Carpoolers' Jerry O'Connell Enjoying the Ride So Far

Despite mostly weak reviews, ABC's Carpoolers and its equally critically maligned lead-in show Cavemen managed a solid second place in their respective debuts against CBS' NCIS last week. Considering both shows' lack of good buzz, they each did well in the Nielsens, averaging roughly nine million total viewers. Carpoolers (Tuesdays, 8:30 pm/ET) actually exceeded the network's internal expectations for young and male-skewing demos by about 15 percent.

"We maybe didn’t garner as much attention as some other shows out there [before the premiere]," says Carpoolers star Jerry O'Connell, who plays one of four guys who share their ride to work. "Half-hour comedies have to be given a chance, you know? We started off pretty well, so hopefully we can even build on it."

A guest appearance next month by O'Connell's new, real-life bride, Ugly Betty's Rebecca Romijn, in which she'll play his character's ex-wife, couldn't hurt either. "We had some scenes where we had to be physical with each other," says O'Connell, who guest-starred on Ugly Betty last season. "And it was so much fun doing them with your wife because your tongue goes places that you’d never do with [another] actress. If I had done to an actress what I did to Rebecca on the show, I would be in court right now!" —Reporting by Danny Spiegel

I never had much bad to say about Rebecca Romijn. She's pretty attractive and personable enough on talk shows. I even liked her short-lived Pepper Dennis a little. It wasn't until I saw her god-awful performance in the god-awful Femme Fatale that she began to bug me. I mean, with two Starbuck's to a block in every town from Maine to California how does anyone pronounce it "EX-presso"? And what kind of director let's such a thing slip from the lips of a character who's supposed to be a sophisticated European beauty?

Although it was'nt Romijn but her character's storyline that turned me off of Ugly Betty she's not an actor whose work I seek out.

On the other hand, I had a mostly benign opinion of Jerry O'Connell. Even though he starred in the vomitous (literally) Joe's Apartment he was never particularly offensive-certainly not in the same category as is unctuous talent-free brother. But just about everything I have heard from J.O's mouth in print or on talk shows has done little to deter me from the conclusion that he is a a first-class dope and a borderline jerk. His small amount of talent just isn't enough anymore to make up for the way his personality turns me off.

In another post I mentioned how a likeable cast can cause me to stick with a show through an initial few bad episodes. The example was Journeyman which seems to be getting into its stride with the latest episode. Well the presence of an unlikeable star (depending how much weight of the show he or she carries) can keep me miles away. That's why you will probably never catch my eyeballs anywhere near Carpoolers.

I actually tried to watch Cavemen and Carpooler's and sad to say, but in my opinion, both shows really suck.

I gave Carpoolers a chance and for a 30 minute comedy, I liked it. I'm not gonna give up on it yet.

There is NO WAY having Rebecca guest on her husband's lame-ass show will get me to watch "Carpoolers." I don't either of them singly or as a couple and it made me throw up a little in my mouth to read him discuss their kissing scenes - yuck! yuck! yuck! shudder - shudder - shudder!

On "Ugly Betty," she is a very weak actress compared to the multitude of talent among the rest of the wonderful, stellar cast and her story lines both last year with her reappearance in the Meade family and this year with her amnesia - ehhh, don't care for her stories.

I posted somewhere else that I would rather have Santos back for Hilda and Justin and would be just as happy to have Alexis/Ålex to have been the fatality from the season finale.

For those of us out there that are or have "carpooled" the show is funny and I will watch it when I get a chance, however, I like NCIS & Bones, but I can only tape 2 shows at a time and one of them must be watched at time of taping.

Boy is there egg all over my face. I just watched the premiere episode of Carpoolers online and have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. Have to admit that Jerry O was pretty good in it too.

It's too bad Carpoolers is stuck with the unimaginative and unfunny Cavemen as a lead in. Might make a great pairing with Samantha Who.
