$VU $tars $ign New, Big-bucks Deals

Although NBC is mum on the financial particulars, Variety reports that Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni have signed on for two more years of Law & Order: SVU, inking deals that provide them each with $6.5 million-plus salaries, and in Hargitay's case, makes her (at the very least) one of network television's highest-paid actresses.

As L&O creator Dick Wolf says he is happy "that Chris and Mariska have decided to stay with a show that they’ve made an indelible stamp upon," Hargitay's 7-month-old son, August, issued his own statement saying he is happy to now use $100 bills for baby wipes.

I haven't been watching SVU lately, but Mariska and Chris make the show what it is, so this is great news for all involved.

There's a Law & Order SVU ? I thought NBC is supposed to be a poor network. Wasn't that the reason they will run nothing but game shows in their 8pm blocks? Where the hell did they came up with the money for them two worthless actors. Law and Order is a finished franchise. No body watches any of the three L&O but people who are 60 years old and older. May be it is time for Vincent D'Onofrio & Kathryn Erbe to have a pay raise because those two have more talents then all of the people on SVU combines. What about Sam Waterson? that dude stayed through three D.A. changes for over a decade now. He should be making one million dollars an episodes for sticking around. I'm sorry but getting just 10 millions viewers is not the justification of giving those two actors pay raises. Beside that Mariska Hargitay is getting fat anyway. And no body wants to see a bald man like Christopher Meloni on tv. Why can't NBC just replace them. Good thing I don't watches Law and Order SVU to care that much.

The person here who claims to care the least about SVU managed to comment the most on this news story. In journalism school, we called that "irony." :^O

Dude...chill with the personal insults. They are both extremely talented actors, and SVU is the best of the franchise. Personally, I'm estatic.

ETA: :^O Matt, too funny.

I am very under 60 and I watch SVU and L&O.

Mariska and Chris are both good looking. And even with her pregnancy weight, Mariska was beautiful.

Have any of you seen Mariska and August's milk print ad? She looks gorgeous!

I'm very happy they have new contracts. SVU wouldn't be the same without them.

SVU wouldn't be SVU without Olivia and Elliot. Thank You NBC for making the right choice. As for the person who said no one under 60 watches this show, I am a college student who has a bunch of people in my room every Tuesday night for Law and Order: SVU.

Why the hate?

Frankly - if you don't watch the show - we don't much care what you think!

And I'm with Leah - now let's get a renewal for Veronica Mars!

Ah, the beauty of the internet. Every small-minded goofball's brain (including my own!) on display for all the world to see. Maybe his/her screen name is really Scorned1(TimeTooMany)? Must be nice to look in the mirror and see absolute perfection.
