In the Works: Regis' Password Is a Go, and More
"Aristophanes!" CBS is teaming with Idol producer FremantleMedia North America on Million Dollar Password, a "pumped-up" (read: swirling lights and annoying/overly theatrical music) remake of the classic game show, Variety reports. Regis Philbin will host; our copy editors will go mad over the hyphen-deficient title.... Fox is opening The Church of Reggie, a Ron Howard-produced comedy pilot about a man who starts a religion from his back porch.... Also per the Reporter, Lifetime is embracing more reality with Matt Titus: Matchmaker and It's My Party (aka My Super Sweet 16 for super-affluent adults).

Not much makes me gasp with surprise and delight anymore, but Regis' announcement today certainly did. While I'm a reality hater, too, Password has always been by favorite game show, and I think Reege is an inspired choice!
BTW, while Who Wants To be A Millionaire was on ABC and Live! With Regis and Kelly is produced by Disney, it is a syndicated show. In addition, he has hosted that horrible America's Got Talent for NBC and did an awful New Year's Eve special for Fox, so you can't really say he's exclusively tied to ABC.
Personally, I would accept the Million-Dollar Password better if it were on in the daytime, but I guess something that pricey is destined to displace some deserving scripted show in prime time. Oh well, as long as they have Betty White on at least once, I'll forgive them anything!
