Wesley Snipes Can't Jump Legal Hurdles

Two years after being indicted, Wesley Snipes was acquitted on Feb. 1 of federal tax fraud and conspiracy, but convicted on three misdemeanor counts of failing to file a tax return.

Snipes, along with two codefendants, was originally charged with six counts of failing to pay taxes from 1999-2004 — aka the same years in which he signed contracts for more than $10 million for Blade sequels. Despite his acquittal on three counts of fraud, he still faces those remaining misdemeanor convictions, which entail a possible three years in jail. If Snipes does have to serve time, however, he'll have to get used to standing up for himself without a vampire cape. — Anna Dimond

Typical, celebrity justice once again, it's crap and I hope he serves time.

Snipes got a jury to ignore the law and the facts -- his celebrity enabled him to get away with it. Shame on the jurors who convicted his co-conspirator, but let the celebrity get away with paying no taxes.

Just another example...if you're rich and famous you are above the law. Lesson learned once again.

Wesley Snipes' jury may have been "star struck" but the IRS is not. Those misdemeanors means he could still get a year's jail time....here's hoping........

If you're going to be cute and make a reference to a role, at least know what you're talking about..

The IRS should have pursued a civil remedy in the first place. Not only would they have recovered the back taxes plus interest, they would've been able to pursue punitive damages.

Lots of celebs wind up owing Uncle Sam without going to prison. They only chose to charge Snipes criminally because he got involved with some shady characters who are linked to the same folks responsible for the Oklahoma City bombing and Ruby Ridge.

They used a hammer to swat a fly and the jury recognized that. Of course, Snipes didn't do himself any favors trying to make it a racial issue. But it appears the jury had enough sense to see through that, too.
