychic Detectives, North Mission Road, Body of Evidence, and yes even Cops. But, Please, Please, Please get rid of the junk like Speeders, Beach Patrol, Video Justice, Most Shocking and things such as that. Most of them are just being recut and offered as new shows all the time when I have seen the same clips over and over.

For those who haven't discovered just how poorly Court TV provides truth and accuracy checks before airing shows like 'Psychic Detectives' you may wish to check the site www.amindformurder.com It showcases how their key psychic detective (11 shows plus) recently was discovered to have created a fantasy in testimony before a jury and before millions of TV viewers. The same psychic also lost a 2-year old lawsuit in April 2007 before a U.S. federal court brought by a skeptic writer --- but only continued silence at Court TV. After reading this behind-the-scenes story you may think Fantasy TV is more appropriate than truTV.

who cares what they call themselves as long as they continue with the programs they have. I too love watching Forensic Files and all those shows. So hopefully they won't change their current programming, just add even more.
