According to Jim: It's Good to Be Back
Jim Belushi by Bob D'Amico/ABC
Getting revived feels good. Very good. ABC’s According to Jim has been officially renewed.
“I’m really grateful,” star Jim Belushi tells TV Guide. “I love the show, I love the cast, and ABC and Touchstone have been really great.”
ABC was clearly on the fence regarding the family comedy, which went from 10 million viewers in its first season in 2001 to 6.6 million last season. But the official word is in: It has been picked up for 18 episodes to air mid-season.
Belushi wouldn’t go into details, but he says, “We’ve been negotiating for a while,” conceding that, “most of it has to do with licensing fees, the amount of episodes.”
Although ABC didn’t include According to Jim on its fall schedule when it made its May presentation to advertisers, Belushi says, “I always had hope. I always believed it would work out. We have a really strong following, and with syndication, it’s increased the awareness of the show, it’s solid. Our show has always been a solid performer, especially in today’s television market, with all the competition. We actually do OK against American Idol, the one juggernaut of the decade.”
Belushi says that while they don’t know their time slot yet, they’re already discussing “story lines, arcs and directors.”
And he’s very pleased: “I got a nice life right now.” — Reporting by N.F.Mendoza

Rude: I for one was really hoping this silly show would be gone and something good would take it place.
Courteous: I for one was really hoping this show would be gone and something else would take its place.
Cinm: You are entitled to your own opinion. But to be rude to others in stating your opinion shows poor online etiquette. Would you make this statement to a someone you know who watches the show and enjoys it? Probably not. Then why behave differently online?
My congratulations go out to the cast and crew - and to the many fans of According to Jim - on its renewal.

Well, sounds like everyone is in a snit about something. We can all agree to disagree about the renewal of According to Jim. I for one enjoy sitcoms that are silly, nonsensical, overly tidy, etc. It takes away the nasty taste left in my mouth after reading an online news report about two 16 year olds boys beating a 17 year old girl to death and leaving her body in the desert, just because they didn't like her. Today is June 29; let's hope the tomorrow's news is not so vulgar.

I think its WONDERFUL that "According to Jim" has been renewed!
It is one of the few funny and wholesome comedies left!
ABC would be so much better if they would keep the comedies and ditch shows like "Bachelor".

I'm also glad ATJ was renewed. I'm beyond bored and disgusted by what networks believe to be what I want to see (reality tv). I could care less about American Idol, don't care if America has Talent, or who is the Next Big Thing... Jim Belushi makes me laugh and I'd much rather do that than cringe at another loudmouth D-List celebrity trying to squeeze another 15 minutes out of my life.

Guillermolbarra, I guess I'm just tired of people describing shows they don't like with words like "stupid," "silly," "insipid," etc.
As I stated - express your opinion. But have courtesy and respect for other viewers' feelings.
BTW - my undies aren't in a bunch. And in case you're wondering - I've only seen this show in passing. But clearly its renewal is meaningful for many people, and to call the show names needlessly is disrespectful.

I haven't see ATJ, but I agree with the "freak for life", in that, reality shows are not reality. Why? Reality is not that exciting. All the trials that come up on reality shows like "Survivor" & "Big Brother" are "created" by the producers. American Idol is like a game show only the viewers pick the winners, not the contestants (they don't pick themselves either, game show contestants play against each other and that is all). Give me "CSI", or "Bones", or "House", or anyshow like them, where you can learn something. We all know life being a CSI investigator, a forensic investigator, or a chief medical officer isn't quite like that, but what happens in their cases is somewhat educational.

cdorsko1 - I'm not much on reality TV, either, though many people seem to enjoy them.
After a long day at work, I just want to relax and be entertained. I enjoy many genres!

For me I love how A2J doesn't really preach to anyone about anything. It is a great sitcom with actor's who enjoy what they do and the delivery of the jokes. I for one am glad that this made it through.

The only critical comment i have about ATJ is sometimes the over the top adult content and i guess the family viewing hour went out the window. Some of the recent reruns have very 'adult content', sex toys was a perfect example.....not a child in sight in this one, thankfully!!!!

Thank you, Tazzy! I don't like rude people, either. You can give your opinion without being rude and hateful. People just amaze me. If you don't like something on tv simply don't watch it! There are a lot of shows that seem to be very popular that I don't care for, but I keep my opinions to myself. Reality tv is constantly being attacked and I love "Survivor" and "Big Brother" but you don't see me on her bad mouthing shows or the people who enjoy them. I feel better now. Thanks! P.S. I don't watch AJ very often, but when I do I find it amusing and entertaining. I like Jim Belushi.

I think it's great that "According to Jim" has been renewed- a great comedy show. I don't like the reality shows- their all the same- people complaining, gossiping and of course fighting. I much rather have the comedy.

Thank you so much for renewing "According to Jim"! ! ! We love the show and would be lost without it! It was a "SAD" day when we couldn't find it in the guide and thought it was canceled! When will the new episodes begin? Thank you .... thank you .... thank you!
