Veronica Mars Boss in Love with Cupid Again

ABC has pacted with Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas to develop a new version of Cupid, Thomas' short-lived yet well-liked 1998-99 series about a man who believes he was sent to Earth by Zeus to assist romantically challenged couples. "For the last couple years, I've been talking to ABC about how to do an anthological romantic comedy à la Cupid or Love Boat," Thomas tells Variety. "We kept coming back to Cupid as the best of the group, so they said, 'Why not... do Cupid again?'"

Thomas will now pen an all-new pilot, but stresses, "I'm not going to reinvent it. What they're buying is the show." That said, Jeremy Piven's titular role will, of course, be recast.

Weird, I was just thinking about Cupid - and the lack of something in its genre today - a couple days ago. I didn't even realize it was a Rob Thomas creation! I remember really enjoying it back in the day, w/ Piven and Paula Marshall.

Cupid without Jeremy Piven and Paula Marshall? I don't think so. They were the selling point of a show with weak scripts (sorry Rob, loved VM).

Well, at least it's not the CW. But cupid without JP? That may be a hard one to cast.

Well, it worked when CBS tried to bring back Grapevine a few years after it originally failed.

Wait, no it didn't.

I'm new to the show (past 2 months) thanks to torrent downloads and it can't be duplicated. He perfectly cast those two! The best since Moonlighting. Plus Piven is one of the only people I can think of who can make you like even if you think he is nutty

Ugh. Is common sense outlawed these days? Is there some sort of force field around Hollywood that precludes common sense for fear of death? Honestly even a 5 year old could do this basic math. If you had a series that bombed to begin with 1 the likely hood of it being better the second time around with people that aren't even as good + 1 is nonexistant. =2

Someone in show business should tattoo this to their arse and make a living out of just mooning networks exes that need reminding.

I loved Cupid, but without Piven, why bother?

If we're gonna bring any show back, can it please be Quantum Leap, Buffy, or at least something I can remember?

Cupid, but not Firefly? Hollywood is in some place not in my universe.

Jeremey Piven would obviously be the first choice. But I could totally see Tom Cavanaugh being a decent cupid. It's obviously a different direction from JP.

I loved Cupid. And I'm happy about this in a lot of ways -- just not sure they can ever find anyone else as perfect for the role as Piven.
