Walters "Quite Happy" with Her Rosie-less View; O'Donnell Responds

While admitting, "It's very hard for anyone to follow Rosie," boss woman Barbara Walters says she is rather pleased with The View's performance since O'Donnell's famous walkout. "There are things we've been able to discuss that we weren't able to discuss with Rosie, like heterosexual sex," Walters told Wednesday's On-Air with Ryan Seacrest radio show. "We are perhaps not quite as political [or] vocal about [things], but the Hot Topics have been very fun, and the ratings are up, so we're quite happy. Obviously, the audience is very loyal."

As for replacing Rosie (or Star, for that matter) Walters said, "We're kind of taking our time," but confirmed that Whoopi Goldberg "is someone we're considering. Whoopi is wonderful."

On the topic of her unsolicited phone chat with Paris Hilton — Walters was on the horn with Kathy Hilton when Paris beeped in via call waiting, then asked her mom to put her on with the newswoman — Babs denies angling for the first sitdown with the jailed heiress: "I'm telling you the truth, I have not discussed with her doing an interview."

UPDATE: Asked to respond to Walters' comments, namely the bit about hetero sex, Rosie told a reader on her blog, "She is almost 80."

Ugh. I hate Barbara Walters. First of all that "heterosexual sex" comment is completely uncalled for.

Second, saying they're "not quite as political" is the understatement of the year. Since Rosie left there has been no mention of the Iraq war. Paris Hilton, meanwhile, has been the top story every day.

More importantly, Barbara's celebrity ass kissing has begun to put Star Jones to shame. If you're not even willing to give an honest opinion about the Hilton family for fear of upsetting the ladies you lunch with then maybe you shouldn't be on a show called "The View."

Okay, I have LONG been a BW admirer, but come on! She has been so obviously a Hilton family apologist the past few weeks, it HAS to be because she wants the first interview with the slut. How stupid does she think we are?

And what's this about not being able to talk about heterosexual sex with Rosie? Wha--??? I am hoping in my heart-of-hearts that that is some kind of misquote. Please, tell me it is!

Did Rosie ever launch into any long soliloquys about lesbian sex? As far as I can recall, there has never been any explicit talk of sex on The View. Sex has been a topic, sure, but it has always been in the generic term, the way music has been discussed. They never got into CD, cassette, 8-track or MP3 music...just music. Why on EARTH would she say something like "we weren't able to discuss...heterosexual sex...with Rosie"? That is--to go back a few years in my vernacular--wiggedy wack!

And what would Barbara know about heterosexual sex? From "dating" that scumbag Roy Cohn? She probably hasn't had sex since the Great Depression.

The View is still on? Hm, I just turn in to rosie.com or tvguide.com instead if I'm not at work.

I really hope the heterosexual sex and Paris Hilton topics keep the viewers coming to the View. Because, y'know, you can't find either of those two topics anywhere else.

Buh-bye.

I have turned The View on a couple of times since Rosie and was bored to death - one time with Whoopi. I recall occasional topics on sex in the Rosie past where they all chimed in, and it was just as much about straight sex as gay sex. That comment was really uncalled for, IMO.

I hate when Barbara hosts. She hardly let anyone talk about poor little Paris. I wanted to hear Joy and Elizabeths comments!

Thanks, Babs, for showing that, contrary to the opinion of some, it wasn't Rosie who was the one without any class.

I like BW, but I REALLY wish all the media would just stop with all the talk about the vapid blonde one. I'm almost to the point I'm going to stop eating french fries because of the unfortunate association with her.

So Barbara is 77, Joy is 66, Whoopi is 51 and Elisabeth just turned 30. Considering the target audience of TV, and considering the original concept of The View, there's a pretty big gap in there. It seems to me The View needs another voice in her 40s or 20s, hopefully someone who is a minority, since that is a serious concern. With all due respect to Whoopi (I have her original broadway soundtrack, which ranks right up there with Gilda Radner's broadway show), I think there has got to be a fresher voice out there. Whoopi, along with her Comic Relief pals, Robin and Billy, fall back on too many predictable comic cliches to make anything she has to say relevant to any discussions going on today.

Among black women, I have enjoyed Deborah Roberts and Renee Goldsberry, but no one has impressed me as much as Sherri Shepherd. If they aren't truly considering Sherri for the job, then they are REALLY out of touch! Above all else, they would be swiping her away from Ellen (a competitor in the daytime wars), who is clearly happy with the hilarity she can bring.

Boo Whoopi...YEAH, Sherri!

I'm not quite sure what it is that people like about Sherri Shepherd. I've thought she was completely bland and boring every single time she's hosted. I also lost all respect for her when she admitted that she'd taken back her cheating husband and was helping to raise his illegitimate child. She also said she doesn't believe in evolution and I don't think The View needs another ultraconservative on the panel.

Mother Babs has Rosie to thank for those increased ratings. Come fall, I'm sure Rosie's loyal fan base will start checking the guest co-hosts on another 11:00 show -- The Price is Right.

Whenever sex was brought up there was an ackward pause. And there use to be a couple of doctors on to discuss sexual organs.

1234567, I will refrain from discussing blandness with you, consider the name you have chosen, but just because Sherri has challenging religious beliefs shouldn't be a reason to exclude her from a show called "The View"! In fact, that connection she has with Elisabeth should make the conversations more interesting. Elisabeth and Sherri have similar religous beliefs, but one is liberal and the other conservative. What could be better!

I know a lot of people like to automatically reject people with whom they disagree, but the whole point of The View is to hear from people who CHALLENGE YOUR beliefs! That's what I look forward to hearing when I tune in everyday, anyway...

You are right about Sherri Shepard being a good choice TV Gord. I originally thought Whoopi was the best choice, but since you mentioned the age brackets, they do need someone at least in their 40's or younger to help get that perspective. I'd like to see a fourth woman as well. Will they ever get a fourth because I really got annoyed when they'd have a guest audience member fill in.

I've heard Kathy Griffin has no chance in the eyes of WaaWaa because she hates her. How is she guest hosting so much then?
