« Today's News: Our Take
The WB Is Back, with Gilmore Girls and More!
Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel courtesy The CW
Two years after signing off the airwaves, the WB is returning with new programming — as well as some of its most memorable series — but not on TV. According to an article in the Hollywood Reporter, the Warner Bros. Television Group is reviving the network as a website, where viewers will be able to watch free streaming episodes of Gilmore Girls, What I Like About You and Everwood, as well as all other WB-produced shows. (The site's "working title," wb.com, currently jumps to a general Warner Bros. Studios roundup of movies, TV, DVDs, etc.)
The WB, which merged with UPN in 2006 to become the bastion of twentysomething programming that is the CW, aired a string of fan-favorite shows in its 10-year existence, including Dawson's Creek, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. It's not clear yet whether non-Warner Bros. shows will be available on the site, but new Web-minisodes are reportedly in the works, with series aimed at the WB's core audience.
Warner Bros. hasn't confirmed the details, but the Reporter's sources say that wb.com will have a preliminary launch next month and a "major rollout" in the fall. Whether or not anyone will be watching Jack & Bobby still remains a mystery.
What's your take? Which now-defunct WB series do you most hope ends up streaming on this new site? — Nina Hämmerling Smith

Me too, i've been dying to see jack & bobby again but on dvd so i can own a copy(i wish i was smart enough to record shows i no won't last because i never see them again). There were also a ton of other cancelled shows i'd love to see. I wish the networks were smart enough to release as many shows as they could atleast for downloading, its a way for them to make money, and they wouldn't have to shell out for a full dvd release. Please bring back more canceled shows that otherwise wont see the light of day.

My first thoughts were I wonder if they will have embedded commercials and thus benefit post-strike writers with their new agreement. Or will the WB play around with some loopholes? I don't know if any of this material has been online before; but if it has, does that count against the first 17-24 days of promotional "airings" that studios don't have to pay writers?

You guys are mean with the teaser. I mean my god! You made me think The WB and UPN were returning and The CW was signing off. The website could be cool, I guess. They should have it set up with pages for all the 'golden ages' shows. Like Felicity, Dawson's Creek, Charmed, Roswell. And lesser known shows that still rocked like Popular or Jack & Jill. I don't see that happening, but it would be neat.

Does this mean maybe we can get some Veronica Mars back since WB has the rights to it. It will be an awesome way to get the show out there.

I'm sorry, kardplayer2k. Now I feel bad for thinking/asking/expressing my thoughts about that.

kardplayer2k obviously knows nothing about a real writer's life, but wants someone to blame for having been inconvenienced in his TV watching. The vast majority of those writers don't go around driving BMWs and MY opinion is that they deserve every penny they get, considering the writing is the foundation of every single show that hits the tube. And I won't apologize for that.
I do wish the WB would come back to actual television, though. Their shows had much better quality than most of the CW's stuff, with a few shining exceptions like Supernatural.

And I won't apologize for that.
Yes, I agree with your sentiments, Katcon. I've worked in production for 16 years, and you are right about the majority of writers.
And, I'm not really sorry. Just hoping that kardplayer2k would feel bad for criticizing and asking me to restrict my reasonable thoughts on a television discussion board.
I didn't mean to take this tangent so far and won't continue. WB watchers, enjoy; and, writers, good wishes!
