Buzz About The View's Replacements
Gayle King by Stephen Lovekin/WireImage.com
Don’t place your bets on a guy replacement when Barbara Walters and her colleagues on The View announce who will take the spots vacated by Rosie and — at long last — Star Jones Reynolds. Despite the presence of Joy Behar’s buddy Mario Cantone in the mix, TV Guide hears that his guest-hosting is more of a fun stunt than a tryout. When the winners are revealed, probably between July 9 and Aug. 2, we predict the show stays ladies only. As Elisabeth Hasselbeck told TV Guide, “Women feel safe with women. It’s just comforting.” Fans should keep their eyes on three candidates who have cohosted numerous times: Gayle King, who won raves for her Meredith Vieira-style moderating last week, Whoopi Goldberg and fellow funny lady Sherri Shepherd, who are cohosting July 9 and 13. “There could be two African-American hosts, which would be great,” says a source close to the show. King has one big plus going for her: She would probably bring some of her BFF Oprah’s fans to The View. — Reporting by Ileane Rudolph

I vote for Sherri Shepherd!
My second choice would be Gayle King. Unless we can have both Sherri and Gayle because they're very different and I picked up on a tension between them which could be good for on-screen drama later on down the road.
I vote nay on Whoopi Goldberg, as much as I love the Whoopster.
Just my opinion!

I second Daniel's opinion. I actually want both Sherri & Gayle. It's nice when there are 5 - not so empty on Barbara's days off. Gayle would be a great moderator and Sherri would be more comic relief. Joy needs a comic partner!
I love Whoppi, but I don't know how she would fit. I'd still watch if she got it though!

Oh no , please say it isn't so. What a bore Gayle King was last week. There was a reason her one time talk show was cancelled..it sucked. She wants to be Oprah but she's not. Where is Kathy Griffin in the choices??????? she would be great!!!. and she loves to drive BW crazy which is fun to watch. And Sherri Shepperd is crazy, I thought she was ok, but not lately..the stupid show is now off my tivo anyway ever since Rosie is gone. Yes that is correct I'm a ROSIE lover she is smart and funny and a great host. And made the show worth viewing. ha ha

I actually thought Whoopi was the best of the lot. I wouldn't mind any of the three plus I'd throw Kathy Griffin in the mix too - she's co-hosted numerous times also.

I think Gayle King is very smart and would be great as a co-host for the view. So would Sherri. any one would be better than Miss know-it-all Rosie, Who wanted the View to be about her only.

I thought I'd stop watching the show when Rosie left, but the "auditions" of the potential new cohosts has kept me watching.
Still, one thing is certain. If Sherri Shepherd ends up being a regular, my days of watching will be done for good. One half-wit who doesn't believe in evolution is enough. I don't need to watch two of them everyday.
But in the end, it's win-win for me, because if Shepherd gets the gig, I get an extra hour to do something else.

I would vote for Gayle King and Kathy Griffin. I used to think Sherri was funny until she said she did not believe in evolution (the look on Barbara Walters' face was priceless). And she was not joking.

Whoopi and Kathy or Gale AND Sherri.
Whoopi was a great moderator, Gale was a great moderator - but neither one of them is funny enough alone. I miss the black sass of Star ... Sherri has that. And the even temperedness of Meridith ... Gale has that.

Okay, first of all, I can't believe I have enough time on my hands to sit here and leave a post about "The View". But I do have to admit that, as much as I despise Rosie O'Donnell, she did get me to start TiVo-ing the show on a regular basis. And now that she is gone, I am enjoying the "auditions" and the wait to see who will be named the successors.
I really hope that Gayle and Sherri will be named the new co-hosts. Gayle did an amazing job last week of bringing calmness to an otherwise shrill show. And as a self-professed "news junkie", she has the knowledge to interject her thoughts on a variety of subjects. As for Sherri, I don't find her as hilarious as most people, but I think she is very cute and another conservative on the show would be a good balance. And I think the contrast of the professional Gayle with the unpolished Sherri would make for good TV. Please, ABC, bring Gayle and Sherri onboard!

Get rid of Elisabeth...(you would think TV Guide would spell her name correctly) I enjoy Sherri Shepherd.. If they have to keep Elisabeth, Gayle King would put her in her place.. I hated the thought of Rosie coming last year...BUT I didn't miss a day...she brought it all there..Elis, the war lover, was out of place-let her husband sign up-see how she feels then.

I have been saying Sherri Shepherd is perfect....I like Whoopi, but she seemed overly cautious in everything she said...I would still watch if she were to join....not sure how I feel about Gayle King....

I'd go with Whoopi. She's smart and opinionated, but not incendiary.

Whoopi has a brain, doesn't blast off on subjects she knows nothing about and is quietly impressive.
Gayle King probably won't take the gig -- is my guess
Sherri is ...err blah to me, sorry.
Rosie is ..... the Anne Coulter of the left-wing if you ask me. Give her a game show that features broadway -- I might watch it. Give her a mic to spout her ill-informed and poorly researched opinions? I wouldn't watch it for the world

Well I guess it's good that Mario Cantone did not get the gig because his phone sex scandal would just be coming out the week after he started on the View. Him faking to be a gal to get phone sex with America's Hot Musician straight guy judge Gregory Charles Royal would be the subject of some cruel jokes!
