Whoopi Goldberg has been named the host of The 62nd Annual Tony Awards, scheduled for Sunday, June 15 (8 pm/ET, CBS).

This will be Goldberg's first stint at hosting the Tonys. She has hosted the Academy Awards ceremony four times.

The View moderator won a Tony Award herself in 2002 for her role in Thoroughly Modern Millie. She has also won a Grammy, an Oscar, an Emmy and a Golden Globe throughout her career. — J.R. Whalen

I lurve Broadway and the Tony Awards, but Whoopi as host? ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

And a little award note: Whoopi's Tony for ...Millie was as a producer for the production which won for Best Musical.

Whoopi says she's not going to be so much the host of the Tonys as she's going to be the "storyteller" or "narrator" of the show. She says it's all about Broadway and the Tonys, so I'm encouraged by that subtle shift in attutude.

Since she got her first big break on Broadway (with her Mike Nichols-produced one woman show...which was hilarious and poignant and--at the time--quite different), I think she's an appropriate choice.

Unfortunately, a lot of people are going to think, "there she goes filling Rosie's shoes again", when nothing could be further from the truth. (There's only one Rosie and one Whoopi.)
