William Shatner Is Nimoyed by Star Trek Film Dis

William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy in Star Trek courtesy CBS/Paramount Television Steam me up, Scotty! William Shatner is reportedly flipping his wig over Leonard Nimoy apparently being offered a cameo in J.J. Abrams' planned Star Trek feature film (a prequel to the TV series, by all accounts). The erstwhile Captain Kirk "is very upset," a source tells the New York Post. "[He] has been lobbying for a role [for himself]." Asked about the supposed dis, the Shat's rep tells the tab, "I don't know that to be the case, so I can't comment." OK, fine, break out the mind meld.... Leave a Comment

i wish there was no prequel, kirk just won't be kirk without shatner playing him. same for spock and everyone else. iw ish they would have made a DS9 movie instead.

My God.... who would he play???? Maybe it could be like Old Indy in the Young Indy TV Series looking back at his time early in his career... He and Spock would be out camping somewhere looking back.. Both actors couldn't do more than walk on anyway and it would make no sense...

How come people can accept other actors playing familiar roles ( think Obi-One) in some but not others...

I trust JJ to come up with a decent story... As these actors die off or retire, people gotta let em go... The only minor character from that ST Universe who seems to have established him or herself in a new role is George T as Hiro's dad...

Bill just wants a cameo - he doesn't need to play a named charactor. William Shatner is one of the coolest guys in Hollywood. I can only think of one guy that may be cooler: DENNY CRANE

NOT having Shatner and others in (at least) cameos seems very disrespectful to those who started it all. I, for one, will not be watching this movie if that is the case.

I'm surprised Nimoy is being offered this role, let alone that he would even take such an offer. Of all the old cast members from Star Trek, Nimoy has struck me as the one person who strongly distances himself from the franchise.

Shat should make an appearance in the movie entering some bar, hanging out with and getting his moves on with some green Orion woman! That would be respect.

I would be very surprised if Leonard Nimoy accepted the offer to be in the film. He is retired from acting. Plus he did decline when asked to appear or direct ST Generations (which was a wise move on his part. Wish Shatner had done the same). It seems to me he has defintely decided to put acting behind him. According to IMDB, his last acting job was on Ted Danson's sitcom "Becker" in 2001. He has limited his involvement in showbusiness to voice over work and hosted a special or two since then and appeared at the TVLAND Awards. I would think there would have to be some compelling reason for him to come out of retirement and accept. On William Shatner's web site on his Shatnervison video blog updating the latest on the ST film on June 9th he said that he so far "had not been invited to the party and was out of the loop" as far as any recent news on the film. He also said on a past video blog (early this year I think) that JJ Abrams had asked him to lunch. Basically, nothing concrete came of it. So, I seriously doubt that not being asked to be in the film is any surprise or that he is that upset that they have asked Leonard to be in it. Disappointed yes, really upset no. I think it's all behind the scenes politicing. It's one thing that they asked Leonard to be in it-it's another for him to accept and it become a reality. It's all in the planning stages and subject to change. All we know is that it's a prequel about Kirk and Spock at StarFleet Academy. Since Shatner and Nimoy profess to be close friends, I would guess possibly they have privately discussed somewhat their thoughts on participating in the film. Ultimately my gut feeling is that neither Shatner or Nimoy will be in it.

I don't see a problem with either of them doing a cameo. It's done all the time. But, I don't see the sense in having one and not the other. As a fan way back when there is no Star Trek without Kirk AND Spock.
