24's Kiefer Sutherland Is "Very Proud" of Last Season
Kiefer Sutherland in 24 by Kelsey McNeal/Fox
Jack Bauer would probably have thought of an escape plan, but at the July 23 Fox All-Star party in Santa Monica, reporters literally cornered Kiefer Sutherland to get his thoughts on this past season of 24 and why Africa didn’t pan out for the coming "day."
"I felt that [Season 6] was no different than any other season," said Sutherland. "Every season we've had our strengths and every season we’ve confronted some bumps and hiccups. I felt that last year, the first four episodes were probably the best four we had ever done, and we certainly closed the show really well. We hit some rough roads around Episodes 13 and 14 [but] it's a difficult show to write so we’re accustomed to running into things that we don’t agree on, but by virtue of the schedule, we have to plow ahead. But I was very proud of our last season."
Despite scrapping their initial plan to shoot part of the coming season in Africa, that plotline has not been entirely abandoned. "We will maintain the Africa story line, but I think it was very difficult to shoot a television show on two, potentially three continents. They found a better way to tell the story from this country’s perspective."
As the first scripts of the new season were written off, Sutherland and the rest of the cast found themselves on an extended hiatus, which according to him is nothing unusual. "We start over three or four times every year," he points out. "And we do two more shows than most shows, so it’s been a grind. It feels like a seven-year job. It never goes away." — Reporting by Carita Rizzo

I was/as a big fan of the show and after the first two eps, I was pretty much done with the show, caught bits and pieces but it never held my interest, I hope next season is better.

I just watched a movie that had never heard of that Keifer was in called "Desert Saints". It was a very good movie and reminded me why I love Jack Bauer-it's because I love Keifer Sutherland! I think people were too nitpicky last season. The one storyline that I feel fell flat was the the return of Agent Pierce and the First Lady. We never really got any closure on that. I enjoyed the rest of the season immensely. Sometimes I think people just watch these shows so they can pick them apart. I watch for the entertainment value. It is unlikely that these things will happen to the average citizen in real life!

I am very proud of Kiefer Sutherland for standing by his show. I, too, thought that the sixth season of 24 was no different from any of the other seasons. The past season was just as fantastic as the previous seasons and the acting was incredible, as always. Kiefer Sutherland deserves an award for his fabulous portrayal of Jack Bauer. The acting he did was amazing - you could see the pain in his eyes after he returned from China, you could hear the emotion in his voice when he was giving his speech about preparing to die, and his goodbye speech to Audrey brought me to tears.

Season Six was the first time I watched 24 and I thought it was one of the best shows on the air. I loved it so much that I've been working my way through the other seasons since and on Saturday I finished with season five.
Honestly I think Season Six was very much on par with seasons one-four. Season Five was incredible. In my opinion it was far above and beyond the other four which I think is why season six was a disappointment to so many. Since I watched it first, I thought it was great but I can well understand why, coming off of season five, people would have been disappointed by season six.

No. Season six was an absolute mess. It dropped a lot of stories completely (Charles and Martha Logan; what happened in Denver to Ricky Schroeder's character; any real fallout from a nuclear bomb exploding in L.A., etc.). It repeated storylines fans felt they'd seen a million times before (L.A. gets a bomb threat AGAIN; CTU gets invaded AGAIN; Jack goes "rogue" AGAIN (and AGAIN)). It had sloppy, ridiculous and inconsistent logic that made the previous seasons by comparison look like a well-researched scientific study with footnotes (Russia attacks the U.S. because it's mad at China; Jack's Dad tries to kill Josh, then, a few episodes later, his motivation is he wants to save Josh and take him to China, etc.) It wasted characters fans actually might give a damn about (Again, the Logans, Agent Pierce, the "brain-dead" Audrey) and instead gave us bland and poorly conceived characters like Milo and Ricky Schroeder's Agent Whatever-His-Name-Was.
And Kiefer Sutherland probably likes last season because he wasn't IN it as much. Instead, we had some episodes where Jack felt like a secondary character and we spent way too much time with Chloe and Morris, the improbable President Wayne Palmer, and the deadly dull shennanigans at the White House).
Of course, other than all of the things listed above, it was a GREAT season. LOL. Sorry, folks, I love 24, but season six was just a lazy wreck, not at all up to the standards of previous seasons of the show.
The good news is that next season already sounds like their on the right track: Cherry Jones is a brillant choice for the President. If you're unfamiliar with her work, she's amazing.

I loved season six and Kiefer's performance was extraordinary, as usual. I enjoyed it as much as any other season.

Oh, BobbyJoe, you are my hero You so perfectly described the TRAIN WRECK that was last season. I am so amused by these comments from loyal "fans" who are now, after rightfully trashing the show all year, developing amnesia. A true 24 fan will not forget...only b/c we KNOW the show is capable of being so much better. LOVE Kiefer, LOVE 24, and I will watch next season, of course, but I am expecting MUCH improvement. Cherry Jones is a fantastic start!!!

In my opinion "24" is one of the best shows ever and there is not another actor out there that could play Jack Bauer as well as Kiefer Sutherland. The man was born to play this character because he makes it so believable. So what if Season 6 had a few "hics". I'll take the "hiccups" over "burps" anyday! I am counting the days(do I hear the clock ticking?) til Season 7 starts in January. Keep up the great work, Kiefer, You are the man!
