Zac Efron Brings Home the Bacon in Footloose Redo

Let's hear it for the boy! Paramount is developing a full-blown musical remake of 1984's Footloose, with High School Musical cutie Zac Efron picking up where Kevin Bacon's be-bopping, Walkman-toting Ren left off. HSM helmer Kenny Ortega is in talks to both choreograph and direct the redo.

The original Footloose, for those so young you sicken me, concerned a rebellious newcomer's arrival in a small town that has banned dancing. (And no, it's not where Ashlee Simpson lives.)

Is this going to be a film version of the stage musical Footloose from a few years back...ala The Producers and Hairspray?

Damn you, Matt! Now I have "Let's Hear It For the Boy" stuck in my head! BTW, I believe I have a VINYL copy of the Footloose movie soundtrack (we didn't own a CD player in 1984).

Why can't Hollywood leave 80 classic movies alone. It was not that good the first time around, why do they want to put us through it again!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't get me wrong, I loved Kevin Bacon in it, but the rest of the cast sucked.

I forgot to mention that Lori Singer, who costarred in the original... well, she just may be managing the concession stand at the theater showing this when it comes to your area.
