HBO Season Premieres Delayed Until Fall

Fans of HBO's usual slate of summer staples will have to wait until the fall for new episodes. As a result of the writers' strike, the fifth season of Entourage, along with original episodes of Big Love, Flight of the Conchords, and its new vampire series, True Blood, will not premiere until the fall.

HBO will fill the summer slots with movies and plans to move up the premiere of Generation Kill, a limited series based on the Iraq War. — J.R. Whalen

This is a downer... but not as big of a downer as the cancellation of the TV Guide Talk podcast. (I'm still in denial!)

On the plus side, new viewers to these shows now have all summer to catch up on them via OnDemand or NetFlix (or other means) to get ready for the new seasons in the fall.

As a recent convert to HBO and Showtime series, I highly recommend Entourage, Conchords, and Big Love.

I completely agree... :( Now I have time to catch up on Big love, though - and I never would've thought about watching the show if there was no podcast and the amazing crew that kept talking about it saying how amazing it is... Ugh, it sucks!

I got rid of (Canada's version of) HBO after The Sopranos ended, and the only thing I was going to miss was Entourage. Now I'm sitting back and raking in all that extra money and grinning. :)

I'm not actually a fan of those three shows, so I'm relatively pleased that I'll be getting Generation Kill sooner.

What about "In Treatment"? Is it over forever"

What is going on with HBO? Ever since Sex and the City and the Sopranos left, they have been lazy. Terrible decisions and even worse shows. John from Cincinatti had me bored with the previews. And now you're hold off your summer shows until fall. Well good luck. Pick it up HBO! You used to be a front runner, now you just seem to do what you want when you want to. Do something original again!

nchokie211, I hardly think HBO can be blamed for the writers strike. All of the networks are holding off shows for the fall, too.

Oh, that's disappointing. I was looking forward to watching "True Blood" this summer. Ah well- it'll still be there in the fall.

I second the notion that HBO has made some dumb decisions.

-They allowed The Sopranos to end in a terrible way giving fans an empty feeling.

Before you attack me for saying a network should infuse itself into the writing aspect, think of some of your favorite shows. Had Carrie not gotten with Big, would you still have liked the ending? Had Ross not been with Rachael, would you have liked the Friends ending?

HBO needed its flagship show to really end.

-Second they cancelled Deadwood for John from Cincy. Deadwood was actually better than the Sopranos last couple of seasons. It was brash and shocking.

-Third, HBO promised Deadwood movies, but they won't come now.

The white elephant in the room that's not being mentioned is that HBO did cause this problem themselves -- by cancelling Linda Bloodworth-Thomason's "12 Miles of Bad Road" which already had 6 of its 10 ordered episodes in the can before the writer's strike hit, and which was supposed to premiere in the summer.

Had HBO not axed it, they would have certainly been able to finish production in time to air all 10 episodes and not have a huge gap in their programming. Smooth move, HBO. Surely it couldn't have been worse than "Tell Me You Love Me" after all.
